After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 38: Taking a Bath
Although the influencer who had led her fans to cyberbully Jessie in the comments section received her due punishment after the incident, to this day, that person has completely disappeared from the internet.
But from that day on, Jessie never posted comments online again.
It was her first time realizing how easily she could become a target of cyberbullying, even though she hadn’t really done anything wrong.
Now, Jessie was looking at her with a pitiful expression. Lynn didn’t know what to say.
"I thought you didn’t really use this app anymore? Why so many comments all of a sudden?" Lynn asked casually.
She had been wondering if Jessie had accidentally provoked another thin-skinned influencer with a carefully crafted persona. To her surprise, the young woman beside her whispered, "I have no idea."
Jessie genuinely had no clue. To prove her innocence, she even held her hands up in surrender toward Lynn. "I didn’t do anything! I haven’t even had time to scroll through the app recently..."
’I’m at a total loss, okay?’
The way people attack each other online is so vicious. It made her really uncomfortable just reading it.
Lynn patted her on the head with one hand while taking the phone Jessie had shoved into her own. She tapped the little red dot in the top right corner of the comments section.
"So this is really her account? The IP location checks out."
"Oh my god, you netizens are basically Sherlock Holmes. You actually managed to find her out of everyone online just from her nails. Sherlock himself would be impressed."
"Finished reading through her old posts. She’s so low-key, I couldn’t dig up any useful info... How awkward."
"So, what’s her relationship with the Morgan Group in Aethelburg? Is she a Morgan? She was so cool today! I’ve been sick of those out-of-control fans online for ages. This is how you shut them down! Love it! Followed!"
Lynn was confused at first, but as she scrolled through the comments, more information came to light, and she began to understand what was happening.
"So? What is it?" Jessie asked from the side, practically bouncing with a mix of curiosity and fear.
Lynn turned to her and handed back the phone. "See for yourself. No one’s cursing you out."
Jessie took it, skeptical. If no one was randomly cursing her out, why would she have so many notifications?
"I was just looking," Lynn explained. "The Morgan Group’s legal department’s official account posted a list with a full page of names. They’ve already filed the paperwork with the court to sue them. Victor Morgan is suing the rabid fans who attacked you online that day. And that influencer, the one who first posted your photo from the fashion show? Her account was banned. Now there isn’t a single photo of you anywhere online, which just made the netizens more curious."
"That recent post of yours, wasn’t it a picture taken in an apartment? Your hand was in the shot. Some netizen figured out that your manicure is exactly the same as the one on the lady in the black dress from the fashion show. Tsk, these people must be looking at things under a microscope!" Lynn finished her explanation. "So now, a bunch of people are flocking to your page to see what’s up."
Jessie asked, "That’s it?"
"Yep, that’s it," Lynn nodded.
Jessie found it incredible. She had suddenly gained the affection of strangers online for no apparent reason.
’But... it’s so easy for people online to either love you or hate you, isn’t it?’
Jessie thought to herself. She then realized she had suddenly gone from being a nobody with just over a hundred followers to a minor influencer with several thousand.
And the follower count was still climbing at a visibly rapid pace.
She looked at the photo she had just taken on her phone, thought for a moment, and posted it anyway.
’This is my account. Why should I care about what other people think? I’ll post whatever I want.’
As for all the curious comments and private messages, Jessie ignored them all and even disabled her direct messages.
"Why did it turn into a lawsuit?" Jessie muttered. "I never asked him to file a lawsuit..."
Lynn thought that orange-flavored soft cookies and iced Americanos were the perfect combination. She was getting a little hooked on it; she’d already polished off half the cookies without even noticing.
Hearing Jessie’s muttering, Lynn couldn’t help but chime in, "You didn’t ask him to scrub the internet for you in the first place, either, did you? But President Morgan still did it without a word."
Jessie was speechless.
Lynn added, "We don’t do humblebragging here."
Jessie was speechless.
Jessie really wanted to message Victor Morgan and ask him what was going on, but considering it was the middle of the night back home, she decided against it. She waited until evening her time before finally sending him a message.
"Did you really have your legal department sue all those people online? Isn’t that a bit of a hassle?"
Victor had actually gotten up even earlier than Jessie imagined. When Jessie sent the message, he was already sitting in his office.
When he saw Jessie’s message, Victor called her directly.
At that moment, Jessie was still taking a bubble bath. When she saw the incoming call suddenly appear on her phone screen, she jumped and almost threw the phone right into the bathtub.
’Why is he calling?!’
’Wasn’t just texting good enough for our relationship?’
In a fluster, Jessie answered the call.
"Hello?"
At that moment, Jessie felt as if the world around her had gone still.
She didn’t even dare to move, terrified of making some strange sound on her end.
"Uh, hello..." Jessie cleared her throat and said, a little awkwardly, "Why did you call me all of a sudden?" A hint of dissatisfaction tinged her voice.
’I wasn’t ready for this at all!’
Victor asked, "Do you have a cold?"
Jessie shook her head. "No, I just didn’t expect you to suddenly call me..."
As she spoke, she reached out and played with the bubbles in front of her.
"I figured since you were messaging now, you probably weren’t asleep yet. I thought if there was something to discuss, calling would be more direct and convenient," Victor explained, then asked, "You don’t like it?"
Jessie was speechless.
’Of course. How could a hopelessly straightforward guy like Victor Morgan possibly call for a reason like missing her? This man clearly had to calculate the simplest, most efficient way to handle things.’ 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
After a moment of stunned silence, Jessie said, "No."
Victor was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office. Outside was a dense cluster of office buildings. This was Aethelburg’s most prosperous business district, and everyone seemed to be bustling with activity.
He was usually very busy as well, with a mountain of work, but he handled everything with relative ease.
But now, Victor was a little uncertain.
At least, when talking to Jessie, he wasn’t so confident in his ability to read her emotions.
