After Rebirth, the Celebrity Daughter is the Medical Expert!-Chapter 45: No Peace This New Year (Part 3)
When Ning Yi came downstairs again, he was completely refreshed.
He had taken a shower, washed his hair, shaved, and changed into a clean set of new clothes.
"Are you hungry? I can have someone bring you a bowl of soup," Gu Xihuo said, satisfied to see her son all tidied up.
"I’m not hungry. I ate on the road at noon." Ning Yi squeezed in next to his daughter.
After adjusting his posture and feeling a bit cramped, he directly picked up his daughter to sit on his lap.
After tidying up, Young Master Ning’s skin was a bit darker and he was a bit thinner, but he appeared more composed than before.
Still the same strikingly handsome young man.
"Daddy is so good-looking," little Youyou, who was always generous with compliments to beautiful people, exclaimed.
"The baby is also beautiful," Young Master Ning’s eyes crinkled with joy.
Ning Shizhao and Gu Xihuo, seeing their son and granddaughter so affectionate, felt even more determined in their hearts.
"Youyou, take your sister and brother to your toy room to play," Gu Xihuo suggested to the children to leave.
You Guang knew they had something to discuss, so he took Fang Han and Fang Huai to the toy room.
Once the three children were out of sight, Gu Xihuo took a sip of tea and asked Ning Yi.
"Pipi, you know Xia Youqing is in a relationship, right?"
"Yeah, I know." Ning Yi nodded.
"So, what do you think?"
"Ex-wife in a relationship, what can an ex-husband say?" Ning Yi looked at his mom in exasperation.
His mom was frustrated for three seconds.
"Alright, let’s be serious," Gu Xihuo glared at her son, "I’m asking you, what do you plan to do about the child?"
"What do you mean, do about it?" Ning Yi was completely confused.
"Do you want Youyou to call someone else dad in the future?"
"Of course not." Young Master Ning wouldn’t tolerate such words.
"Then that’s it," Gu Xihuo said, "We plan to bring the child back, what do you think?"
Ning Yi thought for a moment: "I don’t have a problem, but we still need to ask for Youyou’s opinion."
"What does a child know? Can’t we adults just decide?" Ning Shizhao said.
"Dad, you don’t understand. My daughter is different; she’s not an ordinary child." Ning Yi sighed, but the pride in his eyes and brows was obvious to anyone.
Everyone was speechless; they hadn’t noticed before how much of a daughter complex their son (or brother) had.
"Oh, how is she different? Tell your sister," Ning Xian said, amused by her brother’s proud look.
"She’s particularly smart and independent."
"Which child these days isn’t smart and independent? Our Hanhan is also very independent."
"The independence of our baby is different from Hanhan’s. So, regarding her matters, I can’t make the decisions for her, I have to respect her thoughts. That’s our agreement."
Ning Yi knew his family didn’t spend much time with his daughter and didn’t really understand her, so when he said this, his tone was much more serious.
He also wanted to make his attitude clear to the family.
He was very careful about respecting his daughter, and he hoped the family would respect everything between him and his daughter.
"So, you mean, if we want to bring the child back, we have to see what the child thinks?" Ning Shizhao was a bit baffled.
"Yes."
"So if the child doesn’t want to come back, we can’t do anything?" Gu Xihuo thought her son was being a bit facetious.
"Yes, if Youyou doesn’t want to come back, we can’t force her."
"What if she follows her mother to remarry?" Gu Xihuo’s tone was no longer calm.
"She won’t." Ning Yi was silent for a moment and then said.
"You’re that sure?"
"Yes." Ning Yi’s tone was slightly lower, "She won’t follow me either."
The more time he spent with his daughter, the more he realized how independent she was, unlike a child.
He had a feeling that if his daughter weren’t still so young, she wouldn’t be living in the Xia household, nor would she follow anyone.
She would live alone, and she could live alone.
She was clearly very obedient, yet it seemed she was naturally detached from the family, without being tied to them or dependent on them.
He occasionally thought in the quiet of the night, "How did we end up as parents? Why does the little one have such a mature and independent soul?"
This wasn’t something any adult could have taught her.
She seemed to have been born that way, independent and free.
"There’s no point in trying to ask her alone without me, she won’t be coming back for now, and you don’t have to worry about her changing with her mom around, she won’t."
This was the third time Ning Yi spoke to his family in such a serious tone.
The first time was when he wanted to apply to the film academy to become a director.
The second time was when he was about to become a dad.
The third time was now.
Young Master Ning might have a casual demeanor most of the time, but the family knew that once he got serious, no one could sway his decisions.
Gu Xihuo listened to her son, not fully able to dismiss her concerns and worries.
"You’re so sure nothing will happen with Youyou in the future, but children are impressionable and easily influenced by adults, how can I be at ease with Xia Youqing like this now?"
"Mom, I know you’re worried about Youyou, but I can’t disrespect her, I’ve already failed her enough." Ning Yi sighed.
"Alright, then we’ll wait a while," Ning Shizhao decided.
"I’ve seen that Youyou is well cared for at her grandfather’s, and Qingqing, as a divorced and economically independent single woman, seeking a relationship is quite normal," Ning Wan remarked fairly.
"So, this means there’s nothing we can do for now?" Gu Xihuo was frustrated.
"For now, yes, we’ll wait and see if anything comes up later, we can discuss it then." Ning Shizhao said.
When little Youyou came back to the living room again, she found her grandmother’s face still wasn’t looking too good, but that gaze lingering on her, as if wanting to say something but holding back, was gone.
...
On New Year’s Eve.
The Ning family, according to old customs, stayed up until midnight.
These days, every household would watch the Spring Festival Gala and play mahjong on New Year’s Eve.
Gu Xihuo loved playing mahjong.
The family knew her mood hadn’t been great lately, so after New Year’s Eve dinner, Ning Wan, Ning Yi, and Ning Shizhao had the butler set up the mahjong table to keep her company.
In the spacious and luxurious living room, the large color TV was bustling with noise, the mahjong tiles clacked, and finally, the Ning family felt the New Year’s atmosphere.
As the mahjong game began, Ning Yi and Ning Wan both tried hard to let their mother win.
After several consecutive wins, Gu Xihuo finally had a smile on her face.
She knew quite well her son and daughter were intentionally losing to make her win.
They were doing everything they could to cheer her up; whatever her previous mood was, she couldn’t keep a stern face throughout the New Year.
She took the opportunity to let go.
Since reincarnating back from the future, You Guang had long lost interest in the Spring Festival Gala.
She also didn’t like playing mahjong.
After sitting in the living room for a while, she returned to her room to read.
Ning Yi was at the mahjong table, but his mind was on his daughter. Seeing her leave, he soon had the butler take his place and turned to his daughter’s room.
