Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 61 Departure
Just as Laurel had predicted, the rain turned to a drizzle at noon.
Laurel carried nothing as she already had everything in her space.
Alexander had flown the children and Grandma Wayne by helicopter to the Ville Valley to make sure the kids were safe in case an unforeseen threat arose.
Laurel glanced down from the stairs at the remaining Wayne family. It was Vera, Jade, Felicia, Grandpa Wayne, and Alexander.
A subtle crease formed between her brows. Vera was dressed in a fashionable gown as if she were going to a red carpet event. Her hairdo was extravagant, and her makeover was a little too much for just moving location.
Jade stood next to Vera, and Laurel seemed to notice a crack in their friendship.
She wondered if it was the argument she had heard earlier.
Felicia glanced at Laurel with a condescending look, and she quickly glanced away as if she were an eyesore.
Alexander walked closer to Laurel. "You didn’t carry any of your stuff?" He asked, his gaze softening.
"You don’t have to worry about it, Mr. Wayne. I’ve already handled it." Laurel replied, walking past him.
"Now that she is here, can we get going?" Jade asked, walking towards the center of the room.
Alexander nodded. "Sure."
The maids carried their bags and luggage towards the field at the back of the Wayne mansion.
The rain drizzled, making a faint pit-pat sound. The high temperature of the rain had lowered.
Some of the maids and guards held the umbrella above their heads, ensuring that they didn’t get wet.
Vera walked like she owned the world, she wore sunglasses to finish the look.
"It’s not like it’s sunny. The sky is even cloudy." Jade snickered behind her back.
Laurel walked behind Alexander who was walking beside Grandpa Wayne. They both seemed to be having a serious conversation.
"Son, I didn’t question you because I believe you won’t make any wrong choices and put the whole family in jeopardy." Grandpa Wayne said, his voice hoarse and stern.
"I know Grandpa, and trust me, what I do, I only do it for the Waynes’ best interest," Alexander said in a serious tone.
Grandpa Wayne nodded his head. "In case it doesn’t go as planned, this old man still has enough money to sustain the Wayne family for a few generations."
Alexander nodded. As expected of a business tycoon, of course he wouldn’t hand over all the business wealth to Alexander, just because he was competent.
He had stacked enough, just in case there was a situation for plan B.
Grandpa Wayne walked ahead with his hands clasped behind his back, his pace was slow but steady despite his age.
Laurel followed quietly, her eyes lifting toward the grey sky.
Before long, they reached the open field behind the mansion where the helicopters waited. Its blades spun loudly, cutting through the damp air and sending strong gusts of wind across the clearing.
The wind it generated sent Vera’s carefully styled hair into chaos.
"Be careful!" she snapped, trying to cover her face while holding down her dress.
Jade let out a small scoff. "Maybe you should have dressed casually instead of looking like you’re heading to a party."
Vera shot her an annoyed look but kept quiet.
The maids moved quickly, loading suitcase after suitcase into the helicopter. Several of them looked uneasy, their eyes flicking nervously toward the sky as if the rain might suddenly turn heavy and hot again.
Felicia clicked her tongue. "Why did we even pack this much? It’s not like we’re leaving forever... right?"
No one responded. Because somewhere deep down, they all already knew the truth.
Alexander glanced toward the field where four helicopters were already running, their blades slicing through the damp air.
"I arranged extras," he said calmly. "So we don’t have to come back again."
Laurel gave a small nod. That was expected of him. "The maids and the guards can take one, and we can take one, the others for the luggage and the remaining people."
"That will work," Alexander replied.
Just then, one of the pilots hurried toward them, his expression tight.
"Mr. Wayne, we need to leave soon," he yelled. "Air pressure is changing faster than predicted. If the temperature rises again, flying may become dangerous."
"Start boarding," Alexander yelled.
The Waynes entered the helicopter one after the other.
The moment Laurel stepped inside, the loud roar of the blades became muffled, replaced by a tense silence. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Grandpa Wayne sat near the window, his expression unreadable as he looked down at the mansion.
Right in the middle, Vera immediately complained about the lack of space and carefully lifted her dress before sitting, making sure it did not crease. She had spent too much money on it for it to get damaged.
Jade fastened her seatbelt without speaking, her lips pressed tightly together.
Meanwhile, Felicia kept glancing outside, her fingers twisting nervously in her lap.
Alexander took the seat opposite Laurel.
"Everyone strapped in?" the pilot’s voice crackled through the headset.
"Yes. Take off," Alexander replied.
The helicopter lifted slowly, the ground shrinking beneath them.
Laurel watched as the Wayne mansion grew smaller and smaller until it became nothing more than a pale structure swallowed by the grey and green landscape.
For a brief second, memories flashed through her mind, the pain, the humiliation, the loneliness she once endured within those walls... She unknowingly let out a sigh she hadn’t realised she had been holding.
But it wasn’t the building that caused her pain and humiliation, it was the very people who were sitting beside her.
Her gaze shifted toward the city. Some buildings were damaged by the extreme heat, and the trees were charred to charcoal.
The water level in the streets was already rising gradually. Laurel’s expression turned worried, she wondered if Chris had already reached the valley.
Alexander stared at her, studying her expression. Every small expression she made, made him feel like he was getting to know her a little better.
The ride was quiet, as they were all lost in their thoughts.
It was only when the Valley came into view, that Laurel snapped out her thoughts.
