Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 42 Training & Weapons
(Next day)
Inside a room, a petite woman with long black hair sprawled on her bed. The yin-yang necklace around her neck pulsed.
"Laurel, wake up." Ling Xuan’s cold voice echoed so loudly in her head.
Laurel gasped as she suddenly snapped her eyes open. She groggily rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand.
"Time for training." Ling Xuan’s voice echoed in her head again.
When Laurel glanced at the clock sitting on the shelf by her bed, she groaned in annoyance. It was 4:45am.
"Isn’t it too early?" Laurel asked, yawning.
"Get in the space." Ling Xuan’s tone left no room for argument.
"Coming."
Laurel sighed. She climbed out of her bed and freshened up before entering the space.
Ling Xuan stood outside the space house, her hands behind her back.
"Legs apart," Ling Xuan commanded.
Laurel was taken aback, she was just getting there. She spread her legs apart.
"Hands forward," Ling Xuan walked closer to her. "Knee lowered, spine straight." Her voice echoed through the air.
Laurel did as she was told. "Ling Xuan isn’t this squatting? I thought we were going to learn some sword moves." Laurel said lightly.
Ling Xuan’s expression remained blank and stoic. She summoned a wooden bucket of water and placed it on Laurel’s head.
Laurel’s stance became unbalanced, she wobbled and she tipped over along with the bucket of water, hitting the ground with a thud and a loud clang. The water splashed across the ground, soaking the soil and her clothes.
Laurel lay on the ground for a moment, completely stunned and embarrassed.
The water seeped through her clothes, clinging to her skin. The bucket rolled to the side with a dull thump.
Her palms pressed against the soil as she slowly pushed herself up.
Ling Xuan looked down at her, her expression unreadable. "Again."
Laurel clenched her jaw. She stood up, wiping the water from her face with the back of her sleeve, then returned to her position.
"Legs apart." Ling Xuan said.
Laurel complied.
"Knees lower."
Laurel’s thigh burned immediately.
"Spine straight."
Laurel did as she was told. She gritted her teeth as the strain traveled up her legs. She barely had time to steady herself before Ling Xuan placed another bucket of water on her head.
The weight pressed down on her, her neck felt like it was going to break from the pressure.
Her body trembled like a leaf before a storm.
"To be able to fight, first you must learn endurance and control..."
Seconds passed, turning to minutes.
Sweat trickled down Laurel’s temple, mixing with her soaked hair. Her legs shook violently now, her muscles screaming in protest. She tried to breathe evenly, but her chest felt tight.
"I can’t..." her voice cracked.
Ling Xuan remained in her spot, staring at her with a little frown.
Laurel’s knees buckled. The bucket slipped and hit the ground again, water splashing everywhere as she collapsed to one knee, panting.
Ling Xuan didn’t give her time to catch her breath.
"Again."
"Again."
"Again."
Laurel lost count of how many times she had to redo the training, maybe 99 times?
Her clothes were soaked with both water and sweat.
She bit her lower lip as she held the position, this time lasting thirty minutes without falling. Her body shook, her muscles burned but she refused to give up.
"That will be all for today..."
Before Ling Xuan could finish her words, Laurel fell on the ground along with the bucket of water. She closed her eyes, gasping desperately for air. Her lungs burned, and she could no longer feel her muscles.
"I’m... dead." She drawled in a cracked voice.
Ling Xuan stared at her for a couple of seconds. "Be on time tomorrow." She said before walking away from her.
"So cruel," Laurel muttered.
.....
Later that day, Laurel went to the warehouse to receive the weapons Chris had sent her.
When she came out of her car, she let out a groan. Although injuries sustained in the system’s space were not reflected in reality, that doesn’t mean the pain was gone.
It felt like she was beaten with a 2-by-2 wooden plank.
Her leg wobbled slightly as she walked further down the narrow path. She was stunned when she saw 6 long trailers parked by the roadside.
The men were busy offloading the boxes, carrying them inside the warehouse.
"Mrs. Wayne." A voice called from behind, snapping her out of her daze.
She turned around to find Chris stepping out of his phantom car. "Mr. Lennox." She called, her voice filled with surprise.
Chris walked towards her in long strides. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"I’m fine, just a little tired. What are you doing here?"
"I came to make sure everything went smoothly." Chris’s eyes lingered on her face a moment too long. "Are you tired from the heat? The temperature had already risen to 39 degrees, you can come inside my car if you can’t bear it."
Laurel raised her hand, waving it in the air. "I’m perfectly fine." Her eyes moved back to the trailers. "They are a lot, you didn’t have to bring this much." She was more than grateful.
"It is nothing." Chris quickly replied.
Laurel sighed. "Come, let me show you around since you’re already here."
They both walked past the men who were building the walls. Laurel was amazed at how quickly the building was going.
They had already laid the foundation, and they had started building up to 4 feet high, some other part was about 6 feet high.
The workers divided themselves into groups working on a particular spot.
The moment they saw Laurel, they all shouted greetings towards her.
The other workers working inside the valley, building houses, had already laid the foundation too.
Laurel was pleased at how fast and smoothly everything was going.
Chris glanced at the place, it was such a good hideout, his gaze calculating as if a new thought had entered his head.
When they got to the warehouse, one of Chris’s men opened a few boxes they had brought.
semi-automated magazine-fed shotguns, pistols, knives, daggers, axes, lasers, semi-automated magazine-fed rifles, crossbows, grenades, manually operated shotguns, revolvers, machete, crowbar, spear, baseball bat.
"Wow," Laurel muttered.
"I’m glad you are pleased by it," Chris said. "I have one request, Mrs. Wayne."
"Okay."
"I want to stay here with you during the pandemic. As for the mountain I bought, it is highly fortified, we can have it as a plan B in case something unexpected happens, and by the way, you won’t be able to continue my treatment if we are far apart. So will you let me stay?"
