Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Stay

After the meal, Victor Morgan made a phone call. A short while later, someone from the kitchen downstairs brought up a small cart.

It was filled with all sorts of fruits.

"For me?" Jessie patted her tummy. She was actually already quite full.

Victor nodded. "I’ll be a little while longer. Will you wait for me here?"

He wasn’t actually sure if Jessie planned to leave after her meal or wait for him so they could go home together.

But rather than leaving the choice to Jessie, Victor would much rather things went the way he wanted.

He wanted Jessie to stay.

Even though he knew the family’s driver was still downstairs waiting for Jessie, he wanted to keep her there with him.

Jessie said, "Waiting for you is so boring!"

She had already seen pretty much everything in his office. Aside from a few art pieces, the rest was all standard and conventional. There was nothing to play with and no way to relax besides doing more work.

’No way!’

"There’s a bedroom in here," Victor said. "It has a projector, so if you want to watch a show, you can go in there."

After a moment’s thought, Victor upped the ante. "There’s all this fruit, and if you don’t like it, there’s a convenience store right next to the cafeteria. Whatever snacks or drinks you’re in the mood for, I can have someone bring them up."

As he spoke, Victor led Jessie through a hidden door to the side.

If you didn’t look closely from the outside, it was almost impossible to notice there was a bedroom hidden here.

The room wasn’t very large, only about twenty to thirty square meters.

It had a small bathroom and a closet, a 1.5-meter-wide bed, a small sofa, and a projector screen mounted on the wall for watching movies.

"If you’re tired, you can also rest for a bit," Victor said.

Jessie: "..."

’This man is so devious,’ she thought. ’Isn’t this just blatant temptation?’

But she was in a good mood today. "Alright, fine." Jessie nodded. "I suppose I can force myself to stay and keep you company. Go ahead and call my driver and tell him to head home for now."

When Victor saw Jessie nod, a smile involuntarily touched his lips.

"Alright."

He watched as Jessie wandered around the break room, curiously observing this new territory she had never explored before.

"What do you want to watch? Or would you rather get some rest?" Victor asked.

Jessie replied, "Let’s watch TV. I can do some ’market research’ of my own!"

Victor knew she was just talking nonsense, but he didn’t call her out on it. He just nodded. "Alright, I’ll get it started for you."

However, the man who had just offered to serve Jessie ended up spending ages just looking for the power switch.

Jessie watched the well-dressed man rummaging around the room and couldn’t help but laugh. "I can tell just by looking at you that you’ve never used this projector."

Victor didn’t deny it. He hadn’t been the one to arrange the break room’s furnishings, nor was he the type of person who would watch TV during a break from work. He simply wasn’t that idle.

If Jessie hadn’t come over today, the projector probably would have never seen any use. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Victor had previously thought it was rather pointless, but now, it seemed to be a decent feature after all.

’At least it could convince his wife to stay.’

After getting the projector running and putting on the show Jessie wanted to watch, Victor checked with her one more time, "Are you sure you don’t want any snacks? Or a drink? Ice cream?"

Jessie shook her head like a rattle. She had already eaten so much tonight; there was no way she was going to let Victor tempt her into eating more snacks.

’Otherwise, how fat would she get?’

"Are you doing this on purpose?" Jessie huffed. "Trying to fatten me up? If so, hmph!"

Victor said, "Mhm. You’re too thin. You should eat more. You’d look better with a little more meat on your bones."

Jessie: "!"

’It’s a male conspiracy! I won’t fall for it!’

Jessie waved her hand, shooing Victor away to get back to work. She wanted to watch her show and wasn’t going to waste any more time bantering with him.

Having been kicked out by his own wife, Victor stood at the doorway and let out a soft chuckle. He then looked down and tapped a few things on his phone. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door.

Keegan Sanders wheeled in a small cart.

It held not only all sorts of snacks but also the cafeteria’s highly-praised, charcoal-grilled beef and lamb, along with freshly squeezed juice made from the latest seasonal fruits.

Victor brought it all in to Jessie.

When he returned to his desk, Victor looked at the documents before him and, for the first time, wondered if he had too much work on his plate.

’Otherwise, at a time like this, he should clearly be by Jessie’s side.’

By the time Victor finally finished working overtime, it was nearly ten o’clock.

He pushed open the door to the break room, ready to tell Jessie it was time to go home, but the moment he did, he saw that she had fallen asleep.

The show was still playing on the screen, but the woman on the small sofa was already fast asleep, hugging a throw pillow.

Seeing this, Victor moved as quietly as possible.

As Jessie groggily sensed light and shadow flit across her face, she opened her eyes to the sight of Victor’s sharp, clean-cut jawline.

The moment she stirred, she realized she was already in the car.

"Awake now?" Victor’s voice sounded beside her.

Jessie was still groggy. She had no idea at what point she’d fallen asleep watching TV. Clearly, when Victor came out of his office, he hadn’t woken her up but had carried her straight to the car instead.

"Mmm, why didn’t you wake me?" Jessie mumbled.

Victor replied, "You were sleeping so soundly."

He had originally planned to drive home himself. But after he’d settled Jessie in the back seat, the arms she had wrapped around his neck refused to let go.

Left with no choice, Victor had to call a driver to come over.

Jessie was lucid for a moment before she couldn’t help but yawn, still looking very sleepy.

Victor gently pressed on her shoulder, letting her lean against him. "Go back to sleep. I’ll wake you when we get home."

Jessie hummed in response and fell back asleep in Victor’s embrace.

In her hazy state, Jessie thought, ’This is all Victor’s fault. After all, who was it that was getting up to no good in the office earlier?’

’It felt amazing, but it was also exhausting.’

’Even though she wasn’t the one doing all the work.’

The next day, Jessie had plans to attend a class reunion with Mrs. Morgan.

On the way to the reunion, Jessie sat in the back seat, chatting with Wendy Lawson.

Ever since they had learned that Liam Lawson had been colluding with people from Thorne Pictures, Wendy Lawson and the other social media influencers who had been at the party that day had all posted videos to help clear Jessie’s name.

It was a gesture Jessie hadn’t expected, and their combined influence was far greater than she could have ever anticipated.

She had wanted to thank them properly, but Wendy had already left Paris by then.
