After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 144: Going Skiing
Jessie Sterling couldn’t resist sending Quincy Sterling a "good boy" meme, but Quincy mercilessly ignored her.
Handling Apex Films wasn’t urgent. A company that big wasn’t about to go bankrupt overnight, anyway.
For the next little while, Jessie Sterling was swamped.
She had to attend the Sterling Bank annual party, and she also had to appear at the Morgan Group’s annual party as Victor Morgan’s wife.
It was the first time since their wedding that she and Victor would be appearing together at such a formal event, so it was naturally a big deal.
By the time both companies’ annual parties were over, it was New Year’s Eve.
On New Year’s Eves past, Jessie Sterling just had to stay home, lazing around in bed and waiting for dinner to be served. But this year was different. She had to visit not only her own family but her in-laws as well for the holiday.
She was shuttling back and forth between both families, and on top of that, she and Victor Morgan both had gatherings with friends to attend. By the time the whirlwind of activity was mostly over, it was already the third day of the Lunar New Year.
That night, Jessie Sterling lay in bed. Victor Morgan had accompanied her to Southaven to see her parents and friends that day, and now, somehow, the man still seemed to be full of energy. He’d even brought his laptop to bed and was looking at something.
Lying beside Victor Morgan, Jessie Sterling nudged him with her foot.
"What are we doing tomorrow?" Jessie asked.
They’d been busy for the better part of two weeks. She’d never had such an exhausting New Year holiday.
She had no desire to attend another banquet or party anytime soon.
She planned to decline all unimportant family invitations. If she couldn’t, Jessie was prepared to dump them all on Victor Morgan and let him deal with it. In any case, she wasn’t lifting a finger.
’I’m just going to vegetate!’
Victor Morgan said, "Booking a hotel."
"Huh?" Jessie turned her head, looking at him in surprise. "What hotel?"
"Last year, didn’t I promise I’d take you skiing in the Aridlands over the holiday if we had time? Want to go?" Victor asked.
It took Jessie two seconds to process what he was saying. Then she shrieked.
"Skiing in the Aridlands?!" Jessie never imagined that this was what Victor was doing on his laptop. "Really?!" Her eyes sparkled.
Victor glanced at her, amused, and turned the laptop screen toward her so she could clearly see the hotel booking page. "Really."
"Wow!" Jessie exclaimed. "Just the two of us?"
Victor thought for a moment. "If you want to invite some friends, that’s fine too."
A moment ago, Jessie had been determined not to lift a finger, but now she was suddenly buzzing with energy.
"Then I’ll ask Lynn and Quincy if they want to go," Jessie said.
Lynn Jennings hadn’t gone home for New Year’s Eve dinner this year. Or rather, she had gone, but she left not long after and went straight back to her own apartment. If Jessie hadn’t called to wish her a happy new year, no one would have known she was all alone. In the end, Quincy had to drive over and bring her to the Sterling family’s home.
But Lynn had gone back to her apartment on the second day of the New Year.
After Jessie called Lynn, sure enough, Lynn agreed to go with them.
As for Quincy, she also agreed after hearing that Lynn was going.
As long as she wasn’t just tagging along as a third wheel, she didn’t mind.
"What about you?" Jessie asked, looking at Victor after she hung up.
"What about me?"
"Don’t you want to invite any friends?"
Victor Morgan was speechless.
He hadn’t planned on inviting anyone. But since his wife wanted to travel with her friends, Victor reluctantly accepted the change of plans.
He hadn’t even considered inviting Xavier Warren and the guys.
"Do you want to see them?" Victor asked.
Because of what had happened at The Caldera Resort, Victor wasn’t sure if Jessie was willing to hang out with his friends.
If she wasn’t, he wouldn’t bother asking them.
Jessie said, "Sure. It’s not like I’m holding a grudge against them. Besides, they’re your friends. Am I supposed to avoid them for the rest of my life?"
Victor lowered his head and kissed Jessie’s forehead. "You could," he teased.
Jessie laughed. "Go on, call them."
Victor didn’t look particularly thrilled.
’What was supposed to be a honeymoon trip with my wife has somehow turned into a group outing for seven or eight people.’
’The honeymoon has officially become a corporate retreat.’
Victor glanced at Jessie, who, as if injected with a shot of adrenaline, was already heading into the adjacent walk-in closet to find clothes and start packing. He sighed inwardly.
’My wife and I are on completely different wavelengths.’ He felt helpless.
Helpless or not, Victor still got up to help her.
The plan was spontaneous, but it wasn’t too hasty.
Jessie and Lynn had gone skiing abroad before, so they both had their own gear at home.
Since they were taking a private jet, it was easy enough to bring everything with them, so Jessie didn’t bother shipping anything ahead.
The next morning, she rushed downstairs for a quick breakfast, then started nagging Victor and Quincy, who were still eating unhurriedly at the table. "Why are you two so slow! Hurry up, hurry up! Do you want to go on this trip or not?!"
’Where’s your enthusiasm for the trip!’
Jessie couldn’t understand the two of them, who were so infuriatingly calm. ’They’re not matching my energy at all!’
Quincy, holding a bowl of bird’s nest soup, shot her a sidelong glance. "Relax. We’ll go when we’re done eating."
Jessie was speechless.
This was exactly why she didn’t like traveling with Quincy. Zero excitement.
Jessie turned her gaze to Victor. Although he also felt there was no need to rush, what could he do when his wife was looking at him like that? He had no choice but to quickly polish off his breakfast and go upstairs to get Jessie’s luggage.
In the end, five people were departing from Southaven.
Besides Lynn Jennings, there was one extra person.
When Jessie saw Cyrus Sheridan, she instinctively glanced at the person beside her, the meaning in her eyes all too clear.
’What is the meaning of this?’
Lynn returned her gaze, signaling that she’d explain once they were on the plane.
"Spill it, now!" The moment they boarded the plane, Jessie pulled Lynn into her room.
Lynn said, "After I left your family’s house, he was waiting outside my apartment." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"Didn’t you move?" Jessie asked.
"He found the new place."
Jessie was speechless.
"When you called me yesterday... ahem... Cyrus was right beside me. So, he heard everything," Lynn said.
Jessie stared at her, her expression strange.
’She’d called Lynn in the middle of the night. Why was Cyrus still with her at that hour?’
"Are you two together?" Jessie asked.
Lynn said, "As if."
"Then what’s the deal with you two?"
Lynn looked at her, at the way her big eyes blinked, the clear light in them making her look utterly innocent.
Lynn’s fingers suddenly itched. She couldn’t resist reaching out to tilt Jessie’s chin, as if teasing a little puppy.
"Friends with benefits, obviously," Lynn said nonchalantly. "He wants to get married. I told him that’s impossible and that he should go find someone else if he wants a wife. Besides, he’s a grown man going on about his virginity. Yeah, right. He said he was a virgin, but when I asked for proof, he couldn’t produce any."
Jessie was dumbstruck.
