Chapter 51: Vague Plans
"Now, before we begin discussing the details, Lisa, take a seat. You’re a part of this discussion now," Reich gestured smoothly, his cold gaze fixated on her.
Almost instantly, a subordinate brought a chair and placed it behind her. Lisa hesitated for a fraction of a second before lowering herself onto it, her fingers curling slightly against the armrests. Anxiety flickered across her face, but she masked it quickly.
Reich leaned forward, interlocking his fingers as he rested his elbows on the grand table before him. "Since both of you already know my plan, there’s no need for me to explain it again. Instead, we will focus on discussing the proceedings." He paused briefly, scanning their faces for any sign of uncertainty.
Roosevelt and the other figure—both sitting stiffly at attention—nodded in understanding. They knew exactly what he meant. The plan was straightforward: Lisa would unleash her amalgamations and monsters upon the city, creating chaos and devastation and Riech would defend the city like a hero. It was the perfect stage for Reich’s next move.
"Good," Reich continued, his voice calm but authoritative. "The proceedings don’t require much elaboration either, so I’ll summarize them in a few sentences." He let the words linger before continuing.
"Simply put, Lisa will proceed with her attack as planned, while we remain in position to monitor the situation. Our goal is twofold: first, to ensure that we are prepared for any counterattacks; second, to control the scale of destruction. This is not merely an attack—it is a spectacle. A real battle, yes, but one carefully orchestrated to incite fear while keeping structural damage and casualties at a minimum. We cannot afford complete annihilation; that would defeat the purpose. When the time comes for me to ’save’ the people, I need them to believe in the illusion of a hero," Reich explained, his voice carrying an unsettling sense of calculation.
Both Roosevelt and the other subordinate listened attentively, absorbing every word. Despite the vague details, the underlying strategy was crystal clear: create terror, control the destruction, and allow Reich to emerge as the city’s savior.
Reich’s piercing gaze settled on them. "Is that clear? Answer with Yes or No."
"Yes, Lord," they responded in unison, their voices firm.
A small, satisfied smirk tugged at Reich’s lips. "Good. Now, Roosevelt, you may ask Lisa any questions you have. I know there are many things you wish to clarify."
Roosevelt hesitated briefly, ensuring he was granted full permission before speaking. He was careful not to offend Reich—one misstep could cost him dearly as couldn’t predict anything about Riech. Finally, he lowered his head slightly in respect. "Thank you, my lord."
Reich waved a hand dismissively. "Enough of that. Get to your question—I don’t have time to waste."
Roosevelt nodded and turned his attention to Lisa. "Lisa, what is the scale of the attack?"
Lisa took a measured breath, her earlier anxiety replaced by a more composed demeanor. She straightened her posture before responding, her tone now firm.
"The attack will be equivalent to a Scale B monster raid. The majority of the creatures will be lower-tier, but there will be a few high-level monsters among them—B-rank and even A-rank threats. The objective is simple: raze the city to the ground, destroy infrastructure, and kill as many people as possible."
Her words were devoid of hesitation, spoken with the confidence of someone who had done this before. There was no remorse in her tone, only a chilling certainty.
Silence settled over the room for a moment as the weight of her statement hung in the air. Roosevelt met her gaze, gauging the depth of her conviction. Reich, however, remained entirely unaffected. If anything, he seemed pleased.
"I see..." Roosevelt murmured, deep in thought. Then, raising his gaze to Reich, he added, "Master, shouldn’t we also include Barak in the planning? He’s the one who oversees the knights in the territory."
Reich’s expression remained unreadable, but a hint of amusement flickered in his eyes. "Do I really need to spell out why I haven’t invited him?"
Roosevelt fell silent for a moment, then lowered his head. He already knew the answer.
Barak was a righteous man. While he never openly opposed Reich’s rule, he never actively participated in his tyranny either. He walked a fine line, helping the people in quiet defiance but never crossing the line into rebellion. In a scheme like this—where deception and destruction were the main tools—Barak would never agree to be involved. It would be pointless to include him.
"I apologize, my lord," Roosevelt said humbly.
