Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts-Chapter 561 - 128 Kidnap_1
"What do we do now, sir?"
Mara didn’t respond to No. 1’s question, instead rapidly assessing the current situation.
The command had just been passed down to him. The order, ostensibly to launch an attack on the Yanjing Assembly Site, in Mara’s view, was simply sending all the Demon Fiends in Battle Zone Yanjing to their deaths. They would be sacrificing their lives to inflict some insignificant damage and destruction on the Yanjing Assembly Site.
For low-grade Demon Fiends, military orders were absolute. As soon as this order was given, it was inevitable that these low-grade Demon Fiends would rush to their deaths at the Yanjing Assembly Site.
But for high-level Demon Fiends—especially those like Mara, who held a significant status, possessed strong mental acuity, and lacked any passionate zeal to die for the Demon Tribe—this suicidal advance was out of the question. Mara was resolute: he would not participate.
Marching to the Yanjing Assembly Site to meet death is an option I will never even consider. Though defying the command could lead to a series of problems—such as military punishment, demotion, and so forth...
Compared to my own life, these problems seem insignificant.
Having thought this through, Mara lifted his head, looked at the strange Demon Fiend—less than a meter tall but possessing a single, enormous eyeball—and spoke.
"No. 1, use your ability to examine the current Human and Sea Clan defense zones. Look for any weaknesses that could allow us to escape."
Upon hearing Mara’s command, No. 1’s giant eyeball started spinning rapidly. Innumerable rays of bizarrely colored light shot out from its colossal demonic eye, instantly scanning in all directions.
After a while, once No. 1 had gathered enough information, he retracted his ability. His giant eye quickly closed, and his entire body seemed to deflate. He collapsed to the ground, panting heavily as if completely drained.
"What’s the situation?" Mara paid no mind to No. 1’s exhausted state, asking urgently.
"No... problem... The Human... defense line... has many... gaps..."
The sheer number of Demon Fiends meant the battlefront was incredibly vast. Even with the Sea Clan as reinforcements, the Yanjing Assembly Site’s forces couldn’t possibly seal off the entire battle zone. The military could hold back the majority of Demon Fiends, but preventing a few from slipping through defensive gaps was an unsolvable problem.
Upon hearing this, Mara let out a sigh of relief.
Defensive gaps meant they had a chance of survival. They wouldn’t have to heed that ridiculous command to launch a suicidal attack on the Yanjing Assembly Site.
"Take a break for now... We’ll move in ten minutes. No. 1, you lead the way."
Having said that, Mara leaned against the basement wall, narrowing his eyes, constantly mulling over their current predicament and the potential punishment from the military upon their return to the Demon Realm. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Ten minutes passed in a flash.
When No. 1 had barely recovered enough to move, Mara immediately issued an order.
"Let’s go."
No. 2 and No. 3 quickly helped No. 1 to his feet, following closely behind Mara.
Mara led the way, pushing open the large basement door and heading upwards.
Incessant roars and battle cries echoed from all directions, making Mara acutely aware of their situation: the war had already spread into Tianjin City, and they truly didn’t have much time left.
With that in mind, Mara quickened his pace again...
However, the very next second...
PFFT...
A faint sound, almost lost amidst the ceaseless shrieks and battle cries from the street outside, didn’t immediately register with Mara.
Only when the footsteps of his five subordinates behind him ceased did Mara stop and turn around, his eyes wide with astonishment.
Behind him, No. 1 through No. 5 stood motionless, as if petrified...
Five thin lines of blood slowly appeared on the necks of No. 1 through No. 5. Blood oozed slowly from the Demon Fiends’ necks, like beads of sweat. Then, the wounds gaped wider, and blood gushed out like fountains. Black blood splattered all over Mara’s body.
Mara himself simply stood there, stunned and unable to move a muscle...
He was simply terrified...
Mara’s own abilities weren’t particularly suited for direct combat. Even with the species innate talent of the Ancient Demon Tribe bolstering him, his fighting prowess wasn’t exceptionally strong.
And now, he faced an incredibly powerful assassin who had just dispatched his five subordinates right before his very eyes. In short, my life is no longer my own...
The air seemed to solidify at that moment.
A faint black mist slowly emerged from the surrounding shadows, gradually coalescing in front of Mara. After about ten seconds, a middle-aged man with an ordinary face, dressed entirely in black, stood before Mara.
The man stood casually less than three meters from Mara, a short blade dancing like a butterfly between his agile fingers. The chilling glint of the steel, like an icy gust, seemed to pierce skin and bone. His unwavering killing intent locked onto Mara. The man’s calm gaze conveyed a clear message: move, and you die.
His survival instinct made Mara choose the most sensible option: he raised his hands high in a gesture of harmless surrender...
Seeing this, the middle-aged man nodded slowly, seemingly approving of Mara’s astuteness. The corners of his mouth slowly turned up into a calm smile.
"You’re Mara?"
Although he wasn’t sure how the middle-aged man knew his name, it didn’t matter at this point.
Facing that calm gaze and the short blade dancing like a butterfly flitting through flowers, Mara nodded his head vigorously, like a chicken pecking at rice.
However, the middle-aged man’s next words made Mara’s heart plummet...
"The Seed of Destruction, it’s on you, right?"
Swallowing hard, Mara felt his intellect failing him at that moment...
Seeing Mara remain silent for a long moment without any response, the middle-aged man nodded slowly.
"Judging by your reaction, it must be on you. Come with me. My Master wishes to see you."
My Master...
He didn’t know who this "Master" was, but there were probably few individuals on Earth capable of commanding such a high-level expert...
Mara already had a strong suspicion about that person’s identity.
The middle-aged man opposite Mara took out a black robe from his space ring and casually tossed it on the ground, signaling Mara to put it on.
An impulse to fight back flashed through Mara’s mind...
At such close range, maybe I can fight him...
The next second, a grey light flashed past the corner of his eye. Mara felt a sharp pain in his hand; one of his fingers had been severed and fell to the ground.
The difference in strength was far too great.
This nameless middle-aged man had to possess power at least equivalent to the top ten of the Human Race Sequence!
