Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 362 - 350: Enemy Ark Attacks
"Where the hell are the reinforcements?!" a military officer roared.
An eighteen-meter-tall Third Level mutant had just swung its arm and scattered an entire group of knights.
Immediately, others replaced them, and a barrage of bullets and laser beams quickly resolved this monster, but there were still dozens more mutants like it!
"They said they’ll be here in sixty seconds," another officer loudly responded.
"Sixty seconds? Do they think they’re Hell Paratroopers? How could they possibly..." Before he could finish his sentence, the battlefield was shrouded in a black mist.
The black mist was exceedingly dense.
Both the living and the dead lost sight of their enemies within it.
After a while, the mist dispersed, revealing a beautiful, long-legged young woman.
She wore black clothing and held a silver bow, with creatures made of fog on either side of her.
One stood about six meters tall, holding a short sword in each hand, while the other measured eight meters tall, wielding a two-handed sword.
The woman tensed the bowstring and melded fog into an arrow, her slender fingers releasing the arrow into the enemy ranks.
Whether the arrow hit its target was irrelevant.
Once it struck anything, it created a dome of ice eighty meters in diameter.
A second later, the dome melted away, leaving a pile of frozen bodies.
Only a few Second Level hulks and one Third Level hulk were strong enough to survive the freezing.
But they looked miserable, their limbs frozen, their organs injured, moving with great difficulty.
The Fog Warriors protecting Rein roared as they charged into the fray.
The larger warrior swung his sword, slicing through a group of zombies, while the other moved swiftly, almost as if dancing.
Stab, swing, stab, stab, in half a second four zombies turned into lifeless corpses.
The Fog Warriors were not worried about their mistress, for if any enemy got close to her, she would transform into mist, teleporting to a safer spot.
"Retreat! I’ll cover you!" Rein shouted at the soldiers as she fired at the zombies.
The soldiers responded rapidly.
As Rein cleared the street, they resolved the enemies harassing them and immediately began retreating.
Rein covered them for about five more minutes before being summoned to another part of the battlefield.
Once her task was done, she and her warriors dissolved into a cloud of black mist, dispersing away.
Meanwhile, Siri and her insects had reached the front lines.
This giant Beetle Queen, as large as a two-story apartment building, carefully maneuvered through the human army’s ranks and began a massacre among the mutants.
Dealing with large enemies was easier for her, but she also had weapons for tackling smaller foes.
When enemies surrounded her, she would emit a scream, and all her spikes exploded like shrapnel from a hand grenade, turning hundreds of enemies into pincushions.
The Beetle Queen grabbed a Third Level zombie, biting at its head, then tearing it off and swallowing it.
Meanwhile, her Worker Ants and Miner Ants also charged at the enemy.
The Worker Ants were about the size of large dogs, while the Miner Ants were as big as wart hogs, weighing over two hundred pounds.
The Beastmen and Shapeshifters quickly began assisting Siri, maintaining a proper distance so as not to hinder her, or get impaled by her spikes.
Initially, the zombies didn’t know how to deal with such a large enemy, but they eventually adapted.
The zombies swarmed, and the mutants kept trying to climb onto her massive back...
And they succeeded.
Mutants with claws scaled her carapace, desperately tearing at her.
However, Siri anticipated this, so her spikes were ready.
Whenever a mutant entered her range, she would launch spikes, killing them one by one.
Although Siri was incredibly powerful, she couldn’t fight an entire army alone.
The ordinary zombies clung to the Queen’s legs, while the mutants attacked her limbs.
A squad of humans rushed in to assist, easing some of her burden.
This allowed her to unleash her true power, crush buildings, dismember mutants, and skew many lesser foes with her spikes.
"Headquarters calling Fifth Squad, please respond!"
"Fifth Squad here."
"A giant monster codenamed ’Spider’ is heading your way. Ensure you have a way to deal with its webs and speed up your retreat."
"Yes, sir! Headquarters!"
Thanks to Siri, the squad faced much less pressure now, and they began actively preparing for the upcoming situation.
The Spider was coming!
The squad moved as quickly as possible, but the soldiers couldn’t quickly break through the zombie horde.
Only by relying on the knights and their aura did they barely manage, minimizing the damage they suffered.
A massive web suddenly fell upon the Beetle Queen, entirely entangling her.
The zombies and mutants immediately seized the opportunity, but... the humans were prepared!
They knew the giant spider’s webs were highly sensitive to cold, so Lin Yi had bought several cans of liquid nitrogen from Tilian ahead of time.
