Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Encounter with the Wyrm

The creature before him was enormous, yet it moved with a strange, almost delicate grace that didn’t match its size. Its scales were pale and shimmering with light, illuminating the darkness around.

Brand frowned.

Calling it a demon felt completely off. The typical demonic appearance he had in mind, the ominous and grotesque one, was absent.

Instead, this creature was graceful and elegant. Strands of white silk would accompany its movement. Even the small movements it made felt like an eloquent dance.

The dark, foreboding feeling he had felt upon opening his eyes in this place vanished, replaced by awe and wonder.

Naturally, he wanted to know more about this creature, so he activated his Cyborg Eye to check on it.

However, all he could check was the creature’s species.

[??? - Lv. ??? (Wyrm)]

’Wyrm... an ancient dragon...?’

Brand’s awe momentarily filled him with a sense of reassurance.

’Maybe the wyrm was different... an ally in disguise?

For a fleeting moment, hope fluttered within him, cherishing a possibility that the creature did not have malicious intent.

However, the feeling of admiration soon shifted to nervousness once he realized his always-reliable skill didn’t work. His Cyborg Eye’s failure to extract more information snapped him back to reality, reminding him of the hidden dangers.

The feeling of admiration shifted to nervousness once he realized his always-reliable skill didn’t work.

’Was the ability sealed or weakened because of the nature of this realm?’

He tried to activate his Scarab Shell over his hand as a precaution, in case there were ambushes launched on him. The traumatic experience he faced in the ancient ruin back then has haunted him even now.

However, the skill was not working. Not only the Scarab Shell, but even the other skills he had were not activating. Debuff Cubes, Might, Haste, and other stat enhancement skills were also not activating.

Not one of them works.

A cold dread settled in his chest after he realized that the abilities that helped him survive in this world were sealed. For a moment, he felt as if he had returned to the chamber, being chained, and he had no control over his fate.

The same feeling he had back then crept in. He felt the same hopelessness, as if nothing had changed.

Now, he could only hope that the entity had no ill intention toward him.

He was still unsure of what the entity wanted from him.

’Summoning me into this space, but saying nothing but aura farming?’

"What did you need from me? What should I find for you?"

He tried to communicate with the ancient dragon again. The dragon looked at him, its head descending slowly with deliberate movements. Its eyes locked onto him with almost a benevolent gaze.

There’s a weird feeling that he had, as if the dragon was seeing through him. The dragon seemed to penetrate his mind, memories, and even his soul.

While he was deep in contemplation, a voice echoed in his mind.

’You do not belong here.’

The moment he heard the words, he cringed. This was the third time he had heard this since he came into this world.

’Do I have such bad luck in encounters?’

Seraphine did not come with him into this realm ruled by the Wyrm, making him more mindful of his response than ever. No guiding voice, all the consequences of actions were on him.

Even if the little angel didn’t give him the exact answers, more often than not, the directions she pointed out were always beneficial for him.

I have been relying on her more than I thought, now that we’re separated. This is the first time I’m on my own.’

His heart raced as the realization sank in. Throughout his journey in this world, Seraphine had always been there... teasing, guiding, and warning him.

But now, in this dimension, he was truly by himself.

’Could the Wyrm have stronger authority than Seraphine?’

If Seraphine, who served Seraphim—the being that was able to pull him across worlds—couldn’t enter...

’Maybe because this is the Demon Realm?’

But even as he thought about it, a wave of doubt washed over him. His confidence wavered, uncertainty gnawing at his previous assumption.

’No... I don’t even know if this is still the Demon Realm.’

This place might not even be the Den of Worm as he speaks. The best scenario for him would be that the worm statue transported him to a realm inside it, allowing him to return soon after speaking with the wyrm. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

’Not answering? So cheeky...’

"I’m not sure what you mean!" His survival instinct kicked in, and he quickly replied. He chose to play dumb to see how much the creature knows.

—BOOM!!!

He felt the whole dimension was shaking. The black lake lifted into the air along with him. It felt as though the space had been turned upside down.

The Wyrm looked visibly annoyed and asked again.

’You had the lingering smell of... that woman.’

"That...?" He thought he had heard it wrong, but the Wyrm was addressing Seraphine? Or Seraphim?

’Doesn’t matter... what I need now is you...’

In a negotiation, the moment the person reveals their needs first, they will usually be the one who is at a disadvantage. However, none of it matters if your life is viewed as a pebble.

’The Wyrm clearly needed something from me... But I have yet to know what it is.’

No matter if the Wyrm was referring to Seraphine or Seraphim, it talked as if they were equal.

He could just hope that it was not Seraphim, because that would imply that he would have no further ground of negotiation and could only obey.

Such was the fate of a mortal before an entity like Seraphim, the angelic being at the highest tier of authority.

’You... do not belong to this world!’

Brand felt his heart sink, as the Wyrm announced it without any hint of hesitation or doubt. He was now at the mercy of the ancient dragon.
