Chapter 86: Chapter 86

Lucas POV

“...And may I get a report on how our warriors are suppressing the rogue alert we received a few days ago in our lower villages?” I asked staring at the Pack’s Gamma. Gamma Leo.

“I was going to hand that in tomorrow, Alpha but since we’re all here, I might as well say it. Well, our warriors were able to quell it. Although they haven’t been able to drive out all the rogues terrorizing the area, they’re working hard to do it.”

I nodded, satisfied.

“That’s okay. Give me more updates on it and let me know when the other items arrive. Thank you all, let’s close the meeting.”

I rose to my feet, while the others rose, giving me a curt bow before they filed out of the room.

I dropped back on my chair, letting out an exhausted sigh, these days I’ve been working extra hard. One of the ways I knew I could bring Lily back to Golden Moon was to take charge of the affairs of the pack. So that, neither her father Alpha Gregory Stone nor her sister Vanessa would be in the way.

Since I couldn’t have to come willingly to me, using my position as an Alpha, I could easily get her extracted back to Golden Moon, no questions asked. So, for months now, I’ve been running the affairs of this pack tenaciously.

There was a brief knock on the door to my office. Sighing discontentedly as Vanessa’s scent wafted up my nose, I tried to maintain a neutral expression as the door opened and Vanessa poked her head into my office.

“Do you have a minute?” she asked.

“Not really!” I responded, sparing her a glance before concentrating on the documents spread out in front of me pretending that I was reading it.

She entered fully into the office, closing the door behind her before she strutted to my desk. That was when I noticed what she was wearing.

She had a dress, that stopped just a few inches below her bum with small slits by the side.

“So,” she started saying with a wide smile on her face “I’m going to hang out with the girls tonight. It’s Reese’s birthday and she didn’t want anything shouty, so we’d just go to the club, have a few drinks, click some pictures and I’ll be home before midnight.”

“No!” I said promptly, flipping through the documents.

“No?” she repeated, her brows arching with surprise. “Why?”

“Number one, you’re dressed like a cheap Omega, number two, shouldn’t you be more concerned about your exams rather than clubbing and three, you never come home before midnight. Let’s not forget you might come home wasted. No one is going to clean up after you today...”

“But...” her eyes widened.

“You’re going to be Luna of this pack someday; is this the example you want to set? Clubbing all day? Do you even know half of the affairs that go on in the pack house?”

Her eyes widened the more as she stared at me . Then, after a few seconds, she scoffed and marched around my table and came to where I was.

“Lucas, I don’t know but it seems you’re forgetting your place a lot these days. I made you...”

“You made me nothing, Vanessa!” I interrupted her before she finished. “I earned this title because of my hard work and nothing else. I am your mate, and soon we’ll be official, you will do as I say.”

“You can’t do that!” she cried, tears forming in her eyes. “You already made me miss two important events last month. I can’t let you do that to me again. I’m going, whether you approve or not.”

I stared at her for a few seconds and then shrugged. “Fine, suit yourself just make sure you pack for the week because if you leave the pack house, I’ll make sure you’re locked out.”

She stood there, with tears in her eyes as she stared at me. After a while, she sighed and started stalking the door.

Then I remembered I was supposed to give her something.

“Hold on!” I called out, opening my drawer and bringing out a slip of paper. I walked over to her and thrust it into her hands. “I decided that we should hold our mating ceremony this summer. I’ve picked out three suitable dates, select the one that agrees with you the most and get back to me.”

She stared at the paper and then came back at me. “You can’t make such arrangements without my permission?”

“I can!” I said with a quiet smile. “Now, I need to get back to work,” I walked over to the door and held it open. “Please leave, now!”

Royal Hunter Pack.

Lily POV

The afternoon sun bathed the packhouse as I stood in the kitchen, organizing the cabinets and humming to a tone under my breath. It was one of the days when I was learning how to be a proper Luna.

I spent the entire day with Luna Helen – Kai’s mother and since we were done with our lesson, I got bored. I saw the kitchenette to Kai’s side of the packhouse was a bit messy so I decided to take care of it.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t notice Kai. I turned to drop something on a counter and saw him leaning casually at the doorway making me jump with fright as my heart skipped a beat. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

“You look focused,” he remarked.

“I’m just tidying up,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “Did you just come home? It’s not evening yet? Are you done with work?”

“I wanted to clear my head,” he continued quietly “Decided to come home early.”

“Oh!” I nodded. This is actually the first time I am running into him in days and since I started coming to the pack house. “So, what are you up to?” I asked, in an attempt to fill up the uncomfortable void between us.

He smirked. “Oh, just thinking about how to get you to stop avoiding me.”

I rolled my eyes, but couldn’t suppress a small smile. “I’m not avoiding you.”

“Right,” he scoffed. “Then why is it that every time I try to fix a date with you this week, you maintain you are so busy with school work but you make time for my mother every day. Do you love her now?”

I paused, gripping the edge of the counter. He wasn’t wrong. I’d been keeping some distance, not because I didn’t want to be with him, but because I was still sorting out my feelings. Kai had stood up for me against his mother – according to Celeste, this was the first time he was disobeying her. The move shocked me and made me realize how deeply he cared.

“This is learning too, Kai and I’m sorry but I truly had a lot of workloads this week.”

He didn’t say anything. He just straightened and crossed the room toward me. “By the way,” he said, his voice taking on a casual tone that didn’t match the intensity in his eyes, “I heard something interesting today.”

I arched a brow. “Oh? What is it?”

He leaned against the counter beside me, his closeness making my pulse quicken and making Hazel purr, wantonly. “I heard Lucas has fixed the mating ceremony between him and your sister.”
