Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 46 It Felt so Good
With the new mission weighing on her shoulders, Laurel stared at the burning sun shining outside.
She had already lost several hours. It was already the next day.
Her brows knit together as unease crept into her chest. The heat wave would last five more days, and it would only grow unbearable.
She had to make sure everything was ready. Once the rain came, it would not bring relief, but chains of disasters would follow.
Despite the extreme heat, the workers who had taken the space water continued working through the construction. The tractors overheated easily, causing frequent stops to cool down.
Alexander had arranged additional manpower, rotating shifts to keep progress steady.
A knock suddenly came from the other side of the door, relentless.
"What?" Laurel snapped out of her thought, opening the door.
A maid stood outside, her posture respectful. "Mrs. Wayne, your presence is requested. Grandma Wayne needs you to come downstairs." She said with a polite bow.
"I’ll be right there." She said, already sensing trouble brewing.
"Laurel, it’s my time." Ling Xuan rang in her head.
"But..."
"What?" Ling Xuan interrupted, irritation lacing her voice.
"Fine." Laurel sighed, she would take the back seat and watch everything unfold in front of her.
Her body twitched. Her eyes grew vacant before they were replaced by cold ones.
Ling Xuan rotated her neck slowly, as if she were trying to fit into her body.
She flipped the hair falling over her face back, before tying it into a ponytail.
She headed down the stairs with her chin tilted high, her hands clasped behind her back.
When her eyes fell on the gathering of the Wayne family, a subtle frown settled between her brows.
Alexander sat among them, his expression grave. When his eyes fell on her, his eyes lingered on her... her aura was different again.
"Speak of the devil..." Jade said with a haughty scoff.
A glare from Ling Xuan made her swallow her remaining words.
Her overbearing aura spread across the room, suffocating and heavy.
Even Grandpa Wayne had to shift in his seat.
"Why did you send for me?" She asked coldly, her voice devoid of emotion.
Tina, who was sitting beside Vera, stood up and ran over to Ling Xuan. She grabbed Ling Xuan which made Ling Xuan stare down at her.
’Wasn’t she afraid? Even war generals wouldn’t dare to come this close to her, not to mention holding her hands. Was she immune to danger or what?’ Ling Xuan thought inwardly.
"Aunty Laurel, they called for you because of your pretentious sister Camile. She claimed that you pushed her out of the house to die in the streets, and you also cut ties with her when she was at her worst." Tina said with an exaggerated expression.
"Is that so?" Ling Xuan drawled. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Her eyes finally found the black sheep hiding behind a man who shared a similar physique to Alexander.
"Ronan Wayne." Laurel’s voice was laced with pain and hatred.
Ling Xuan’s eyes sparkled with a deadly glint. So they were all in cahoots even before the apocalypse.
She had wanted to teach Camile a lesson for making Laurel cry, not that she cared emotionally. But Laurel is only hers to bully, no one else could make her cry or feel sad.
"Laurel, did you forget how you got into the Wayne family? If Camile didn’t plead and stand up for you, you would have remained in the streets. Now that she is having a bad time, you drove her heart!
How could you be so heartless? You wear a kind face but your heart is villainous. If you were half as good as Camile, maybe my brother’s business wouldn’t have received such a great loss!
I knew it... the very day I set eyes on you, I knew you were an omen! Now get on your knees and beg Camile for forgiveness, after all she is your benefactor.
Kneel!" Ronan’s agitated voice echoed through the room so loud that the maids had to pause whatever they were doing to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Alexander slammed his hand on the table in front of him. Sending silence through the room.
He walked up close to Ronan. "How dare you speak to my wife in that manner?!" His eyes flashed with warning.
"Brother! Has she brainwashed you? How come you are standing up for her? Did you forget what she did to you before?" Ronan’s voice rose higher in disbelief.
Meanwhile, in Ling Xuan’s head, Laurel spoke. "Sister Ling Xuan, let me handle this trouble myself. Borrow me a little of your time." She pleaded.
Ling Xuan wanted to refuse her, but she knew this life was Laurel’s after all. And she needed to learn how to stand up for herself.
"Fine, I’ll let you handle it, but if it gets physical, I’m taking over." Ling Xuan said.
"Deal."
Her body twitched slightly, the cold sharp eyes turning into a softer one burning with anger and revenge.
Tina looked at Laurel again. "Aunty Laurel... you look different now," she asked innocently.
Laurel patted her head, before walking forward.
"You want me to kneel?" Her voice was calm, a clear contrast to the anger boiling in her veins.
Ronan turned away from Alexander, who was a string away from punching him.
"Yes, you should kneel." Ronan’s face boiled with anger.
"And if I don’t, what can you do about it? I didn’t do anything wrong, so what right do you have to ask me to kneel?" Laurel’s fist tightened by her side.
"You speak about right?" Ronan approached her, invading her personal space.
Alexander stepped forward to shield Laurel, but she told him to step aside.
"Kneel right now, or I will make you!.."
A resounding slap echoed through the room, followed by gasps, grunts, and mixed expressions.
Ronan’s head turned to the other side from the mere force, all thanks to Ling Xuan’s training.
A look of surprise contorted his face, almost like he could not believe he had been slapped. And the one who slapped him was none other than the nobody they picked up from the street.
Camile’s eyes widened slightly with surprise. ’This b**ch, I’ll put her in her place. She thinks she has finally grown wings. Watch how I’ll pull you down and turn everyone against you.’
Camile thought inwardly, before wearing an innocent expression, like a wolf wearing sheep’s clothing.
She rushed to Ronan’s side. Her eyes watered with a look of guilt. She turned to Laurel.
"You ..." Camile opened her mouth to speak, but soon encountered the same fate as Ronan.
Laurel didn’t hold back, she almost slapped the life out of her. Camile fell to the ground, her eyes widened in utter shock.
"Laurel!" She cried out, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth.
Laurel’s heart pounded in her ears like a war drum, she had never felt such an adrenaline rush. And it felt so good.
Her hands trembled slightly beside her.
"You labelled me as the person who drugged Alexander, but you all are forgetting one thing. The person who was supposed to go to his room was not me... it was Camile." Laurel pointed at Camile who was sitting on the ground helplessly.
