An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me-Chapter 74: Show Them
Chapter 74: Show Them
Three days went by like a breeze, with nothing really special happening, except for the fact that Riven sold off all his crystals from the monster to the adventurer guild and got a butt load of coins.
His father also chipped in, giving each of them a hundred gold coins each, both boys were basically rich at the moment. He also gave Noel the money to cover their tuition, like he was so sure that they would both get into the academy.
After bidding everyone goodbye, they all got into a carriage that was prepared and began their journey to the capital, and the Royal Academy, where the final exams were. Luckily for them, Robert was only a twelve-hour journey to the floral earth using the forest route, so they would reach after sunset, enough time to rest and prepare for the next exams the following day.
As they rode toward the capital, Riven expected the cliché bandit-coming-out-of-the-forest-to-attack-them scene, but to his disappointment, it didn’t happen, and for some reason, that genuinely pissed him off.
’Am I not important enough to have such an event?’ he thought to himself.
The capital of Vermillion was no small city, it was a major metropolis buzzing with life and innovation. Its walls stood close to fifty feet tall, built of fine marble and stone. The capital had four gates, each facing North, South, East, or West.
When they arrived at the gates after the sun had set, crystals lit up the gates, carefully placed at certain positions.
The guards checked their carriage, ascertained what they were doing there from the coachman, and collected a temporary entry pass of two silver coins per person.
The coachman rode into the capital after that, following the main street, his first location an inn for the boys.
"You know that the Royal Academy is not technically in the capital, right?" Noel suddenly asked.
"Oh yeah, I know, it’s on a separate island outside the South gate. We came in through the North gate, which means? We have to go all the way to the opposite, through the gates, and head toward the island to get to the academy," Riven responded.
"Seems you are really informed. The academy is more of a small town rather than a school, and despite their size, they only have a few students, unlike other academies.
The Royal Academy strives to only take in the best of the best. I think only two hundred of us will make it this year for the Magic and Martial Arts class," Noel said. He leaned into his chair more and relaxed.
"But there’s also the administrative classes, they have about two hundred too, right?" Riven asked.
"Hmmm? How do you know about that as well? I never see you studying anything related to the academy," Noel said.
"Well I did, I’m not all that dull, you know," Riven said.
’Nope, you aren’t. Well, you aren’t, but Riven was. I wonder how long it will take for you to finally tell me the truth,’ Noel thought as he looked at Riven.
They made it to a simple inn where they would spend the night. They both got their rooms and lodged in without an issue. It wasn’t anything special, but it was at least fit for a noble.
Riven lay on his bed while looking at the ceiling, lost in thought. The room was simple and very effective, with a bed, a bathroom, a cupboard, and a crystal mounted on the wall for light.
’I wish they allowed me bring Sophie, she would have been a big help for me. Having a maid around to help me, sigh.
I wonder how Liam is doing as well, this whole war and stuff, I hope he is fine. I’ll kill him if he isn’t.
Knock knock.
Riven suddenly got a knock on his door. He walked up to the door.
"Who is there?" he asked.
"It’s me, Noel. I wanna talk a bit."
Riven opened the door and allowed his brother in. Noel sat down on the bed, he stared at the ceiling for a bit before he looked at Riven who was standing at the door.
"Tomorrow is the day. The academy will be four long years of our life, put through shit left and right. It might look like we are nobles, but at the end of the day, we are simply the sons of a Baron, there is nothing really special about us.
It’s like we don’t fit in anywhere. We can’t be with commoners, and we can’t really fit in with the nobles. We stand at the crossroads," Noel said. He leaned back and laid on the bed.
"But one thing is for sure, I’m certainly going to press to reach the top. You know the reason I was so against you when you said you would be going to the academy was because I thought you were throwing a tantrum.
I thought you just wanted to do what you wanted to do for the fun of it or something, and that made me mad, because any stupid thing you did would somehow be tied back to me, so it would reflect on me.
It’s not that I hated you, I just felt that you would be the stain on my reputation and I’m sincerely sorry about that. I learned that you were not joking, and that you had ambition after the fight with the golem.
It took me almost dying to discover that my brother was a new person and had really changed for the better." He got up from the bed and walked to Riven. He looked him right in the eye and spoke.
"When tomorrow comes, don’t hold back for anyone, go all out, show them what Grave can do, show them your strength. Let’s make it through this academy as the best to ever exist. Let’s shove our success in the face of all those that see you as trash." Noel hit his fist against Riven’s chest, "Show them," he said.
