After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 142: The Ultimate King of Jealousy
Victor Morgan was standing in the courtyard, not far from the bedroom.
He had a violin tucked under his chin, still wearing the wool overcoat he’d come home in.
The man looked impeccably dressed, and there was a certain seriousness to his posture, even as he played.
Apparently noticing that the bedroom curtain had been pulled open from the inside, Victor Morgan took two steps closer to the window.
The sound of *Nocturne* reached Jessie Sterling’s ears, becoming much clearer.
Jessie Sterling didn’t get out of bed. She sat on the edge, watching the man on the other side of the window, her eyes sparkling.
’Victor Morgan is actually playing the violin for me!’
She’d almost forgotten asking Victor Morgan what he could do back on their honeymoon.
Back then, Victor Morgan had promised he’d play for her one day. She never imagined she would hear his music so unexpectedly tonight.
The Victor Morgan playing the violin in the garden felt worlds apart from the man Jessie Sterling saw every day.
Normally, Victor Morgan seemed unapproachable. His presence was so powerful that anyone could tell he wasn’t an easy person to talk to. But now, playing the violin in the twilight, he seemed much more at ease, even though he was still in his suit and overcoat. Perhaps it was the artistic air that softened his inherent rigidity, making him even more captivating than usual.
In any case, Jessie Sterling found herself drawn to this version of Victor Morgan.
She watched in a bit of a daze as the man outside walked in.
’Who doesn’t like romance?’
’Especially a sudden, unexpected romance?’
’And a romance coming from a stick-in-the-mud like Victor Morgan, of all people?’
For Jessie Sterling, tonight was undoubtedly a night of surprises.
"Why the sudden thought to play the violin?" Jessie Sterling asked with a beaming smile as she watched Victor Morgan come in and flip on all the lights in the room.
Victor Morgan didn’t answer the question, asking instead, "Do you like it?"
Jessie Sterling nodded rapidly, like a chick pecking at rice. "I do! You looked so different from your usual self just now."
"How so?" Victor Morgan asked impassively.
Jessie Sterling thought for a moment. "You looked even more handsome!"
’A man who usually looks like a stuffy old official... The sight of him romantically playing the violin was far more alluring than his usual serious demeanor.’
Jessie Sterling couldn’t help but study Victor Morgan’s chiseled features. ’If he were just a few years younger,’ she thought, ’he could totally debut as a star. With looks like his, he’d probably be an overnight sensation.’
’Just as I thought,’ Victor Morgan said to himself upon hearing her words. ’My wife just likes this type of flashy guy. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have created a character who plays the guitar in her latest comic update.’
Thinking of this, Victor Morgan asked, "So, do you prefer a guy who plays the violin, or one who plays the guitar?"
Jessie Sterling: "???"
Even though she was usually pretty oblivious and not that perceptive, Jessie Sterling could tell something was off the moment Victor Morgan spoke.
’This man... Don’t tell me he’s jealous?’
At the thought, Jessie Sterling couldn’t quite hide the smile in her eyes.
"...Hahaha." Unable to hold it in for even two seconds, Jessie Sterling burst out laughing right in front of Victor Morgan.
Victor Morgan: "..."
Once she started laughing, Jessie Sterling dropped the pretense and said it outright, "You’re jealous."
Victor Morgan: "..."
With his feelings laid bare just like that, Victor Morgan felt a sense of resignation. He didn’t deny it.
He had been so swamped with work lately that he’d almost forgotten the promise he’d made to Jessie Sterling.
If he hadn’t seen Jessie’s latest comic, Victor Morgan wasn’t sure when he ever would have remembered to play the violin for his wife.
What Jessie didn’t know, however, was that he had been practicing at home for quite a while before she returned to Aethelburg.
No matter how good you once were at playing an instrument, if you don’t practice diligently, you’re bound to get rusty.
Even with his natural talent, Victor Morgan wasn’t the type to master a skill without putting in the effort.
"Well, your comic is the one that strayed from its theme." Ever since he flew abroad to pick her up, Victor Morgan hadn’t intentionally brought up her comic in front of Jessie.
Just because he didn’t say anything didn’t mean he’d forgotten.
At his words, the laughter Jessie had been struggling to suppress burst out once more, ringing unceremoniously in Victor Morgan’s ears.
If Victor Morgan hadn’t said that, Jessie would have actually thought he didn’t really care.
’She never would have guessed. The reason Victor Morgan hadn’t said anything to her wasn’t because he wasn’t bothered, but because he was secretly stewing over it, getting worked up all by himself.’
Victor Morgan felt a pang of frustration as he watched the woman before him laugh so smugly.
"You’re still laughing?" Victor Morgan gritted his teeth.
’At work, who would dare treat me like this?’
Jessie cried out as Victor Morgan grabbed her by the waist. She tried to dodge his hands but unexpectedly sent herself tumbling right into his arms.
With Jessie in his arms, Victor Morgan instinctively lowered his head and captured her lips.
It wasn’t a forceful or fierce kiss, just a gentle one, but it sent a pleasant tingle through Jessie’s heart all the more easily.
When the kiss ended, Jessie didn’t burst into laughter as she had before. Instead, she nestled against Victor’s chest. "What are you thinking about? I just casually added a few side characters. It’s not as complicated as you’re making it out to be. And you even asked if I prefer someone who plays guitar or violin."
Victor Morgan didn’t want to admit he’d been so petty. To think that even a fictional character could make him so jealous.
"I just felt the story was starting to deviate from the theme of *New Marriage Diary*, so I was just offering you some constructive feedback."
Jessie Sterling fiddled with the button on his chest. "How have I?"
"You’ve introduced other men. How can it still be called *New Marriage Diary*? It’s completely unnecessary," Victor said. "They’re a happily married couple in love, why create a bunch of love rivals? The comment section is a toxic mess now, too. It’s not good."
Jessie Sterling: "..."
’She was realizing now that just because Victor Morgan could ski, dive, and play the violin, it didn’t mean he wasn’t a stick-in-the-mud. In Victor’s mind, a person should only love their partner for their entire life. As for any other ’wandering eyes’ or romantic notions, those were unacceptable. Not even in fiction. Even there, one had to be completely devoted.’
’Doesn’t that sound awfully old-fashioned?’
’But it seemed she didn’t really mind it all that much.’
The fans of the comic artist Little Squid discovered that after she had been missing for about ten days, their beloved creator had finally posted an update.
And the male lead, who had been absent for nearly a month, was finally back.
