After Rebirth, I Married the Great Demon King-Chapter 456: Beauties with Tragic Fates
"Kidnapped." Wen Lin chuckled lightly. She had never personally experienced kidnapping, but as someone from a wealthy family, she had seen children around her face such ordeals.
She wanted to see Yun Shifei’s panic-stricken reaction.
Such a delicate flower nurtured in a greenhouse—it would only take a little wind and rain to scare her senseless, wouldn’t it?
But in the end, Wen Lin was disappointed. Like her, Yun Shifei remained extraordinarily calm.
She even reassured her, "Don’t worry. Judging by how they look, they’re only after money; they won’t hurt us."
Wen Lin thought to herself, it seems her mental fortitude is quite strong. Her thoughts mirrored Yun Shifei’s.
These people were clearly after wealth and had likely been watching her for a long time, only now finding the opportunity to strike.
For someone accustomed to tumult like Wen Lin, this didn’t feel like a big deal.
However, being trapped in such a place still made her uncomfortable.
As she thought about it, Wen Lin turned to Yun Shifei and said, "They’re not here right now. How about we try to escape?"
Yun Shifei glanced around at the surroundings. Though the kidnappers weren’t presently there, who could say where they had gone? Since she knew that in her past life Wen Lin had emerged safely, all she needed to do was wait until someone rescued them.
Yun Shifei didn’t know whether unexpected changes might occur later, but for now, it seemed these men had the lust but not the guts.
By tomorrow, the Wen Family would likely send someone to retrieve Wen Lin.
So she said, "It’s better if we wait here. Who knows if someone might be watching us from the shadows."
Upon hearing this, Wen Lin laughed. She had expected this—Yun Shifei being a coward. See? Despite having such a good opportunity to escape, she insisted on hiding here like a mouse. How shameful.
But Wen Lin didn’t care. She wanted to show Yun Shifei her boldness and ingenuity, proving who truly deserved to stand beside Cheng Lie.
That person was undeniably her.
However, her hands and feet were bound. If she wanted to escape this wretched place, she had to untie the ropes first.
Yun Shifei’s hands and feet were also tied, but with the two of them, they could at least help free one another.
Wen Lin looked at Yun Shifei and said, "Help me loosen my ropes, will you?"
Seeing Wen Lin resolutely set on leaving, Yun Shifei didn’t want to argue further. Maybe Wen Lin was right—if the two of them escaped together, there might still be a sliver of hope.
In any case, if Wen Lin was going to leave, Yun Shifei had no choice but to go with her.
So, they shifted their positions to sit back-to-back as Yun Shifei worked on Wen Lin’s ropes.
The coarse hemp rope wasn’t as easy to untie as imagined. The kidnappers had likely tied it tightly to prevent them from escaping. Yun Shifei twisted her neck to look at the knots while exerting all her strength.
The stubborn knot seemed unyielding, and Yun Shifei had to use every ounce of energy she had before it loosened slightly.
Wen Lin’s wrists began to ache from Yun Shifei’s forceful tugging. She frowned and said, "Take it easy."
Her hands were already swollen.
Upon hearing Wen Lin’s complaint, Yun Shifei replied, "How about you untie mine first? I don’t mind the pain."
Her fingers were almost bleeding from trying to loosen Wen Lin’s ropes, and yet Wen Lin was bothered by a little discomfort?
Yun Shifei felt a surge of anger.
Still, she knew this wasn’t the time to argue. She patiently focused on freeing Wen Lin’s ties despite her irritation.
Time was their life-saving opportunity now. They had no idea when the kidnappers would return, so staying here wasn’t an option.
Once freed, Wen Lin appeared much more relieved. She glanced at Yun Shifei and asked, "You just mentioned you were planning to stay here, right?"
Seeing her tilt her head and smile humorously, Yun Shifei felt a sudden jolt of panic. Could she have been deceived?
"How about you stay here and stall for time? When they see you, they probably won’t bother looking for me."
As she spoke, Wen Lin flashed Yun Shifei a dazzling smile—the first time Yun Shifei had seen such an expression on Wen Lin’s face.
The smile contained joy, sunshine, and even a touch of relief—something utterly inappropriate for the situation.
The sight of it sent a shiver down Yun Shifei’s spine, leaving her overcome with dread.
For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, Wen Lin felt a twisted satisfaction in leaving Yun Shifei to face impending disaster. Maybe it meant Cheng Lie would finally belong to her alone.
With this thought, Wen Lin offered Yun Shifei one final remark.
"Shi Fei, you’re very beautiful. But do you know? A girl who has nothing but beauty—what a tragic existence. Beauty fades quickly."
With that, Wen Lin turned and walked away, leaving Yun Shifei sitting there in a daze.
Her hands and feet were still bound, and her heart grew cold, as if she couldn’t believe such people existed in this world.
No, in fact, she had experienced betrayal in her past life too.
Yet, living a second life, she still wanted to believe in the goodness of humanity.
But human nature cannot be tested. Wen Lin was living proof of this.
Yun Shifei’s understanding of Wen Lin was limited, though her memories painted her as an impressive young woman—a role model for many girls.
And yet now...
Yun Shifei didn’t know what to think. Was this madness brought on by love?
After parting ways with Yun Shifei, Wen Lin descended the mountains. It was late at night, and the forested slopes were pitch black, obscuring everything.
Every now and then, something streaked past her, startling her.
She had no idea what it was.
In such an eerie wilderness, snakes and rats were inevitable.
She thought of the Yun Shifei she had left behind—the look in her eyes, filled with disbelief.
Initially, revenge had felt exhilarating for Wen Lin. But now, guilt and regret began to creep in.
If she had untied her, Yun Shifei might have hoped she would return to save her. And yet, Wen Lin’s darker instincts had taken over, driving her to abandon Yun Shifei entirely.
As doubts gnawed at her, Wen Lin debated whether to turn back for Yun Shifei.
But what if she were caught upon return? That would spell her death for sure.
Forget it—better to reach civilization and send someone back for her later.
Her phone and belongings had been taken by the kidnappers.
Just as Wen Lin mulled it over, a sudden light appeared ahead. Startled, she quickly ducked behind a nearby tree, crouching low to hide in its shadow, lest she be discovered.

"This place is way too remote. Wanting decent food requires traveling so far," muttered a man as he walked along.
"Having anything to eat is already lucky. Check on those two girls first," said the man named Brother Hai.
When they returned to the original spot and saw that only Yun Shifei was there, they frowned.
"What’s going on?"
