Chapter 67: Demonic Wheel of Uneven Scales, Informative Talk, Dangers of Pillar

Axir followed the devil as they flew through the exotic territories.

The pillars they passed by each had a distinct aura and design.

And the further they went, the bigger the pillar became.

Axir looked behind.

There were over fifty auras following them.

Every time they passed by a pillar, a devil would join the gang.

"That’s your pillar."

After passing the 11th Despair Pillar and crossing over a hundred kilometers, the 10th Despair Pillar became visible amidst thin crimson mist.

It rose from a basin of cracked obsidian. Over five hundred meters tall and oozing heaviness all around.

It was a colossal, spiraling monolith of black iron and blood-crystal, its surface layered with uneven rings as if forged by repeated, imperfect judgments.

Veins of dull crimson light pulsed within it, not steadily, but erratically, like a heart that refused to beat in rhythm. Chains—some broken, some whole—were fused into its body, half-melted, half-buried, each etched with infernal scripts.

’Looks dangerous.’ Axir blinked.

At its base lay a circular platform of fractured sigils, ten concentric rings carved deep into the stone. The innermost ring was empty.

"That is the 10th Despair Pillar," Devil Maine announced, his voice reverent. "The Pillar of Uneven Scales. Where judgment is never fair, and balance is enforced through suffering." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Devil Maine looked at Axir.

"Axir Grimspire. Everyone has already voted for you to be the 10th Despair Pillar’s Master. So only the final question remains."

"Do you wish to ascend on the 10th Despair Pillar, and become its master?"

[ Do you wish to become the master of the 10th Despair Pillar? ]

Axir’s expression was somber as he nodded and uttered. "Yes."

In the next moment, the tower pulsed and glimmered.

Chains shot out and wrapped around Axir’s limbs before taking him away on top of the pillar.

[ You have accepted the legacy of the 10th Despair Pillar—Demonic Wheel of Uneven Scales.]

A deck connected to Axir. He could feel its malicious aura penetrating his heart and soul.

[ Legacy Deck: Demonic Wheel of Uneven Scales ]

’Decks of gods are called Prime Boon decks, but devils have Legacy decks...why this difference?’

Axir thought the game would answer him, but he got the silent treatment instead.

Shaking his head, he looked at the deck.

It was floating menacingly in his inner space, not too far from his Shivanta Sunborn Artist deck.

One was oozing crimson darkness, and the other was oozing blazing light as they clashed.

’Let’s see what cards are there.’

[Demonic Wheel of Uneven Scales deck]

Rank: Unique

Draw: 50 Mana per star of the card.

Epiphany: 0

Inspiration: 0

<Cards: 4/13>

Demonic Wheel Asgeryon (Passive) | Prime 5-star Uneven Scales | Prime 2-star Judgemental Weight | Prime 3-star Dark Blood Infusion | Prime 7-star

Axir felt the presence of other devils leaving.

But one approached.

Devil Maine arrived before him.

"How is the legacy deck?" Devil Maine smiled. "Only the 10th Pillar to the 1st Pillar have legacy decks. You don’t need approval of other devils or their help to generate and evolve the cards."

"But the Pillar...." Devil Maine looked below. "It will react and whip you."

He chuckled and moved his head back to Axir. "All the best."

"Wait." Axir stopped him, his eyes narrowing. "Why?"

"Why?" Devil Maine blinked, confused. "What do you mean?"

"You very well know what I mean. Why choose me? You and other devils should know that I was trying to kill a devil spawn some hours ago and saving a town from getting sacrificed."

Axir looked below at the pillar. "Here’s what I think."

"You chose me because I was the number one player. And it just so happens I was the type that wasn’t going to choose the gods."

"That’s your criteria. The rest...is up to the pillar, I guess." Axir’s eyes flickered and trembled. "I can feel its grip forming around my heart, my thoughts, my soul."

Devil Maine smiled. "Well, well. That’s a bingo. As expected of the number one player."

"Just like the former me."

Axir’s eyes shot back to Devil Maine. "What?"

Devil Maine looked up. "This game has been going on for an untold amount of time."

"It chooses different planets and pits them against danger and each other while giving them power. If you are strong, you can reach beyond."

