Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts-Chapter 571 - 137: Termination_1
About six hours after Ye Nan and Zhang Shaojie took Akad from the Yanjing Assembly Site, news of Akad’s rescue and Zhang Shaojie’s defection finally reached Lin Haifeng’s office.
This wasn’t due to slow military reaction, but because Zhang Shaojie had flawlessly handled all procedures, perfectly exploiting the delay.
Of course, to Lin Haifeng, these were truly trivial matters.
Even when Akad was Sequence Number 5 at the peak of his glory, Lin Haifeng hadn’t taken him seriously, let alone now that most of Akad’s strength had been nullified.
As for Zhang Shaojie and Ye Nan? "Who are they?" Those were Lin Haifeng’s exact words upon hearing the news.
All in all, the departure of Ye Nan’s group barely caused a ripple in Yanjing. At most, two more names were added to the military’s wanted list.
Currently, the most pressing issue for Lin Haifeng remained the war outside the city: the Human Race and Sea Clan allied forces against the Demon Fiends.
Or rather, the post-victory cleanup operations and the upcoming "Sea King Control Plan"!
The Eastern City Wall of the Yanjing Assembly Site was closest to the direction of the Demon Fiend attacks.
Countless low-grade demonic creatures relentlessly assaulted the steel-forged city walls but were repelled by artillery fire and professionists. Near Tianjin, the Sea Clan Legion had already officially advanced into the urban district.
Without reinforcements from the Demon Realm, the annihilation of the Demon Fiend forces in Battle Zone Yanjing was merely a matter of time. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Amidst this chaos, however, Wen Yu found a rare moment of peace.
In the distance, a Giant Dragon roared, and Cyclops wreaked havoc.
Nearby, Faceless, disguised as Tang Haofei, stood guard with an impassive expression, alert to any movement.
Victor lay obediently beside Wen Yu, occasionally opening his eyes. His gaze conveyed a clear disdain for the massacre Star Cyclops was perpetrating in the distance.
Indeed, Victor couldn’t be bothered with Demon Fiends below Level 4.
Having boosted his physical fitness beyond 10,000 points, Wen Yu couldn’t be bothered to hunt scattered, low-level Demon Fiends either. After breaking his limits, the higher his physical fitness, the more energy he required.
So, he simply sat on a small hill not far from Yanjing, admiring the distant scenery while drinking and chatting with the person beside him.
"Have you set a time to formally ally with the Sea Clan?"
"Not yet. It should probably be within half a month after the war ends."
Tang Haofei replied, taking a small sip of the fine wine said to have once been exclusively for national leaders.
Then, a long silence fell. Wen Yu wasn’t a talkative person. Tang Haofei, on the other hand, had become somewhat reticent around Wen Yu since his return, for reasons unknown. Interestingly, this outdoor gathering had been Tang Haofei’s idea.
After a while, Tang Haofei finally broke the heavy silence that had settled as they drank.
"What do you think of the Sea Clan?"
"What do you mean?" Wen Yu was taken aback by Tang Haofei’s question.
"The relationship between Humans and the Sea Clan, that sort of thing. And your personal opinion of the Sea Clan," Tang Haofei elaborated with a shrug.
Wen Yu chuckled and shook his head. He casually took a cigarette from his space ring, lit it, and placed it in his mouth. "Why ask me this? You know I’ve never had much of an opinion on these complicated matters."
Although Wen Yu said this, his heart grew alert. Could Tang Haofei have already sensed Lin Haifeng’s plan?
Tang Haofei fell silent for a moment before asking again, "What do you think? If we defeat the Demon Tribe and escape Dominator’s control, can Humans and the Sea Clan coexist?"
He really seems to know something, Wen Yu thought, though his expression remained unchanged. He slowly turned his head and stared into Tang Haofei’s eyes.
"Impossible! Once the external war ends, an internal one will surely erupt. As the old saying goes, ’How can one allow another to snore soundly in one’s own bed?’ That’s just the nature of living beings—Humans and the Sea Clan alike!"
"Do you remember the Sino-US relations before the apocalypse? They could have cooperated, worked together to create a better living environment. But the simple pursuit of hegemony erased all dreams of peace."
"In this world, who doesn’t want to be the top dog?"
Tang Haofei nodded in agreement. "So, do you want to be the top dog?"
"What?" Wen Yu looked back, stunned. Honestly, he hadn’t understood what Tang Haofei meant.
"I mean, do you want to be Sequence Number 1?" Tang Haofei clarified. "Or rather, have you ever considered becoming Sequence Number 1?"
"Want it? I dream of it!" Wen Yu chuckled. "I assume the authority and perks of Sequence Number 1 far outweigh those of Sequence Number 2. Why do you ask? Thinking of abdicating in favor of someone more capable?"
Tang Haofei, however, merely chuckled as if Wen Yu had just told a joke, brushing the matter aside.
"Alright, one last question," Tang Haofei said. "Suppose being Sequence Number 1 doesn’t just mean authority and perks, but also entails immense responsibility and difficult choices. Would you still want it then?"
Hearing this, the playful smile on Wen Yu’s face gradually vanished.
Staring intently into Tang Haofei’s eyes, Wen Yu thought he detected a flicker of complex emotion within them.
"What’s wrong with you?"
"It’s nothing. Just take what I said as a joke," Tang Haofei replied. "It’s getting late. I should be going."
With that, Tang Haofei stood up, dusted himself off, activated a skill, and vanished in a few flickers of light.
Wen Yu squinted, watching Tang Haofei’s rapidly departing figure, his mind racing.
After a moment, Wen Yu slowly sipped his wine and muttered softly, "That guy’s nuts..."
The encirclement battle proved somewhat more challenging than anticipated.
However, the outcome remained unchanged.
Three days had passed by the time the hordes of Demon Fiends were either dead or had fled, and the Yanjing forces successfully rendezvoused with the Sea Clan Legion, clearing the entire Yanjing region of large-scale Demon Fiend presence.
Once the Yanjing Assembly Site and the Eternal Sky City hovering above it announced the news of victory through countless loudspeakers, all their inhabitants erupted in cheers that shook the heavens.
Yet, to Wen Yu’s ears, these ecstatic shouts sounded somewhat jarring.
Because Wen Yu understood that this so-called victory was not the end. For Yanjing, the Sea Clan, and even the Demon Tribe, the siege of Yanjing was merely a minor skirmish.
The real battle was still to come.
「Fifteen days later!」
The Sea King himself would visit the Yanjing Assembly Site. There, alongside Lin Haifeng, near the former Tiananmen Square, and witnessed by all surviving Humans, they would sign an alliance treaty between the two races.
