Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 71 Wrong?
Ling Xuan pulled the boy to the hall connecting to the control room.
"Where are you from? Who brought you to camp?" Ling Xuan asked, her eyes studying him.
The boy sighed. "I’m one of Boss Enzo’s men. And I came here because our boss, who is the owner of the base, asked us to." His eyes were slightly turning arrogant.
"And you are still standing?"
The boy was taken aback by her sudden question. What was that supposed to mean?
"What do you mean?" He asked, his brows twitching slightly.
"You don’t know the identity of your Boss?" Ling Xuan shook her head. "She is standing before you."
The boy’s eyes widened. He had heard that their new boss was a badass, and he admitted that her aura was overbearing...
Enzo had sent him to their Boss as her little attendant. But he didn’t show him what she looked like.
"Boss?" The boy drawled pointing at Ling Xuan.
A faint smirk formed on Ling Xuan’s lips. He was one of her men, and he made her do the respiratory task.
"Boss." The boy quickly lowered his head. "Gabriel is ready to serve you." He added.
"You think this will save you?" She asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"Boss, I’ll take whatever punishment you deem fit." He said with enthusiasm.
Ling Xuan nodded. "Sure." She said, turning her back to him. "Nobody must know about what happened earlier." Her voice turned colder.
Gabriel’s eyes widened slightly. "Yes, Boss." He said, even though he could not understand why she wanted to keep it a secret. Weren’t they lovers?
"You are dismissed." She waved her finger in the air dismissively.
Gabriel blinked in confusion. "Dismissed? But Enzo said I should follow you around and make sure to protect you." He sounded a little unsure.
Ling Xuan sighed slightly. It seemed Enzo was desperate to keep an eye on her.
"Is that so?" She asked in a low voice, sending goosebumps over Gabriel’s skin.
He rubbed his arms. "Yes, boss."
"You are dismissed for now, come find me tomorrow." She said, already walking away.
Ling Xuan headed back to the control room, but Chris was no longer there. She stopped midway, as the thought of Laurel flickered through her mind.
"Laurel." She called again inwardly, her brows drawing together when Laurel still didn’t answer.
For a brief moment, Ling Xuan wondered if something had gone wrong inside the space. It was unlike Laurel to remain silent for this long.
Just as she was about to try again, "Ling Xuan," Laurel’s soft voice finally echoed back, sounding slightly distant.
Ling Xuan exhaled quietly, though her face remained unchanged. "You chose a very inconvenient time to disappear."
"I was meditating," Laurel replied, confusion lacing her tone. "Why do you sound upset? Did something happen?"
Ling Xuan glanced once in the direction Chris was lying on a couple of minutes ago before answering flatly, "Your patient nearly died."
"What!"
"I’ll let you borrow my time, you need to check on him." Ling Xuan said not bothering to fill her in on what had happened.
Laurel changed with her immediately.
The cold sharpness lingering in Laurel’s eyes melted away, replaced by a gentler gaze that was filled with worry.
"I should have told you the meditation room cuts off our connection before entering inside," Laurel said quickly.
"You should have," Ling Xuan replied in her head.
"Is he alright? Do you know what the problem was?" Laurel cracked with worry and guilt.
If she could search Ling Xuan’s memories when she was in control earlier, Laurel would have easily gotten her answers.
"I don’t know if he is alright, but he had difficulty breathing." Ling Xuan, her voice nonchalant.
Laurel hurried outside the control room however, the rain was pouring heavily and the temperature had risen again.
’Difficulty breathing?’ It was more serious than she had thought.
She grabbed a heat protective suit which was kept in the changing room for the guards’ protection.
After she had fully secured it around herself, she immediately ran outside, searching for the location he was taken to.
The fortress had three major sections. The engineering sections which were overseen by Alexander, as that was his area of expertise. The agricultural sector, it was the biggest in the fortress, and no one was in charge of it yet as it was different from Laurel’s farmland.
The Security sectors. Chris was the head of it as he was in charge of the safety of the people and the defense of the fortress. And Enzo was the second in command, but worked for Ling Xuan.
And the last was the medical sector. There were not many people in this field, but Laurel hoped they would find enough people to take up various responsibilities in the fortress.
The people currently in the fortress were the Wayne family, the Lennox family, Enzo’s men, and a few of the workers who helped with the building.
Nate also brought in his family. And Nate was the captain of the guards stationed in the towers.
Although not all the constructions were finished yet, Laurel could only rely on the people inside the fortress to finish them.
And... Chris, his role was too important, and she couldn’t let anything happen to him. Moreover, he was her friend and patient.
Guilt gnawed deep in her chest. After asking questions, she finally found the place he was being treated.
Laurel quickly took the suit and the helmet off the moment she entered the building.
She rushed inside the room where he was admitted. Her steps faltered the moment her eyes fell on him.
"How is he?" Laurel asked the doctor who was treating him.
"I’ve been able to stabilize his condition, but that is all I can do. I really don’t know much about his condition, but I can see that he doesn’t have much time left... I’m sorry." The man said, lowering his head slightly in sadness.
Laurel knew his condition perfectly, and she was not going to let him die.
She nodded her head before moving to sit at the edge of the bed he was lying in. She took his hand and gently placed her hand on his wrist.
Her eyes widened slightly. ’How could it become this bad?’ According to her analysis, she was supposed to be able to prolong his life for a span of one more year.
But now, everything was chaotic... ’Where did I go wrong?’ Her brows knitted together, no matter how much she tried to find one, she couldn’t.