"If you are weak....you become like me." Devil Maine’s fists clenched. His smile turned sharper and more frustrated.

"All devils are former players who are just now part of a random event game created for others in the game. If we die during this run, it’s over for us. If we survive, we just retain our position. But there is no escape."

Axir’s mind churned.

The information was crazy.

"Due to the nature of this event, we just appeared as Devils, with powers of this theme of Despair Pillars. We have our roles tied to us until our death."

"But you...The players are different." Devil Maine grinned. "You have a chance to win, as this is just a beginning for you."

"That is, if you can escape the clutches of this Despair Pillar."

Axir laughed. "Sounds like a fun event. I like to overcome challenges. It makes me stronger."

"So, tell me this. If you devils are former players, what about the Gods? They don’t seem to be formal players because they are manifested based on Earth’s information."

"Indeed. Gods are different." Devil Maine smiled. "Still just like us, they are tied to their roles. Only the players have freedom. And only the victor moves forward. The losers will be confined to roles until death."

"All the best, player Ace." Devil Maine turned around and waved his hand. "Let’s make this run entertaining. My death is certain, so I want to have fun before I die. Please give me that."

Leaving those words, Devil Maine vanished.

Axir sat down on the ground

’Devils are former players. That just makes them all the more tricky. I guess it was the right decision to choose this side.’

Axir grinned. ’I am going to be killing each and every one of you as soon as I am able to.’

’But you can’t kill them right now!’ A voice assaulted Axir, gripping his mind.

’So kill those you can, fool!’

[ Your mind and body have been hijacked. You have 1 minute to free yourself before the scales will tip. You will be controlled by destructive impulses and go on a rampage to kill humans weaker than you. ]

Axir’s eyes widened. His body trembled.

’What the fuck is going on?!’ Axir suddenly found himself in absolute darkness with the game notification ringing.

The darkness cracked.

All around him, crimson checks cracked and sprayed light that formed into a large demonic figure, wielding two scales in his hands, both waving up and down as Axir’s mind buzzed with immense pain, clouding his thoughts.

Axir’s eyes forced upward. His skin cracked.

The impossibly large being had a crown of skulls atop its head. Those skulls opened their mouths, shooting demonic green and crimson chains at Axir.

’Fuck!’ Axir felt the bindings.

A countdown was hovering above. He had less than a minute.

’Am I in an illusion? I have to break free from here before the countdown or my body will start killing.’

Axir had already vanished from the devil realm and appeared on Earth.

He was flying with Airbending Boots, trembling and moving abnormally.

A light step on a hill would shatter it, and upon falling, a small crater would form.

While crashing and smashing himself, his body made its way towards the nearest settlement.

An infernal card appeared and activated.

Dark Blood Infusion.

Axir’s body began to grow larger, his muscles more enhanced and bigger. His skin darkened, as tattooes and patterns formed over his body.

Hair became wilder.

And eyes gleamed like molten crimson.

’STOP!’

But right as the body entered the settlement, it froze.

The chains around Axir shattered as a dark gold aura formed around him in the illusion where his mind was trapped.

’HOW DARE YOU!’

Axir roared at the large figure on the horizon.

’NO ONE WILL CONTROL ME AGAIN!’

’NO ONE!’

His will projected into an ever-burning flame, destroying the illusion as he regained his conciousness.

People were gathering, so Axir quickly left, appearing thousands of meters high in the sky.

’Fucking hell.’ Axir took a deep breath and calmed himself.

[ Congratulations. You have acquired an Epiphany of Shivanta Sunborn Artist deck’s card— Ash Veiled Skin | Prime 7-star. Choose your evolution. ]

’Hmm?’ Axir was surprised, but it made sense given what he went through and survived.

’This power...’ Axir’s eyes glinted.

And upon a certain realization, he sucked in a cold breath.

If he were one second late, the town would have been destroyed with just a serious, single wave of his hand. Pure physical.

And all that because of a single card. His current dark-patterned, armed, and bronze skin appearance was also because of this card from his despair pillar’s Legacy deck.

[ Dark Blood Infusion ]

Card Quality: Prime 7-star.