Reich leaned back in his chair, fingers tapping rhythmically against the armrest. "I understand why you asked. But tell me, what would be the benefit of proceeding with this plan if everyone was already prepared and ready to fend off the demons?"
Roosevelt had no answer.
"There needs to be some unpreparedness," Reich continued. "If the knights are too well-informed, the attack will seem staged. We must make everything look as real as possible."
Roosevelt nodded in understanding. Reich was, as always, thinking several steps ahead.
Turning to Lisa, Roosevelt shifted the topic. "Lisa, will you be able to recover from the damage our lord causes during his ’rescue’?"
Lisa met his gaze with a composed expression. "Yes, it won’t take too long. But I may need additional mana potions to ensure I don’t miss the deadline."
"Understood. And when will your partner return?"
"He should be back within a week, once he’s finished reporting to the Marquess."
Roosevelt stroked his chin thoughtfully before speaking again. "That’s all I needed to know. I will take it from here, Master."
Reich smirked. "Good. I’m placing her under your service. I trust you’ll make her useful to me."
"You can put your faith in me, my lord," Roosevelt said confidently.
"I am." Reich’s response was simple, yet it carried an air of finality.
With that, he stood from his seat, and both Roosevelt and Lisa followed suit.
"Would you like to have something before you leave, Master?" Roosevelt asked as Reich prepared to walk away.
"I would appreciate it, but not today," Reich replied. His gaze flickered toward Lisa, amusement glinting in his eyes. "I have some personal matters to settle with your student, so I hope you won’t mind me borrowing her for a few hours."
"Of course not, Master. She’s your subject, after all," Roosevelt chuckled lightly, the laugh carrying the weight of an old man who had long since stopped questioning the whims of his superior.
"Thanks for your generous words, Roosevelt," Reich said, laughing in return.
To Roosevelt, Reich’s behavior was as unpredictable as a gender reveal party—you never knew what you were going to get. One moment he was serious and terrifying, the next, he was laughing as if nothing in the world could trouble him. This sudden shift left Roosevelt utterly bewildered. He couldn’t tell whether Reich’s amusement was genuine or if there was another layer to his actions.
But, as always, questioning Reich was not an option. There was simply no way that he could question his lord.
"But now, I shall take my leave. Pardon me," Reich said, turning toward the exit. freewёbnoνel.com
Lisa followed without hesitation, trailing behind him like an obedient pup.
"As you wish, my lord," Roosevelt bowed deeply, watching as they made their way toward the door.
Just before stepping out, Reich paused. With a swift motion, he changed his clothing, slipping into a carefully prepared disguise. The transformation was quick yet seamless, his appearance shifting just enough that no one would recognize him at a glance.
Lisa observed in silence, her brow furrowing slightly. The path they had taken to reach this meeting had no surveillance, no wandering eyes that could identify him. So why the disguise now?
Reich, as if sensing her unspoken question, smirked. "You look confused."
Lisa hesitated before speaking. "I just thought... There wasn’t a need for a disguise earlier, so why now?"
His smirk widened. "Think about it. You’re about to attack my city—cause death, destruction, and panic. No lord in their right mind would be seen walking beside a terrorist, let alone fucking one." His tone was casual, almost amused, but the words carried a weight that made her tense slightly. "In short, I don’t want anyone outside Roosevelt’s circle knowing about our association."
Lisa swallowed, understanding now why secrecy was crucial. The wrong person seeing them together could unravel everything.
Reich tilted his head slightly, observing her reaction. Then, his eyes flicked toward her face. "Do you not have anything to cover yourself with?"
Caught off guard, Lisa blinked. "Y-Yes, I do," she stammered, reaching into the folds of her clothing.
"Then what are you waiting for?" Reich said impatiently. "Put it on. Or do you want to make an announcement to the whole city?"
His sharp words sent a chill down her spine. Without another word, she quickly pulled up her hood and adjusted a thin mask over her lower face, ensuring her features were obscured.
Reich nodded in approval before pushing open the door. "Good. Now, let’s go."
