Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 114 Awakened Abilities
Laurel’s eyes fluttered open, and the first thing she saw was Ling Xuan who was also staring at her with a puzzled look, and strangely there was a purplish mark on her forehead that she couldn’t tell its shape, before she could take a second look, the mark disappeared as if it was never there.
Laurel felt light, and all the light energy in the room floated towards her. She stared at her hands and wondered what was wrong with her. She tried to move away from the dots of lights but they kept following her before entering her body.
She suddenly felt more energised.
"What is happening to you?" Ling Xuan’s curious voice echoed behind her.
She turned to meet her gaze. "I don’t know."
Ling Xuan tried to touch the remaining dots of lights but they all evaded her like she was poison before entering inside Laurel.
[Lights are attracted to you, because you carry the attributes of light.]
Laurel stared at her hands before turning to the system. "Light? You mean... is this also from the system?"
[Yes and no.]
"What does that mean?" Ling Xuan asked before Laurel could.
[Yes because being the hosts of the soul sync farming system, your abilities have evolved. No, because this is your awakening power caused by the apocalypse in the outside world.]
Laurel frowned in confusion. "But my powers in my past life were healing... why did it change to light this time around?" She muttered more to herself, but everyone heard her nevertheless.
Before the system could respond to her, Luo floated to her face. "Master Laurel, I was so afraid that something might happen to you. I have been crying a river for you all these while..." Luo paused when it caught Ling Xuan glaring from its peripheral vision. "...I mean I have been crying a river for both you and Master Ling Xuan." It said faking a sob.
Laurel patted its head. "I’m fine now, you don’t have to worry about me." She said with a calm smile.
Ling Xuan stepped forward. "If her powers are light, then what is mine?" Ling Xuan said. She could feel the strange energy flowing through her body, and when she tried to concentrate on it, all she saw was darkness.
[Light is Laurel’s attribute, her main ability is life... the ability to grow and restore life.] The system paused before continuing.
[As for you, your ability is the opposite. Your attribute darkness... and your ability is death... a reaper.]
Laurel paused, her throat suddenly went dry. She turned to Ling Xuan whose gaze now looked terrifying times two.
"Since the beginning of time, light and darkness can never co-exist, nor can life and death," Laurel muttered under her breath. She suddenly felt like this could make Ling Xuan and her drift further apart.
[When light comes, it must give way to darkness and vice-versa and everything that lives must surely die. They have been coexisting since the beginning of time. Hosts need to figure out how to co-exist with their abilities without disrupting the balance of the soul sync farming system.]
With that, the system disappeared before any of them could ask further questions.
Silence stretched through the air between them, as if they were trying to comprehend the meaning behind those words. Was it a good thing or a bad one?
The system suddenly popped up again.
[Reminder: 26 days, 13 hours, and 50 minutes remaining for hosts to deliver the Snow Lotus.]
It disappeared again before any of them could say a word.
After a couple of minutes passed and they were certain the system wouldn’t suddenly pop up again. Laurel turned to face Ling Xuan. "How are you feeling?" She asked, a little unsure of the question.
"Good." Ling Xuan replied curtly.
"Are you still mad at me?" She asked, yet her heart still felt heavy.
"Yes."
Laurel took a step closer. "Sister Ling Xuan, I don’t want to fight with you anymore. With our nature and abilities, I know we will always clash now and then, but we should never stay angry for long."
Ling Xuan let out a sigh. "I just can’t stand you." She said blatantly.
"I know, and likewise," Laurel muttered the last part under her breath.
"But, I won’t let our differences be our downfall. So I’ll put up with you for a while longer." Ling Xuan said calmly.
A smile formed on Laurel’s lips, although the words sounded crude to the ear, it was the nicest thing Ling Xuan had said to her.
She nodded. "I’ll see you later, I don’t know how long we have been here, I need to check if everything is alright in the outside world."
"Hmm." Ling Xuan replied.
The moment Laurel stepped out of the space house. Ling Xuan sat on the ground with crossed legs, closing her eyes to meditate.
She wanted to probe further into that feeling of darkness.
Inside her mind, all she saw was pitched darkness, she couldn’t even make out a thing out of it, it was like she was engulfed by it.
Then a voice whispered in her head. "Kill."
She immediately snapped her eyes open, and a frown settled between her brows as she stared into the distance.
.....
The moment Laurel stepped back into the real world, she found herself in the warehouse by the entrance gate. She didn’t know why she had appeared there, but before she could figure out why, a pain shot through her head.
"Laurel!" Chris’s voice rang from afar.
When she lifted her head, she saw his silhouette running towards her. Her vision blurred, and the world tilted in her view. ’Damn it... I had to go through the awakening again...’
Before her body could touch the ground, Chris caught her.
"Laurel, stay with me... are you okay?" His words were distorted in her ears, then everything went silent and dark.
...
Her eyes fluttered open to the warm light of the lamp, and the ceiling came into view as she slowly regained consciousness.
When she turned to her side, she saw a man sitting on the ground with his head on the edge of the bed. She couldn’t see his face as it was facing the other side, his dark hair shone dimly under the warm light.
Knowing that it was Chris who found her. "Chris." She muttered.
"Chris?" A very familiar voice replied, and it didn’t sound pleased.
He raised his head with an accusing gaze.
"Mr. Wayne," Laurel said, almost as if her eyes were deceiving her.
