At 10 AM, the sun was shining brightly. After a night of nerve-wracking vigilance, the arrival of daylight brought a sense of relief aboard the Infinite Train. The tense and anxious atmosphere finally eased a little.

Since the train doors remained shut, Chen Sixuan led the group in continuing to improve the living area inside the carriages while distributing water and food.

Shasha, having slept through the night, got up early and joined her brother in Car No. 5 to sort through their stockpile of weapons.

Lin Xian had only managed to sleep for three hours, but he felt somewhat refreshed. As he stepped out of the living quarters, he saw KIKI already seated in the information center, chewing on bread while operating a drone to scout out the nearby town.

When she saw Lin Xian enter Car No. 2, KIKI glanced at him with a smirk, the corners of her mouth curving into a knowing expression before she quickly turned back to the screen as if nothing had happened.

Lin Xian immediately sensed that something was off about her gaze. He felt a little awkward—had she caught him stealing a kiss last night?

If so, then in KIKI’s mind, he was now undeniably a complete b******.

“You’re awake?”

At that moment, Chen Sixuan approached and said, “Only slept for a few hours?”

Lin Xian was about to say something, but seeing Chen Sixuan walk over, he cleared his throat and replied, “It’s enough. I can’t sleep for too long. Now that it’s daylight, I’m planning to take a group into the town to check it out.”

“I want to go! I want to go too!”

Shasha ran down the corridor, her face full of excitement.

“You’re staying. We need people to hold the fort. If you really want to get off the train, go with the others and scout the freight station surroundings for anything useful,” Lin Xian said.

“Ugh…” Shasha looked disappointed. “Alright then. You guys be careful.”

“Oh, right.”

Lin Xian suddenly remembered something. He gathered materials from the manufacturing facility and quickly got to work. About ten minutes later, a sleek, black Thunderstorm A1 Grenade Launcher was freshly assembled.

“Whoa!!”

Shasha’s eyes widened in shock as she eagerly grabbed the weapon from Lin Xian’s hands. “No way, Lin-ge, since when did you learn to make something like this?”

The grenade launcher looked oversized for the petite Shasha, yet Lin Xian noticed she handled it with surprising ease.

“You’re holding that like it’s nothing.”

“Is it supposed to be heavy?” Shasha lifted it a bit and shrugged. “A little heavier than my old one, but this one loads six rounds at once—it’s way better!”

Her earlier disappointment instantly vanished, and she now clutched her new weapon with excitement, unable to put it down.

Chen Sixuan turned to Lin Xian. “How are you arranging the rest of the team?”

“You take a team to clean up around the train. Shasha and Huo-ge will check the freight station for supplies. I’ll head into town with KIKI, Shu Qin, and Da Lou in two separate teams to scout the area.”

There were still non-combatants aboard, including Ding Junyi and the women in the living quarters. Lin Xian decided to leave Lu Xingchen, the fire-type ability user, behind. Lu wasn’t one for running around anyway—he preferred basking in the sun and brewing tea. Plus, he was strong, making him an ideal guardian for the train.

As for Shu Qin, she was highly skilled, cautious, and sharp. Lin Xian planned for her and Da Lou to investigate the outskirts of the town, searching for anything unusual about the area’s ability to repel Eerie Entities.

“One more thing,” Lin Xian said, glancing at the cockpit. “Keep an eye on the responder and communication devices. Let me know immediately if anything happens.”

“Got it.”

“Oh, right. The weapon station is fully deployed now. If necessary, you can switch it to automatic fire mode. Director Ding has already registered our personnel’s facial recognition and vitals into the friend-or-foe system. If you’re unsure how to use the targeting system, ask Shasha—I taught her this morning.”

KIKI added this casually, but Chen Sixuan was left completely bewildered. “You mean… that big cannon?”

Lin Xian nodded. “Just in case. You have defensive measures onboard now.”

Even though it was daytime, with the train’s weapon station fully operational, the defenders needed to know how to use it. If trouble arose, they could rely on the CIWS for covering fire.

“Understood.” Chen Sixuan nodded, feeling a bit emotional.

In the past, when she had to guard the train, all she could do was clutch a wrench and anxiously wait for Lin Xian to return. But now, they had an armed squad, and even onboard defensive cannons. Their firepower and security had drastically improved.

With Lin Xian’s arrangements in place, the entire team geared up. The combat personnel took their positions behind the automated doors of Car No. 5 and Car No. 11, waiting for Lin Xian to open them.

“Stay alert. There may be other survivors here. Friend or foe, we don’t know yet—stay cautious,” Lin Xian warned over the comms.

The blast-proof doors swiftly opened. Though the sunlight outside was dazzling, a ghostly chill swept in. The train carriages, filled with people, had grown warmer than the eerie cold of the outside.

Weapons raised, the team swiftly disembarked. Lin Xian gestured, and Lü Chang, Miao Lu, and the other evolved fighters spread out in formation, scanning the platform surroundings.

Shasha, now armed with her new weapon, followed closely behind Lu Xingchen as they stepped off the train.

From Car No. 11, the lowering ramp descended, and Da Lou drove a bulletproof off-road vehicle onto the platform. Shu Qin climbed into the passenger seat and turned to Lin Xian. “Lin, be careful. People hiding in towns like this… are usually lawless types.”

“I know.” Lin Xian nodded, pointing past the railway. “Da Lou, Shu Qin, sweep the perimeter. Figure out the general boundary of this safe zone.”

If this area truly repelled Eerie Entities, then something had to be causing it—either within the town itself or along its borders. For safety reasons, Lin Xian didn’t send the regular squad members in first; he wasn’t about to use them as cannon fodder.

“Got it, Brother Xian.” Da Lou started the engine and drove off the platform.

Vrrroooom—

“Let’s go.”

KIKI, meanwhile, had finally pulled out her long-unused motorcycle. She revved the engine and took off toward the town, with Lin Xian riding behind her.

The Infinite Train remained heavily guarded, and once Lin Xian and Shu Qin’s teams left, Chen Sixuan got to work leading a crew to wash off the blood and remains left from last night’s battle with the Eerie Entities. The stench was foul, and Lin Xian had long suspected that such odors could attract the creatures at night. Ever since Apocalypse Day, he had developed a habit of clearing and deodorizing their shelter—something Chen Sixuan had also come to appreciate. She made sure the train stayed as clean as possible.

“Alright, let’s check those warehouses.”

Shasha, though small, acted like a boss. With sunglasses on and the Thunderstorm A1 Grenade Launcher in hand, she strutted up to Lu Xingchen.

Lu Xingchen, meanwhile, had just set down a chair, ready to lounge in the sun.

Shasha shot him a glare. “Stop slacking! Weren’t you looking for tea leaves? Still want them or not?”

Lu Xingchen crossed his arms and lazily eyed the tightly sealed warehouse doors. With a smirk, he said, “Dummy. Clearly, this place stores chemicals. No way there’s tea in there.”

Shasha fumed but then suddenly grinned mischievously. “Fine, if you won’t come, I’ll just go with the others. If I get killed by some bandits, no big deal. People will just say that the mighty Fire God was all talk—just a fraud, all bark and no bite…”
