Chapter 31 - Shadow Organization

Shortly after the events, the storm clouds over the small town faded away, revealing the soft light of dawn. At the same time, five planes appeared on the horizon, heading straight for the building.

Rhea sighed and moved closer to the window as several figures rushed inside. They looked at the three in the back, then at her, quickly asking what had happened.

She kept it brief. "These two are the siblings of the rookie I was guiding. They're the ones who awakened."

"The Altar reported two ancestral awakenings!" a woman who arrived with this entourage said seriously.

"Yeah, I confirm it," Rhea replied, and the others forgot to breathe for a second. "Don't worry. They'll go to the capital with their brother and live with him from now on. I'll handle their recruitment."

The newcomers took one last look at the three in the back, then at the bloody scene around them. They were clearly shocked and deep in thought.

"We'll go back and verify. Get back soon, you have a report to file," the woman said. Without another word, everyone nodded and left.

Well, almost everyone.

A man who looked around Darian's age stayed behind. He had short black hair and blue-gray eyes—just like Rhea's.

"Mom... what..."

He murmured, but she just nodded. "Let's head back. We won't need to use the Artifact."

Rhea turned toward Darian and his siblings. As she got closer, she stopped, startled...

She activated her power, a yellowish aura glowing in her eyes. Then, she clearly felt a dense, pure healing energy surrounding the two.

It was restoring their bodies completely.

The process lasted just five seconds, and by the end, all their physical wounds had vanished.

Darian let out a breath. "They were only slightly hurt and really malnourished. Looks like those bastards didn't have time to do anything worse..."

The man behind them noticed something. He crouched down and picked up two small black needles from the bloodstained floor.

"These are Infernal Mind Needles," he said grimly. "I heard a lot of them have been popping up on the market lately—coming from the Celestial Order Empire."

Rhea nodded. "They couldn't harm them too much, or it would've ruined the effect of the artifact they were planning to use. These needles would've destroyed their minds but also recorded all their memories for later analysis with another artifact. This is some sinister shit from a demon-controlled universe."

Darian scoffed, furious. "How the hell do things like this end up in these people's hands?! Do they really come from other universes?"

"Yeah. Everything abnormal that's appeared on Earth in the past few centuries came from other universes. Like I said before, empires get a lot of perks—including permission to bring in these artifacts—when their Spiritual Guardians contribute to helping other universes."

She explained it dryly and motioned for the man to put the needles away.

"Earth's empires have different policies on artifacts. In New Arcadia, where we live, only High Humans have access to these items. But other empires sell some stuff to the underworld or to whoever can afford it. Plus, there's smuggling from other planets in our universe. In the end, stopping this completely is impossible."

Darian scoffed again. Human life was already complicated enough, and now there were unpredictable elements like this everywhere? He himself had bought that poison before, never even questioning where it came from. No ordinary human knew.

The most powerful combat artifacts were probably reserved for Spiritual Guardian missions. But strange and useful items were irresponsibly spread around by the empires.

"Let's go," Rhea said, helping Darian carry his siblings outside.

They got into the plane and calmly headed toward the capital.

During the flight, Darian turned to Rhea and asked the question that had been stuck in his head:

"What's this ancestral awakening that woman mentioned?"

Rhea looked at the two twins, lost in thought, then turned to Darian, serious. "It's an extremely rare awakening nowadays, but in the past, it happened to every first-generation awakened."

She noticed the confusion in Darian's eyes, so she nodded and added,

"Let's start from the beginning. This info is classified for ordinary humans, but you can know now. You've probably read legends from past centuries about people suddenly awakening extraordinary powers, right?"

Darian nodded, and she continued:

"Those were never just legends. Throughout Earth's history, there have always been reports of people with unusual abilities. But it was in the middle of the 21st century that everything exploded and started being documented, thanks to the technology of that time."

Rhea explained how, during that period, chaos took over. Governments tried to hide the phenomena, but the truth couldn't be denied forever. That was when everything changed...

A secret organization that had already been ruling the world from the shadows finally revealed itself.

