All My Superpowers Come from the Law of Causality-Chapter 102: The Fifth Superpower
Around nine o’clock.
Inside Marriott Mall in the city center.
Marriott Mall is the most upscale shopping complex in Lening City, featuring flagship stores of many luxury brands. According to statistics, the average spending per person here exceeds two thousand yuan.
Ordinary wage earners wanting to shop here would have to spend at least a month’s salary and could only afford the most basic items.
To buy some mid-range goods, it would cost them dearly, and they would be eating dirt for several months.
Su Xin confidently walked to the men’s section on the third floor and entered a clothing store.
"Welcome!"
A young woman in a dark blue professional skirt and light makeup greeted him proactively, wearing a smile as warm as spring.
Su Xin didn’t even glance at her, nor did he pause his steps. His gaze swept over the clothes on each rack. He then pointed at two pieces of clothing and said blandly:
"This one, this one, wrap them up for me."
Although the young woman was surprised by Su Xin’s quick decision to buy, she didn’t show it, merely giving a gentle smile:
"Okay, sir, the prices of these two pieces are fifty-eight thousand yuan and twenty-six thousand six hundred yuan, respectively, totaling eighty-four thousand..."
Before she could finish speaking, Su Xin impatiently waved his hand:
"Just wrap them up."
"Okay, then what size do you need, sir? Would you like to try them on first?"
"No need, they’re for my dad."
Su Xin replied casually, then suddenly seemed to remember something and asked:
"By the way, my dad is a company owner, forty-three this year. He usually wears clothes like these; they’re suitable, right?"
The young saleswoman smiled:
"Sir, you certainly have filial piety and great taste. These clothes are quite stylish. Suitable for teenagers, making them appear mature and steady; also for someone in their forties, making them look full of vitality."
"Since your father is an entrepreneur, he likely maintains himself well, and although in his forties, he should still look youthful. This attire should be just right."
Su Xin casually nodded:
"Alright, wrap them up."
Su Xin took out his bank card and accompanied the saleswoman to the cashier, swiftly completing the payment.
The young saleswoman’s smile grew more radiant as she politely packed the clothes for Su Xin and walked him out of the store.
"Ding! [Truth and Lies] Progress +1."
Su Xin smiled slightly.
In the absence of vested interests, most people actually trust others easily.
Just like when we see a young person spending lavishly on the street, nobody typically suspects that they’re pretending to be rich.
But if the person starts using their affluent facade to approach you after their spending spree, you might doubt their intentions, thinking they’re just posing as wealthy for ulterior motives.
Thus, when Su Xin entered the store and shopped lavishly, the staff might not necessarily believe him to be truly affluent, as this approach to wooing people isn’t unheard of.
Only after Su Xin decisively paid and swiftly left, entering another nearby store shortly after, the store employee fully believed he was genuinely wealthy.
Of course.
Some people are very skeptical, maintaining doubt regardless of their vested interests, never fully trusting anything.
After leaving the store, Su Xin visited several other shops, employing the same ostentatious tactics, boasting about his affluent status.
Some believed him, some did not.
It wasn’t until Su Xin browsed through ten stores in total, spending one hundred and twenty thousand yuan overall, that he accumulated the remaining seven points of task progress, completing the task.
"Ding! Congratulations to the host, the task [Truth and Lies] is completed. You have earned an opportunity to awaken a supernatural ability, would you like to use it?"
Su Xin grinned lightly.
"Use it!"
"Ding! Awakened supernatural ability [Self-Deception]"
[Self-Deception LV1: Close your eyes for more than three seconds to enter Stealth State.]
Su Xin did not upgrade the ability immediately but quickly returned to the eleven stores where he had previously shopped, aiming to return all the purchased goods before the mall closed.
The act was complete.
The task was accomplished too.
There was no utility in keeping these items worth over a hundred thousand yuan.
As for the disdain from some store clerks when returning items, Su Xin didn’t care, knowing well that his behavior was slightly obnoxious.
Due to unpleasant disputes during the return process, Su Xin left the mall just before the ten o’clock closing time.
On the way back home.
Sitting in the back seat of a taxi, Su Xin closed his eyes, intending to relax while exploring how to upgrade the Self-Deception ability. Yet recalling its mechanism, he realized that closing his eyes for three seconds would trigger the ability.
So, he promptly opened his eyes.
While gazing out of the window, he pondered the effects of the Self-Deception ability.
The ability description is quite simple: close your eyes for three seconds to enter a Stealth State.
But what exactly does this Stealth State entail?
Is it optical invisibility?
Or does it lower his presence such that people subconsciously overlook his existence?
Does movement affect its efficacy?
This series of questions is why Su Xin hasn’t upgraded the ability yet, as each upgrade presents two different traits for him to choose from.
Only by thoroughly understanding the ability’s effects, knowing its significant drawbacks, can he make the most suitable choice.
Back at home.
Su Xin locked his room and swiftly began experimenting with the Self-Deception ability.
He activated the video recording function on his phone, placing it on the dining table, leaning it against an electric kettle, and pointing the lens toward the living room.
Then he stepped into the living room area.
Closing his eyes, he silently counted to three.
In his perception, everything remained unchanged, yet he knew the ability had successfully activated and he was now in Stealth State.
"What use is this stealth?"
"I can’t see others, and they can’t see me. It seems its practicality emerges only after upgrading."
Su Xin thought idly, cautiously sidestepping through the living room, slowly speeding up, turning his movement into strides, with increasingly heavier steps and louder footfalls, until he bumped into a wall and begrudgingly halted.
Upon opening his eyes, Su Xin couldn’t help but rub his forehead before returning to the dining table to grab his phone, ending the recording, and playing it.
In the video, he saw himself calmly enter the living room, close his eyes, and after three seconds elapsed, his figure abruptly vanished from the video frame.
A few seconds later, increasingly noticeable footsteps echoed in the video, continuing until the very end when a muffled "thud" arose from the wall, and roughly a second after, he reappeared upon opening his eyes.
