Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 66 Jealousy in the Air
Laurel drove past the gate of the inner wall, arriving in front of a small house close to the mansion, which was still under construction.
Laurel and Chris stepped out of the tractor, running to shelter.
The moment they got to the porch of the house, they realized a brooding figure was standing at the entrance door.
Alexander’s fierce eyes shot daggers at Chris, who was standing next to Laurel.
They appeared too close for a patient and doctor relationship. And though Laurel always denied there was something between them, he couldn’t remove the image of Chris lying on the bed half naked in the same room as Laurel from his head.
He glanced at Laurel, who was squeezing the water out of her hair, then returned to glare at Chris. He hated his pretty face. He believed he was using his face as his ultimate card to play nice, because who in the business world doesn’t know how ruthless Chris Lennox was?
When people nicknamed Chris as Scarlet beauty, he believed they were wrong, the nickname should have been Scarlet poison.
Cold and lethal was Chris’s nature, and he didn’t want him near his wife.
Alexander walked past Chris, and he stood a few inches from Laurel. "Where have you been?" He asked, his tone bitter and possessive.
Laurel was stunned by his tone, but didn’t think too much about it. "I went to check on something important."
"Something important?" Alexander drawled, his chest swelling in bitterness. He glanced at Chris who casually placed his hands in his pocket.
"Yes," Laurel replied, not paying attention to him. She didn’t realize his face was even darker than the storm outside.
Alexander snapped his head back to Chris, their eyes sizing each other up.
Just then, Ling Xuan’s voice echoed in head. "My turn."
"Can’t we do it when we are alone?" Laurel asked inwardly.
"No, time is gold." Ling Xuan replied curtly, not leaving a space for any more arguments.
"Fine," Laurel murmured.
The two men were too busy checking themselves out to notice Laurel who suddenly went still, her expression slowly changed to a colder one.
Ling Xuan slowly rotated her arms, and she glanced over her shoulders staring at the two men.
She seized them up and down, before turning to head inside the house. However, her step faltered when Chris called her.
"Laurel... you promised to treat me today," Chris said, walking to her side.
"Did I?" Ling Xuan arched her brows.
"Yes, you did," Chris replied.
Alexander’s face darkened more, doesn’t that mean they were going to be alone?
"I’ll help you, Laurel," Alexander said, opening the door for them to walk through.
Chris’s eyes darkened slightly. "You don’t have to Mr. Wayne. My illness is not something you can help with, and besides I don’t feel comfortable with strangers around."
"Strangers?" Alexander squinted his eyes slightly. "Wasn’t my wife a stranger to you when she first treated you?"
Chris didn’t want to waste any words on him. "She is a doctor."
"And from today, I’ll be her assistant," Alexander replied without batting an eye.
Ling Xuan glanced at them. ’What had Laurel gotten herself into while I was napping?’
First things first, her healing knowledge was -100, so she definitely can not treat him, except that he was willing to join his ancestors a little sooner.
"Mr. Lennox..."
"It’s Chris. I thought we both agreed on that?" Chris cut in, correcting Ling Xuan.
"Ling Xuan play along, don’t make them suspect a thing." Laurel’s voice echoed in her head.
Ling Xuan’s eyes narrowed. She had no time for such details and drama, all she wanted to confirm was whether her army was prepared.
"Chris," She said, but her voice came out curtly. "I won’t be able to treat you today. Come back tomorrow." She said, attempting to leave.
"I told you now wasn’t the right time!" Laurel’s voice was laced with frustration.
Ling Xuan cleared her throat. "Chris, I’ll treat you later, but right now you should change your clothes. Come find me when you are done."
Chris studied her face, something felt different. The Laurel that stood before him now carried a strong aura, and coldness he had never seen before on her.
First was the strange equipment that could drain water from the soil, and now she suddenly felt like a different person.
’Interesting.’ He thought inwardly.
"Alright, I’ll see you soon."
Chris turned around and headed to the building next to the house.
Ling Xuan’s gaze lingered on Chris’s retreating form.
Alexander stared at her, his hand tightening into a fist.
"You never mentioned that he would be coming," Alexander said, he sounded like he was hurt.
Ling Xuan turned to look at him, her expression calm, and indifferent.
"Do I need to report the people I bring in to you?" she asked plainly.
Alexander was taken aback by her tone. It was sharp... unfamiliar yet familiar because he had noticed it before.
"Laurel," he said slowly, studying her face, "that is not what I meant."
Ling Xuan held his gaze. "Then what did you mean?"
For a moment, Alexander had no answer. The woman standing in front of him looked like Laurel, yet something about her presence felt distant, colder, and harder to approach.
He exhaled quietly. "I just don’t like seeing him with you."
"Why?" Ling Xuan replied.
Alexander’s jaw tightened. "You are my wife."
Ling Xuan almost laughed, but she held it back. Instead, she tilted her head slightly as if trying to understand something complicated.
"Mr. Wayne," she began calmly, "right now people are fighting for survival outside these walls. Crops are failing, the weather is unpredictable, and the city is slowly collapsing. If all you can focus on is who stands beside me, then you are worrying about the wrong thing."
Alexander fell silent for a second before studying her carefully, a strange feeling creeping into his chest.
"...Did something happen?" he finally asked.
Ling Xuan raised a brow. "Should something have happened?"
"You feel different," he admitted. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
For a split second, Laurel grew worried, when she heard those words. But Ling Xuan remained perfectly composed.
"Maybe you are only seeing what you never noticed before," she said.
Alexander searched her eyes, but found nothing he could hold onto.
Just then, a low rumble rolled across the sky.
