Chapter 69 - 69

He thought he would be greeted by a beautiful girl with long, black hair.

"Who is this little brat?"

Looking at the short-haired boy who appeared to be in middle school standing before him, Kitahara Sosuke couldn't help but feel a bit put out.

"Who is this guy?"

Across from Sosuke, the boy inside the doorway looked at the tall, unfamiliar young man who had suddenly appeared at his house and thought with equal bewilderment.

He had been about to go out and play soccer with his friends when he ran into this person just as he was leaving.

Their meeting was purely coincidental.

Since Granny Shinto wasn't at the shop, Sosuke went back home and, while eating, pondered things by himself for a while.

Then, after some thought, he decided to take what Granny had left behind and invite Komachi and Miko to meet up at two o'clock in the afternoon.

There was no need to hide it. Sosuke felt that sharing it with the girls who had shared similar secret experiences was the right thing to do.

He couldn't do it at his place because Saki was there... not that he felt guilty or anything, but Sosuke just thought explaining would be a hassle.

As for Komachi's house, it was Sunday, and her parents would be home.

So, to avoid trouble, the three of them chose to meet at Miko's house. However, Miko had clearly said on the phone that her family would all be out, yet this little kid had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

The two stared at each other, their eyes wide, each suspicious of the other's identity.

"Could this person be my sister's boyfriend?! This is a huge deal, Mom!"

Thinking of this possibility, Miko's younger brother, Kosuke, suddenly looked extremely tense, wishing he could immediately ask his sister for clarification.

On the other side, Kitahara Sosuke also seemed to recall something.

"I remember Miko mentioning she had a younger brother... this must be the little guy. He does look a bit like her."

His eyes were a bit lifeless, and although his inner thoughts were quite dramatic, his outward appearance gave others the impression of a cool, aloof young boy.

Just like Miko, who was a seemingly stoic JK on the outside but quite timid on the inside.

Their appearances and auras were quite similar.

"Hello there, little brother,"

Having guessed the boy's possible identity, the slight dissatisfaction Sosuke had felt earlier completely vanished, and he greeted the boy with a very friendly attitude.

"Hello..."

Miko's brother instinctively wanted to reach out his hand in response, but quickly realized.

"Wait, who are you?"

"My name is Kitahara Sosuke. I'm your sister's friend, little brother,"

Sosuke replied with a very friendly smile to the handsome young boy in front of him.

You could really tell they were siblings.

Miko was a top-tier beauty, and her brother, not having fully gone through puberty yet, looked slightly feminine at the moment.

He was definitely a handsome young boy.

Sosuke didn't know that this was because their mother, who wasn't home at the time, was a woman who was beautiful in her youth... and even now, was still a charming beauty.

And so, the two of them, one wary and the other trying to get closer to his friend's brother, chatted idly at the door, trying to glean information from each other.

"Ah, Kosuke, you haven't gone out yet?"

A voice suddenly came from behind Kitahara Sosuke. Wearing a hooded windbreaker, Miko seemed to have just returned from outside.

"Sosuke-kun, please come in"

"Thank you!"

The two of them went into the entryway one after the other.

"Are these slippers the right size? I bought them on the way back."

"They're very comfortable."

Sosuke and Miko lingered at the entrance for a moment before quickly disappearing around the corner.

Kosuke, left in the same spot, watched the two of them leave, chatting and laughing, and a warning bell rang loudly in his mind.

"They're even calling each other by their first names... it really is my sister's boyfriend! Mom!"

Miko's brother hurriedly ran into the house, disappearing somewhere.

He probably went to call his mother, who was out at the moment, to report this sudden and significant event that had occurred at their home.

"Miko, do you have a friend over?"

Inside Miko's house, a tall, thin middle-aged man wearing glasses suddenly appeared beside Miko and Sosuke, greeting them warmly.

"Hello, my name is Kitahara Sosuke. I'm Miko's friend,"

Sosuke replied respectfully, instantly understanding the man's identity.

This man was probably the head of the household.

His calm and collected, owner-like demeanor couldn't possibly belong to anyone else.

However, what intrigued him was that the girl seemed to completely ignore the man's presence, not even exchanging a single word with this seemingly good-natured middle-aged man.

She simply lowered her head and quietly tugged at the corner of Sosuke's clothes from behind, as if wanting him to leave and not talk to the man.

Opposite them.

"..."

The middle-aged man looked at Sosuke, who was talking to him, with a look of utter shock on his face.

Then, his expression softened, and finally, it turned into one of... what looked like heartfelt relief.

Sosuke, who had been watching his changing expressions the entire time, felt utterly bewildered.

Miko, on the other hand, continued to keep her head down, avoiding looking at the man, but she no longer urged Sosuke to leave and simply remained silently by his side.

Not saying a word.

"Is that how it is,"

Miko's father looked at Miko, who was keeping her head down and pretending not to see him, then looked at Sosuke, who was talking to him, and a relieved expression spread across his face.

"Excuse me, Uncle, what do you mean by..."

Kitahara Sosuke didn't understand the meaning of his words.

The uncle smiled at the boy who was a head taller than him and then said in a serious tone.

"Miko has been carrying everything alone all this time."

"Now that you're here by her side, I feel a lot more at ease."

The tone of his voice was incredibly complex.

Looking at the two of them together, Miko's father felt a sense of relief he had never experienced before.

"Of course, I will definitely protect Miko."

The way the uncle spoke, as if he were saying his last words, confused Sosuke, but he still replied with a serious tone, making a promise to the man.

Hearing the determination in his words, the uncle felt that his long-standing worries could finally be completely put down.

"Thank you. I'm entrusting Miko to you, Sosuke-kun."

Miko's father said this, but then he didn't wait for Sosuke's reply.

"You two have fun, I won't disturb you."

Saying this, and glancing at his daughter again, the uncle walked straight towards the door.

Because the boy who had once defeated a monster and protected her and Komachi was by her side, the girl's heart held much more courage than usual, compared to when she was alone.

"Father..."

Hiding half of her body behind Sosuke, Miko couldn't help but raise her head, her gaze wavering as she looked at her father's back and called out to him.

"..."

The middle-aged man's slightly hunched back seemed to straighten up a little in that instant.

The sunlight from outside slanted onto his body, making him look somewhat blurry.

Like a phantom.

Miko's father looked at his daughter and the boy who seemed to have finally understood, a smile of relief on his face.
