Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 74
Briella POV
My frustration has been building for weeks.
Since that night I followed Kai to his sister’s place hoping to find something incriminating against him, I’ve found nothing. It was either he was careful and must have discovered that I’d been tailing him or it had all been in my imagination and he wasn’t doing anything.
It was worse that I couldn’t sleep or function or do any of the things I loved to do because I knew something was wrong with him. Not only had he been avoiding me for weeks, he was always busy and every time, it was the same excuses. ‘Pack business’ or ‘territory issues’ And now I’ve been hearing whispers that he was always with someone.
The women at his office had been gossiping about it for a while, using it as a way to insult me subtly. I had my suspicions but I needed to confirm. Given Kai’s upbringing, he didn’t seem to me like someone who would settle for someone like Lily.
But, I noticed something recently, Kai was always disappearing every dawn and would come back most times by morning with a smile on his face, the other day I caught him whistling. He always treated me like I was invisible.
But it was his morning disappearances that I couldn’t ignore. Like right now, I sat on my bed, listening as his door opened and closed again... running to my window, I saw he was dressed casually and was walking towards the gate.
“Something’s not right,” I muttered to myself, scrolling through my phone contacts. My fingers hovered over Kevin’s number before I pressed dial.
“Kevin,” I said the moment he answered. “I need your help.”
“Not again, Brie!” Kevin groaned. “I already told you that Kai is up to nothing. We followed him for two weeks straight and got nothing. He’s clean.”
“I know,” I lowered my tone “And I’m sorry that you feel stressed it’s just that something has been bugging me lately and I can’t help but wonder if there’s more to it. I noticed Kai has been leaving the house every morning by dawn and then come back mid-morning looking like he won the lottery. I need to know what’s going on.”
“Maybe he’s going for a run or a walk or something,” Kevin suggested.
“There’s a well-equipped gym in the pack house and he always used that. He started this recently and I just need to know that I’m not running mad. Please... Kev boo... Please...”
I heard him sigh from the other end. “Fine, I’m going to help you but mainly because I’m curious and I hope this comes to an end. You can’t leave the rest of your life worried that he’s out cheating, I told you it’s normal for an Alpha to have a few discretions here and there. Get used to it,”
“Yeah... thank you.” I nodded listlessly.
I wasn’t marrying other Alphas, I was marrying Kai and I expect he would be faithful to me through and through.
The next morning, we followed Kai’s car through the misty forest near the pack’s training grounds. We didn’t go with a car as it would raise suspicions and we kept a good distance away from him, walking through the small shrubs as we followed closely.
Thankfully, at times when we couldn’t meet up, Kevin had an enhanced tracking skill and we didn’t have to bother. He drove for a while, driving deeper into the forest, at some point, he parked the car and continued on foot.
Finally, he stopped in a secluded clearing surrounded by tall pine trees. We watched, still maintaining a careful distance away from him as we hid behind a small bush. He settled on what seemed like a picnic mat and had his face to the track he had just come from as if he was waiting for someone.
Minutes passed and it was just him. I felt Kevin squirming with impatience next to me.
“See, I told you it was nothing. He just came out to meditate. Come on, let’s go.” Kevin whispered.
“There were good spots he could have stopped back there for meditation, there must be a reason why he came down here. Please Kev... another fifteen minutes won’t hurt. If nothing happens by then, we’ll go.”
The words barely left my mouth when a small red car pulled up. I watched as Kai rose to his feet, his usually grumpy face transforming into a huge smile. I’ve never seen him smile so brightly like that.
He walked briskly to the car just as the driver killed the engine and opened the door. Lily emerged, dressed in workout clothes that hugged her supple body, framing every curve despite the anger and the jealousy slowly building inside me, I couldn’t deny she had a beautiful body.
“That’s Lily,” Kevin chuckled from next to me. “What is she doing here dressed like that?”
The same questions I wanted to ask too. Kai’s entire demeanour had changed – the strict Alpha façade had completely melted away, replaced by something softer, more vulnerable.
“You’re late today,” Kai said quietly “I was beginning to think you won’t come.”
“I’m sorry, Coach Jake wanted me to go over and over one defence pose. He’s pushing too hard but I like it. Did you wait for long?”
“Felt like an eternity,” Kai growled and pulled her close as his mouth sought hers. A surprised gasp escaped my lips... thankfully the couples were too busy kissing each other and didn’t hear me.
Their kiss was anything but chaste. Hands roamed, bodies pressed together with an intimacy that left no doubt that this was not the first time they were doing it and a clear indication of the kind of relationship they had.
I watched, still frozen with shock as Kai pressed her against her car, showering her face, and every part of her body with kisses despite Lily’s weak cries that she didn’t get to shower after training.
Kai kissed her as if his life depended on it. His hands roamed freely, possessively... and he wouldn’t even hold hands with me.
Kevin was chuckling beside me.
“It’s so refreshing to see that my uncle likes women. We were worried he had a peculiar taste and he seems to be a good lover, she’s already trembling.”
My hands shook with a mixture of rage and vindication, at least my hunch had been correct.
“Can you help me take some pictures? As much as you can,” I told Kevin quietly.
Kevin shifted uncomfortably. “Maybe we shouldn’t... he’s the Alpha and this is a breach of his privacy.”
“Do I look like I care?” I glared at him. “My mother-in-law needs to know exactly what her precious son is doing.”
Moments later, we left the forest. Before we left, Kai was already undressing Lily, telling her he had missed her so much despite Lily laughing while removing his shirt that they met yesterday.
A knot had settled on my chest and I was trying not to let my emotions get the better of me. How dare Kai cheat on me with that wolfless thing? Was she better than I am? What is so attractive about Lily that Kai has been fixated on her since day one?
“Hey, are you alright? Do you want to talk about it?”
“I’m fine!” I flashed Kevin a small smile.
“Don’t take it to heart, Brie... it’s just like I said, Alphas do this kind of thing all the time but it doesn’t mean anything to them, I promise you. He’ll get tired of her eventually, you’ll see.”
“Only he wouldn’t,” I said quietly. “Send the pictures you took.”
Kevin sighed and did as I demanded. A while later, I stood at one corner of the entrance of the forest, my phone to my ears as I dialled Helen Ryker – Kai’s mother’s number. She answered on the second ring, sounding sleepy.
“Briella dear, is everything alright?”
“No, Luna,” I tried to keep the tears out of my voice. “I don’t think Kai is interested in the alliance between my pack and this pack.”
“What?” her voice became clear instantly. “Did he say so? Don’t mind him, you know how he can be sometimes?”
I laughed biting my lips to stop my tears from flowing. “I sent you something on our chat. Please check it.”
I didn’t wait for her to respond, I ended the call.