They introduced themselves as an alliance formed by the world's greatest powers, working in secret to protect humanity. But the truth was much darker: at that moment, they secured a deal with the most influential countries and forced the smaller ones to accept it.

Any information about the awakened was suppressed. On the internet, evidence was deleted, ridiculed, or discredited. Over time, without solid proof, the world forgot, turning reality into myth.

But this organization didn't just do that. They brought knowledge of the first Artifact—what is now known as the Celestial Altar.

It appeared naturally in a remote area, somewhere in what used to be Europe. It was a direct channel to the Will of the Heavens. This was a universal consciousness that governed all universes and, for some unknown reason, decided to intervene directly.

It was the Will of the Heavens that set the rules for awakening, recruitment, and everything related to the Spiritual Guardians.

At first, only four altars existed. But the Will of the Heavens revealed something else to that organization.

Three sunken continents on Earth would rise. And, as predicted, in the 22nd century, the world began to change forever.

First, a massive landmass emerged in the Atlantic Ocean, between the ancient nations of Mexico and the continent of Africa, roughly the size of Australia. Religious people immediately made bold claims: this was the legendary continent of Atlantis.

At its center, a Celestial Altar already existed. Today, that place has become the Aeternum Atlantis Empire.

A few months later, another landmass surfaced between South Africa and Australia, connecting to the latter. It was another ancient, legendary place—Lemuria. Once again, an altar was already there. Today, this territory is known as the Aurora Coalition Empire.

The following year, to the north, where Siberia and northern Russia once lay, an even larger landmass rose from the depths. It was less well-known, but still the subject of old legends. Its name: Hyperborea. Like the others, it had an altar and eventually became the Polar Circle Empire.

Obviously, the sudden arrival of these three continents triggered devastating earthquakes, colossal tsunamis, and an uncountable number of deaths.

But by the early 23rd century, exploration of these new lands revealed something incredible: they were unnaturally fertile, with crop yields that defied all logic and science. Literally, anything planted there produced five times more than normal. Over time, humans from all over the world settled these lands.

By the end of that same century, another unbelievable Chapter began.

The world's biggest countries united, erasing borders and forming six massive organizations that divided the planet among them.

Laws and government systems were streamlined to ease cultural transitions. This process, however, was incredibly bloody and dirty—marked by religious, ethical, and political conflicts.

But, as with everything that had happened before, the secret organization was behind the scenes, pulling the strings with their arsenal of High Humans and artifacts from other universes.

Then, in the 24th century, this mysterious organization, the one that once presented itself as humanity's guardian, completely vanished.

The Empires simply announced that its activities had ceased, as Earth had finally entered an era of peace. But for those who knew the real history, the truth might be far more complicated.

Rhea wrapped up her explanation:

"Ancestral awakening was common before the Will of the Heavens intervened directly in our universe. With its interference, the strength of the awakened was reduced to less than 10% of their original potential. That way, they wouldn't pose a threat to ordinary humans, making these awakenings extremely rare."

She paused before adding:

"It still happens, but as you can imagine, anyone who undergoes this—someone who, even with only 10% of their natural power, is still terrifyingly strong—is... something else. This phenomenon occurs only once or twice a century across the entire Earth. Every single person who has experienced it became an absolute powerhouse. And now... two appeared at the same time."

Darian narrowed his eyes. "What exactly makes them so special, in practical terms? Surely, you've studied this extensively."

"Yes. Every single one of them is born with a natural blessing and possesses a law connected to their soul. In other words, the entrance test is completely irrelevant for them. That's why they're automatically approved."

Rhea noticed Darian's expression tighten and added:

"Yeah, it's a bit unfair. But back in the day, the first Spiritual Guardians of this level ended up dying pointlessly. The test was originally meant to help them learn how to use their blessing properly before being accepted. But now, that can be done without forcing them to take such a senseless risk."

"All six Celestial Altars send a direct warning to the Empire, revealing the location of a new awakened the moment they appear. Over time, the Will of the Heavens added a way to identify an ancestral awakening. That way, these awakened don't have to take the test if they don't want to. After all, they already have a blessing and a law. Why risk their lives in such a dangerous place?"
