Faint starlight cascaded upon Li Zijun's face. Water droplets clung to the strands of hair on her forehead, slipping drip by drip down to her collarbone. The dampness made her clothes cling to her body, her exquisite figure seeming almost bare, her jade-like arms gently curved, her captivating grace fully revealed.

Her fair hands gently gathered the wet hair at the back of her head. The drenched fabric of her robe outlined her perfect silhouette as she looked somewhat bashfully at Ji Nanjue. The clothing, not yet fully removed, clung tightly to her body. It was semi-transparent in places, revealing hints of flesh. The usually loose-fitting robe had concealed much, but now its true form was unveiled, as if the true face of Mount Lu was only now revealed.

Ji Nanjue watched her with visible surprise, then curled her lips, her tone playful as she spoke, "True to being master and disciple, even your lies are cut from the same cloth... Forget it, if you want to call me 'Sister,' then do so. 'Mistress' does sound a bit too old-fashioned."

"..."

Under the surface, Li Zijun's jade-like legs gently stirred the water, creating ripples and splashes. Then, with a gentle push of her jade-like arms, she stood up without a stitch on. The water barely covered the tops of her thighs, revealing her slender, smooth waist, utterly devoid of excess flesh.

"Take off your clothes. You can't very well bathe in them, can you?"

On the journey thus far, that single robe had accompanied Li Zijun for who knows how long, though it bore no stains. Li Zijun, a bit shy, slipped off her robe and set it on the shore, then immediately sat back down into the pool, concealing herself properly. Ji Nanjue didn't tease her but instead sat down beside her.

The air was heavy; the period before rain always felt especially restless and tense.

Her small hand gently lifted water, allowing it to fall back down, when she suddenly spoke, "You've met him only a few times. How can you be so sure of your feelings?"

"It's normal to have someone you admire at this age, but your behavior doesn't seem like that of an impulsive person."

"I'm very curious. Can you share your thoughts with me?"

Pausing a moment, feeling that her question was indeed somewhat tricky, Ji Nanjue added with a smile, "Of course, it's alright if you'd rather not say..."

As she spoke, her eyes stayed on Li Zijun.

"My thoughts?" Li Zijun gently pursed her lips. Without looking at Ji Nanjue, she murmured softly. Staring into the somewhat murky pool, she pondered for a moment before speaking softly, "Does liking someone always require a reason?"

"Isn't it just that at a certain moment, due to some deep internal stirring, the heart unwittingly begins to carry someone?"

"Perhaps it's just one glance, just a single gesture." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Ji Nanjue was startled. She heard a hint of sadness in Li Zijun's voice, which, despite its gentleness, seemed laden with melancholy. Then she pulled Li Zijun tightly into her embrace, cheek to cheek.

"Love at first sight?"

Ji Nanjue might have scorned this phrase in the past, dismissing it as ridiculous. Two people deciding their affections with just one look usually meant nothing more than lust for physical beauty. But now, her heart was beginning to accept the term. Her life path with Su Bei always intertwined in unexpected ways. When they returned from the brink of death, the emotions cultivated through shared adversity were profoundly deep. Perhaps even before that night, her heart had already imprinted his image, though her long-sealed heart had never admitted it.

"That's true as well," Li Zijun managed a wry smile. It seemed Ji Nanjue had misunderstood her. Her feelings for Su Bei were far from the casual way she described them; it had taken nearly a century of companionship to solidify those feelings.

"Sister Nan Ji, I'm feeling a bit cold..." Li Zijun said softly, hugging her arms and blinking up at Ji Nanjue. "Let's go back."

Ji Nanjue gave her a gentle smile, her heart a tangle of emotions. "You go on ahead. Sh—Sister will stay here alone for a little longer."

Ultimately, she was a woman. Although she knew that she and Su Bei could never openly be together, she still felt an aversion towards any woman who sought to claim a share of the warmth she held dear. Moreover, this woman was his disciple... It was quite the affront, both emotionally and ethically.

A strange thought popped into Ji Nanjue's mind: Su Bei's disciple, her own master... and herself in between? What a complicated relationship... Three generations under one roof, was it?

It's all Su Dudu's fault.

There's no right or wrong in matters of the heart. But if there was any fault, it all stemmed from that heartbreaker. If he hadn't gone around spreading affection indiscriminately, how could he have accumulated such debts of the heart?

He must have been pleased with himself...

Li Zijun waved her hand in front of Ji Nanjue. Ji Nanjue came to her senses, lightly pinched Li Zijun's delicate nose, and smiled. "You've worn that robe for too long. If you don't mind, wear mine for now."

"..."

She pointed to the white gauze dress on the shore.

Li Zijun blinked, then gave Ji Nanjue a sweet smile.

With a soft RUSTLE, she put on the dress and headed towards the Daoist Temple.

Ji Nanjue watched Li Zijun's departing figure, exhaling softly.
