Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 174: Triple Tide
The massive black train, hundreds of meters long, began to accelerate under the setting sun.
18:40
The tracks stretched into the old forest valley, and the skyline seemed to sink into a sea of black.
Chen Sixuan looked at the travel guide and said, “It’s almost nightfall. I don’t know why, but ever since we left Jiazhou City, I’ve had this eerie cold feeling.”
Lin Xian glanced at the distant horizon, his expression subtly changing.
He had felt the same way, but hearing Chen Sixuan voice her concerns made him uneasy.
Clank.
The train’s speed suddenly slowed, as though something had been run over. Lin Xian and Chen Sixuan were jolted forward by inertia, both frowning.
“What was that?”
Chen Sixuan furrowed her brows, shaking her head. “I didn’t see anything.”
Lin Xian felt something was off. The tracks were clear, no zombies or obstructions in sight, yet something had caused the train to slow.
“Anyone feel something’s wrong?” Lin Xian asked cautiously, picking up his communicator to contact the key personnel across the carriages.
“I feel a bit cold,” Shasha replied first.
“Did we just hit something?” came KIKI’s voice.
“I feel uneasy too,” Shu Qin’s voice followed from Carriage No. 10. “Maybe I’m overthinking, but every time I’ve had this feeling, trouble followed.”
In Carriage No. 5, Lu Xingchen was fixing his hair when he glanced at Da Lou. “Is Lin Xian calling us?”
Da Lou raised his hand and pointed to the communicator. “Lin Xian said something feels off. Did you notice anything?”
Lu Xingchen frowned and raised his palm, a flame sparking in his hand.
Suddenly, the flame flared up, trembling violently before quickly settling down.
Flare after flare!
He ignited both hands, and the car was bathed in a red glow. He suddenly scowled, a rare gravity appearing on his face. “This cold... it’s not just the temperature. There’s something sinister at play.”
In Carriage No. 2, KIKI sat in front of the control panel, brow furrowed, analyzing the train’s parameters and scanning the sentinel systems. Yet, she found nothing.
“Lin Xian, nothing’s showing up, but I feel something’s wrong. Should we stop and check?” she asked, holding her communicator.
Clank.
The train’s speed slowed again, this time with a heavier, more sluggish feeling.
Lin Xian, upon hearing the feedback, narrowed his eyes. He had an idea and quickly returned to Carriage No. 1, where he activated the device mounted on the train—an anomalous cube.
[Ding! Using non-mechanical force for reflection detection.]
[Detection successful. No fear risks detected. Dimensional dark force invasion has been blocked.]
“No sign of anything inside... Could it be that I’m overreacting?”
His heart skipped a beat as he grabbed the Soul Wave Detector, pressing the button. The eerie blood crystal began to emit a faint red energy pulse, quickly retracting, causing the detector’s needle to twitch.
-100
-200
-300
-500
-1000!!!
Looking at the rapidly descending negative Soul Wave values, Lin Xian’s expression darkened.
-1000 wasn’t the actual data—it was the limit of his simple Soul Wave Detector’s range.
Lin Xian’s face grew grim as he picked up the communicator, his voice low and steady. “Everyone, be alert. The Soul Wave Detector is picking up dangerously high levels of dark force. Something anomalous might be targeting us.”
At those words, tension spread through the carriages.
Lin Xian walked to Carriage No. 2, where KIKI, still furrowing her brows, reported, “Nothing. I haven’t found anything here.”
“Is it those crows in the sky?”
“No.”
“Lin Xian…”
“Hm?” Just as Lin Xian was about to visit the other carriages, KIKI called out.
She looked at him and said, “It’s almost nightfall.”
Lin Xian’s expression shifted, and without a word, he turned and ran back to the cockpit.
“Chen, are there any bridges or tunnels ahead? We might need to speed up and push through.”
Chen Sixuan replied directly, “There are plenty. This area is still mountainous. The plains only begin after Hengshan Pass. If we head into the forest, we’ll encounter swamps and wetlands.”
Beep. Beep.
The second alert from his wristwatch went off.
18:45
“It’s getting dark!”
Lin Xian looked ahead. The sunset hadn’t yet set, but the skyline already shimmered with eerie light.
But in the next moment, his face changed dramatically.
Chen Sixuan shouted in surprise, “Lin Xian, look! Three beams of light are coming at us!”
Lin Xian saw it too. Every time night fell, the dark tide’s glowing aura would streak across the horizon like a curtain, plunging the world into darkness. This time, however, there were three beams coming from different directions, rippling through the sky like waves across water.
“That’s... a tidal wave coming from three Abyss zones!”
Before Lin Xian could finish, the world was suddenly engulfed in blackness.
Clank.
The train encountered another drag, and in an instant, all the windows of the Infinite Train, including the sentinel system’s monitors, went completely black.
“What’s happening?”
KIKI jumped up from her seat and rushed to the window, lifting the blackout panel. She looked out, but the window seemed to be covered by something, and she couldn’t see anything.
In the cockpit, as the darkness descended, something large and black suddenly blocked the front window. Chen Sixuan’s gaze sharpened, and she realized the object covering the window appeared to be moving slowly—like the body of an insect!
“Ah!”
Instantly, Lin Xian ordered the Infinite Train to slow down, and screams erupted throughout the carriage.
“Lin Xian!”
KIKI’s voice came urgently through the communicator. “The outside of our train is crawling with these things!”
Everyone froze in shock.
Outside, as the Infinite Train descended deeper into the mountains, countless monstrous, creepy entities clung to the train. These creatures were enormous, their grotesque bodies twisting and contorting, entangling the entire train. The sound of steel being crushed rang out from all directions, leaving everyone startled by the suddenness of the attack.
Thud, thud, thud...
Suddenly, the entire Infinite Train was surrounded. The air was filled with the eerie sounds of creatures climbing and moving, with insect-like limbs skittering across the train’s windows, leaving the passengers frozen in fear.
“Where did these things come from?!”
Chen Sixuan’s face turned pale as she held back her fear, cautiously speaking to Lin Xian.

Lin Xian remained silent. His Mechanical Heart was linked to the entire train, and he could feel the strain on every carriage as external forces tried to penetrate. His heart sank.
Why had these creatures appeared so suddenly? Despite all the precautions they had taken, Lin Xian was still startled by the unexpected danger.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
A giant black insect crawled across the front of the train, and a creature with numerous human-like arms slowly approached the front. It suspended itself, revealing a monstrous spider face, its eyes twisted and pale, with two large eyes that resembled twisted human faces, wide open, emitting an aura of terrifying fear.
