Chapter 141: Chapter 141 Disarm Them

At that same moment, far from the restless tension building in the central square, Laurel remained inside her room humming softly as she carefully arranged the equipment and supplies that she intended to bring for the expedition outside the fortress walls.

Medical kits, ammunition cartridges, folded maps, compact rations, and small tools were arranged neatly across the table, and Laurel’s fingers moved slowly from one item to the next as she made sure she wasn’t missing anything.

She didn’t need the supplies as she had them in bulk in her space house, however she needed to put on the show so others would not grow suspicious of her.

Just as she finished fastening the clasp on a supply pouch, a firm knock sounded against the door.

"Commander."

Gabriel’s voice carried through the door with a sense of urgency that Laurel rarely heard from him.

She stopped humming, pausing briefly before responding. "Come in."

The door opened immediately, and Gabriel stepped inside with a frown of concern marred on his face.

"Commander there is a disturbance in the central square," he reported without delay. "Wayne soldiers are confronting the Lennox military force."

Laurel’s brows furrowed slightly as she straightened up. Her chest tightened as she wondered what the problem might be.

"What happened?"

"Several crates of rifles were reported missing from the armory," Gabriel explained. "The Wayne soldiers claim that Lennox soldiers transported them last night."

For a brief moment, Laurel remained completely still, her eyes widening slightly.

Then she slowly set the equipment she had been holding down on the table. "I see."

Although her expression remained calm, the thought did not sit comfortably in her mind.

’Chris would not do something like that... if he wanted weapons he had no problem getting them, and he even helped with supplying the fortress with thousands of crates of weapons, why would he resort to this low level for a few weapons... something is wrong.’ Laurel thought inwardly.

She had known him long enough to understand how carefully he handled power and responsibility, and if he intended to move weapons for any reason, he would never do so in a manner that could be exposed so easily.

Which meant there was more to the situation than Gabriel’s report.

Before Laurel could speak again, a familiar voice echoed quietly within her mind.

"Let me handle this." Ling Xuan’s voice echoed in her head.

"If the crowd becomes more agitated, the situation could spiral into violence."

Laurel exhaled quietly as she straightened. "Fine."

...

By the time Ling Xuan arrived at the central square, the civilians had gathered in large numbers around the edges of the square, their anxious voices forming a restless tide of whispers and accusations as they watched the Wayne soldiers and the Lennox military force facing each other with visible tension, their rifles lowered but ready, their postures rigid enough that anyone could see how dire the situation had become.

Ling Xuan stepped out of the armored vehicle slowly, her sharp gaze sweeping across the square in a single glance.

"Enzo." She called out calmly.

Enzo stepped forward immediately. "Yes, Commander."

"Disarm them."

Enzo rushed forward, with a quick gesture toward the soldiers behind him, he sent his men spreading outward in disciplined coordination as they moved swiftly between the two factions, their rifles raised just enough to make it clear that hesitation would not be tolerated.

"Lower your weapons!"

"Now!"

The command echoed through the square as Enzo’s men formed a controlled perimeter around both the Wayne soldiers and the Lennox military force, forcing them apart while several of them pointed their weapons toward the armed men who had been moments away from confrontation.

Chris raised his hand slightly toward his soldiers. And the Lennox soldiers lowered their rifles immediately.

Seeing this, the Wayne soldiers followed reluctantly.

Meanwhile, the civilians parted instinctively as Ling Xuan began walking forward, her steps powerful and unhurried as she moved toward the center of the square where Chris and Alexander stood waiting.

Her overwhelming aura spread across the air, forcing the people to step back away from her.

"What is the meaning of this?" she said evenly, her voice carrying effortlessly across the silent square.

For a brief moment, no one answered.

Then one of the Wayne soldiers stepped forward and explained the situation, recounting the missing weapons, the accusations directed toward the Lennox military force, and the confrontation that had followed.

Ling Xuan listened without interrupting him. If she was disappointed she didn’t show it, her face was straight and cold as ice.

When the soldier finished speaking, she stared at him for several seconds before giving her first order.

"The Wayne soldiers are responsible for bringing this matter to the public without reporting it through proper authority, you will all receive twenty strokes of the cane."

The statement stunned the crowd. And murmurs erupted immediately.

"Twenty strokes?"

"But why?"

Ling Xuan’s gaze moved calmly across the soldiers.

"For withholding important information from the commander and creating unrest within the fortress before an official investigation could be conducted."

The Waynes’ soldiers lowered their heads, seething in anger.

She then turned toward Chris.

"For the sake of fairness," she said evenly, "you will be temporarily suspended from your command until the matter is properly investigated."

Chris met her gaze without protest before giving a slight nod.

"I understand."

Before the square could settle again, another soldier suddenly pushed through the crowd.

"Commander!"

Everyone turned toward him.

"The missing weapon crates were located in the northern district," he reported quickly. "Near the meteor impact zone."

Ling Xuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

That area had suffered heavy damage during the meteor shower and remained partially under reconstruction, which meant the surveillance network there was incomplete.

A perfect blind spot... but she wouldn’t let anyone that created such an upheaval go scot-free.

"Bring the crates to the main military camp immediately," she ordered.

"Yes, Commander."

Then she turned toward the civilians gathered around the square, her calm gaze moving across their anxious faces.

"There is no need for fear," she said steadily. "This matter will be investigated thoroughly, and anyone responsible will face the consequences."

The tension among the crowd eased slightly. Finally she looked toward the soldiers surrounding the square.

"All military units return to the main camp." She ordered, her voice causing the soldiers to straighten up instinctively.

"Yes Commander," They shouted in unison.