The Miner Ants were also very adept at cutting through webs, so Siri was quickly rescued, but the good times didn’t last.
Immediately, another strand of spider silk fell from the sky, followed by a second, then a third...
But Mira quickly spotted the giant spider, hiding half a kilometer away from the battlefield.
She dashed towards it, and the spider, in a panic, leaped away, finally halting the onslaught of silk.
The Zombie General deployed his most formidable giant monsters in close combat.
Da Chuan had been holding off the caterpillar monsters for a long time; after all, acidic projectiles are harder to deal with than six-meter-long spikes.
The zombie army continued its assault, while Solomon’s Stone Giant was constantly under attack from minions.
Humans retaliated constantly with arrows, bullets, magic spells, and even swords. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
The enemy wasn’t having an easy time either.
Shelter’s soldiers retreated slowly but steadily, the streets piling up with corpses.
There was one particularly troublesome point: loot!
"Kaya, respond."
Lin Yi said, switching to Channel 12, which was specifically for his three half-human, half-insect children.
"What’s up, Father? Do you need help? Where are you? I’ll be right there!" Kaya immediately said.
"I need your Devourers to collect loot. Start with green quality and above."
"Huh? Loot? But the enemy..."
Kaya was a bit taken aback, having already killed thousands of enemies, and now...
"This is more important! Our survival depends on this loot, so I want you to treat this as your top priority, understand?!"
"I... alright, Father, I understand! I won’t let you down!"
After speaking, Lin Yi rode the "Dagger" motorcycle, flying through the air to survey the situation.
"How are you doing, Piero?"
He turned around and shouted, but it was useless to shout. What he saw was a corpse... or someone who looked like a corpse.
This Mage had exhausted all the magic batteries in the Shelter and absorbed some energy cores, causing significant harm to his health.
"Still... still holding on..." Piero’s voice was nearly inaudible while maintaining another fire wall.
"You know, I was just thinking... we’ll get a lot of Coins. We should be able to upgrade the Dome and then head to another port..."
"Really?!"
"Of course, this time we’re going to buy everything they’ve got; you deserve it."
"Thanks, boss!" The young Mage immediately perked up and began absorbing another energy core.
For the sake of the alien beauty, he was willing to go through fire and water!
At this moment, four Third Level and seven Second Level rushed in. If they flanked the army or attacked from rooftops, it would cause great trouble.
Lin Yi flew a little closer and used his laser rifle to shoot them.
Piero couldn’t help because he was maintaining a fire wall, blocking a street, but Lin Yi didn’t really need much help anyway.
He had already gained about 14,000 Experience Points and would be happy to earn another 14,000, but the enemy’s Ark really disrupted his plans.
Thanks to a series of coincidences, the zombies couldn’t use their absolute numerical advantage to completely overwhelm the human army.
The Zombie General had deployed a massive force, constantly en route to the battlefield.
But due to factors like the Giant Dragon and artillery volleys, the Zombie General had to divert his main forces deeper into the island, closer to the Water Crane Ark.
For this reason, the Shelter was currently facing only about a million enemies, possibly a bit more.
Yet even such a number of enemies was enough to push the human army to the limit, and the enemy was attacking in small waves.
If a million zombies launched an attack at once, they could use sheer numbers to drown the soldiers.
The enemy’s Ark undoubtedly belonged to the Argon people.
Because beneath the Ark was a sea monster that looked identical to the Mother of Sharks and Rays patrolling around the island.
The Master of the Ark seemed in no hurry to attack, or rather, he was now utterly bewildered.
His plan was to launch a surprise attack on the Shelter, but his target had just collided with a Moving Island, and a massive one at that!
He knew this island; all the higher races did. It was a famous Ark Devourer Island.
If it absorbed the Heart of the World... no one knew what would happen, but he was sure he couldn’t survive.
Even so, the Master of the Ark still decided to attack the Shelter, just in case they could obtain the Heart of the World.
The Ark deployed twenty small teams, but the Shelter was surrounded by an impenetrable barrier.
And to the left of the Shelter was the Moving Island, to the right was the dilapidated Water Crane Ark.
The Ark Lord didn’t know what to do and immediately sent a message to the King.
Almost immediately, he received a reply: "At all costs—obtain the Heart of the World!"
He had no choice but to comply.
The red beam of the Harpoon pierced through the Dome, hitting the center of a wheat field and killing several creatures working there.
The explosion was extremely violent, leaving a ten-meter diameter crater.
The attack didn’t stop there.
The farmland bore the brunt of the destruction, as it occupied most of the Shelter’s space...
