Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies-Chapter 156 - I Must Go Up to Find Her!
Chapter 156: Chapter 156 I Must Go Up to Find Her!
“Crash! Crash!”
Under the force of the powerful explosion, the windows on the side of the 101 Air Hotel nearest to the fireball shattered to pieces.
Below, just as Jiang Yan and two others had taken advantage of the night to slip into a guest room on the 23rd floor, they felt a chill at the back of their heads and necks.
The cold wind whipped up the blackout curtains and white gauze curtains by the floor-to-ceiling windows, howling, bringing with it icy raindrops that pitter-pattered as they fell inside.
Watching a sudden burst of blinding daylight amidst the loud noise outside the window, the three exchanged a wary glance.
In the corridor outside the room, there was the sound of hurried footsteps.
...
Judging by the noise, there were quite a few people guarding outside.
“This—” Zhao Pengfei’s eyes bulged as he was speechless for a second, “Could it be that the two helicopters that took off just a moment ago exploded mid-air?”

Sun Jingtao shook his head, furrowing his brows and said, “No, it’s an impact wave caused by the detonation of a large quantity of explosives together. However, why these explosives exploded in mid-air is a mystery.”
While they were talking, scattered flames fell from the sky, pitter-pattering as they dropped into the water.
“Snap!”
A charred arm, tattooed and smelling of burns, smashed through the window and landed in front of Jiang Yan.
Jiang Yan’s frown deepened, “Brother Tao, Jiang Yan must be in trouble! I have to go up to find her!”
He turned and briskly walked toward the door, only to be yanked back by Sun Jingtao, “Xiao Ye, wait a moment!”
“What’s the matter?” Jiang Yan furrowed his brows in confusion.
“We’re on the 23rd floor now, and Jiang Yan is on the 30th. Even if you want to go up, we must fight our way there. If you rush out like this, you’ll become a sieve,” Sun Jingtao shook his head, advising him.
Zhao Pengfei also said, “Yeah, Xiao Ye, don’t rush.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yan clenched his fists, took a deep breath and his eyes sharpened as he said, “Then let’s fight our way up!”
“This floor is the entrance to their lair; they have many people on guard. I’ll go take a look first.”
As Sun Jingtao spoke, he stepped quickly forward to the door, pressing his ear tightly against it.
Jiang Yan and Zhao Pengfei, holding their weapons, tiptoed after him.
After listening for a moment at the door, Sun Jingtao got up and said:
“Judging by the footsteps, they must have gone upstairs. I’ll open the door first to check, and when I count to three with my fingers, Jiang Yan, you open the door. Be sure to watch the corners when we move, to avoid any Hidden Guards they might have left.”
“Okay.” Jiang Yan and Zhao Pengfei nodded in unison.
Sun Jingtao took a deep breath and slowly, quietly twisted the door open.
It was pitch black outside.
Fortunately, he was wearing the night vision glasses Jiang Yan had given him, which allowed him to clearly see everything outside.
Sun Jingtao quickly surveyed the scene outside.
The building was cylindrical.
The elevator and the staircase seemed to be centrally located within the cylinder.
The rooms were arranged in a circular pattern around it.
At that moment, the corridor was eerily quiet, so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Sun Jingtao slowly raised his hand, “One, two, three—”
Jiang Yan twisted the door handle and Sun Jingtao, holding the shotgun, was the first to rush out.
Zhao Pengfei second, Jiang Yan third.
“Who’s there!” A voice exclaimed from a corner.
There was indeed a Hidden Guard—an bald man with a large earring, holding a submachine gun.
He was hiding behind a large ceramic vase near the elevator.
“Pfft—”
Jiang Yan, equipped with night vision glasses, had already taken aim and fired, and immediately rushed toward the source of the voice.
The silencer was already on his handgun, so the sound wasn’t loud.
“Ow—” But the guard’s cry of pain was not quiet.
Luckily, just as he started to scream, Jiang Yan had already reached him, controlling both his body and his mouth.
His aim wasn’t perfect; the shot hit the guard’s shoulder.
At the site of the gunshot wound, warm, red liquid was gushing out profusely.
Sun Jingtao and Zhao Pengfei glanced around vigilantly, then quickly followed, pointing their guns at the guard’s head, “Where are the others?”
Dragging the guard into the room for interrogation wasn’t feasible, so Sun Jingtao had to whisper, “Upstairs, they’ve all gone upstairs.”
Jiang Yan swiftly took the submachine gun from the injured guard’s body.
Looking at the blinking walkie-talkie on his chest, Sun Jingtao threatened, “Try contacting them to see which floor they’re on. If you dare reveal even a single word, I’ll blow your head off!”
“Big brother, I can’t get through. Our signals have been jammed; we can only communicate between floors,” the guard said, his eyes shrank back in fear.
His mouth was firmly covered by Jiang Yan, only loosened slightly when he spoke.
Seeing that the guard didn’t seem to be lying, Sun Jingtao changed his approach, “Speak! On which floor is your control center? And where are the women and children being held?”
“Don’t, I don’t know,” the other man’s eyes flickered, and he immediately shook his head vehemently.
“Brother Zhao, cover his mouth.” After Jiang Yan finished speaking, he pulled out a sharp dagger.
“Okay.” As soon as Zhao Pengfei covered the man’s mouth, Jiang Yan’s dagger dug into the freshly wounded spot on the bald man’s head.
The fabric around the bleeding wound quickly became even more saturated.
The bald man shivered, and large beads of sweat popped out on his forehead within a second.
“If you’re ready to answer us, nod your head. Otherwise, I don’t mind helping you dig out the bullet casing,” Jiang Yan spoke slowly and gravely, the oppressive feeling heavy in the air.
The man glanced at the dagger in Jiang Yan’s hand, growing panicked.
Before Jiang Yan’s blade even began to twist, the man was already frantically nodding, “Boss and the others, they’re on the 30th floor, and the captives are, in the hanging pool on the 24th floor.”
“Everyone is detained there?!”
“Sort of.” The bald man, grimacing in pain and despair, clenched his teeth and continued, “There’s also a part on the 31st floor, in the mezzanine. But those, they’ve been selected.”
“Selected, what does that mean?”
“I, I don’t know, I’m just a lowly thug…”
“How many people are detained?”
“Maybe, a few hundred…”
“That many, where from?”
“Several high-rise residential areas, and an aviation residence, with lots of male and female flight attendants…”
Hearing this, Sun Jingtao and Jiang Yan frowned slightly and exchanged a glance.
After pressing for more details, Jiang Yan finished the man off with one swipe of his dagger.
“Brother Zhao, do you know how to shoot?” Jiang Yan, holding the newly acquired submachine gun, stood up and glanced at Zhao Pengfei.
“No. Xiao Ye, keep it for yourself. Giving it to me would be a waste of bullets; I’m more familiar with this.” Zhao Pengfei shook the fire axe in his hand.
“Okay.” Jiang Yan looked at Sun Jingtao.
With a sweeping gesture, Sun Jingtao commanded, “Upstairs.”
Crouching low, the three quickly moved to the stairwell beside the elevator.
There was also a fire door here.
They cautiously pushed it open to reveal a spiral staircase, which was surprisingly devoid of people.
But as they looked up, they were shocked into stillness.
