Amber Sword-Chapter 858 - 161: Vaporization (Part 2)
The Holy Multi-headed Dragon stood in the valley, slowly turning around, its massive tail sweeping over the tops of the two people's heads more than once, scaring them into a cold sweat.
Their figures blended into the shadow behind the huge rock one after the other, almost feeling completely drained, Qian was fine, but Brand felt his back was almost soaked with sweat.
He let out a long breath and began to plan what to do next. His gaze passed over a patch of tree shadows, fortunately in the Black Forest, the towering ancient trees left not much open space.
He considered moving along the side near the northern ridge. If he could enter the other side of the valley there, it would be enough to avoid the gaze of the Holy Multi-headed Dragon.
The distance was less than two miles, even less than half of what was originally estimated.
However, there was some trouble in between, having to pass through a stream that crossed the valley. If the bushes on the banks of the stream were not enough to provide cover for both of them, then this action would become very dangerous.
But he weighed the pros and cons in his mind and decided to go ahead. Being indecisive on the battlefield is not a good habit. An excellent warrior must first have confidence in himself—if he can't even believe he can do it, then he most likely won't be able to.
And Brand happens to be one of the outstanding warriors among players.
He and Qian rested behind the rock for about a minute, during which the Holy Multi-headed Dragon was slowly advancing along the valley, seemingly searching for something, its fifteen heads twisting above.
The two did not dare to make a sound. After Brand counted fifty seconds, he gestured to the red-haired girl beside him, then the two dashed out like lightning.
They leapt and landed in the shadow of a giant oak tree, holding their breath, as if waiting for a verdict of destiny.
But the Holy Multi-headed Dragon still didn't notice this side, the white mountain had advanced halfway through the valley. Its actions seemed clumsy and slow, but Brand knew that was actually an illusion.
—If you could take a step over a hundred meters far, you would know that so-called slowness is only a relative term.
Brand's next target was a forest of hornbeam by the river, the dense leaves of the Carpifiable plants were the best cover for hunters in the mountains, no exception for them.
They quietly reached the riverbank along that woodland, during which Qian accidentally stepped on a dead branch, the crisp 'crack' sounded as if they had been struck by lightning.
But fortunately, luck was on their side this time. The Holy Multi-headed Dragon seemed to have discovered some movement on the other side of the valley. It raised its fifteen heads and roared in unison, then slowly turned in that direction.
White cloud-like tails swept across the forest sky once more.
Was it Veronica or Mephisto? Brand was unsure, but at this moment, he could only wish them good luck and seize the opportunity to dash forward, Qian closely followed, the two quickly crossed the edge of the forest and into waist-deep thicket of artemisia, which extended to the exposed cobblestone area near the stream.
The stream was almost just a few dozen feet away, both were a bit out of breath, though they had run no more than a mile and more. With their stamina, they shouldn't feel fatigued, but the intense tension accelerated the depletion of their energy, and both felt a bit overwhelmed.
When Brand reached the edge of the stream, he looked back. At this moment, their straight-line distance from the Holy Multi-headed Dragon, which looked like a small mountain, was about as long as this valley—two to three thousand meters.
That might sound far, but for this mythical creature, it was just a few steps away, its enormous tail probably was nearly a kilometer long.
This was something completely unbeatable, in Brand's memory, the only thing comparable was the Evil Dragon, whose lair alone had a diameter of several hundred miles.
He patted his face, snapping out of the harrowing hunting experience known as the Dragon's Nest War. The Holy Multi-headed Dragon was attacking something at the other end of the valley, its fifteen giant heads piercing through clouds and mist, diving now and then at targets thousands of meters below.
This puzzled Brand, Veronica and Mephisto couldn't have run that far in such a short time—was there someone else?
With this suspicion, he looked back at the thicket, about to step out, but just then, Brand suddenly felt a strong force from the left, feeling his shoulder tighten—instantly realizing there were others in the bushes, but this reaction was a bit late, as the force had already grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back.
"Lord!" Qian saw a hand reach out from the bushes and instantly pull Brand in, startled, she instinctively drew the short sword from her boot.
But she immediately saw a familiar face.
Veronica had one hand grasping Brand, the other with a sword pointed at Qian's chest.
"Lady Veronica?" Brand saw the person who grabbed him, and was first shocked—he hadn't forgotten about losing contact with three important figures of the Cruz Empire, and he knew better than anyone else that at least two of those young lords and ladies had been killed by Lord Withering.
"Shh," the Empire's Female War God, face serious, glanced overhead, then lowered her head to speak to them: "If you want to live, don't make a sound!"
Brand froze for a moment, but suddenly understood something. He looked up along Veronica's gaze and indeed saw that although the Holy Multi-headed Dragon was attacking targets at the other end of the valley, the mist on its body was spreading, gradually enveloping the entire forest canopy.
Mistification!
Brand was shocked, he originally thought that mist was just a projection of the Ancestral Divine Beast, but now it seemed not at all.
Veronica's reminder made him realize that it might not even be an Ancestral Divine Beast, but rather the mist itself between the valleys.
The Druids encountered this very thing.
Brand immediately associated with this.
He looked down at Veronica, understanding that this woman had saved his life. That if those mists themselves were part of the Holy Multi-headed Dragon, then the entire valley should be under its surveillance at this moment.
As soon as he left the dense woods, he would immediately be captured by the opponent.
But why would Veronica save him?
