After my divorce, I started to have good luck-Chapter 901 - 482: Keeping a Low Profile Is Necessary
The next morning, Chen Feng and Wu Mengting rarely went for a run together, circling the villa area twice before returning home.
After showering separately upstairs, they went downstairs for breakfast.
"Sister Lu is optimistic about a major film project now and plans to get involved. We've discussed it internally in the company. Personally, I'm cautious, but she's very optimistic and might ask for your opinion in the next couple of days."
Barely having taken a few bites of breakfast, Wu Mengting started talking business with Chen Feng.
Chen Feng didn't find it inappropriate. After all, Wu Mengting is still nominally his personal assistant, and he usually learns about company matters by chatting with her and Sun Xiaorui.
Chen Feng asked as usual, "What film project is it? Who's leading it?"
Wu Mengting answered, "It's led by the National Film Company, a major war film with several investors already. The total investment is approximately 1.5 billion, and several companies have shown strong interest in participating. According to Sister Lu, typical film companies would not qualify for such a large project. Her connections and our company's recent successes in hit dramas have earned us a place. Otherwise, we wouldn't qualify."
Chen Feng slightly frowned and asked, "How much is she planning to invest from the company?"
"At least 50 million, otherwise they won't let us play, ideally 100 million. She believes it's a safe bet with the National Film Company leading; essentially guaranteed profit. So, she suggests we aim for 100 million."
After listening, Chen Feng shook his head and said, "Our company is still small-scale, better to play our own game instead of leaning on the National Film Company. Investing 100 million in one go is too risky, and the return cycle is a concern. Even though our company isn't short on money, that kind of turmoil is unnecessary. So, I vetoed it."
Upon hearing Chen Feng's response, Wu Mengting smiled and nodded, "Actually, I'm also against the investment. But I can't oppose Sister Lu openly at work; I can only be cautious given she's the general manager. I respect her outwardly. I understand and support her desire to grow the company, but this investment choice seems too aggressive and risky."
Sun Xiaorui, who was eating breakfast with them, chimed in, "Compared to big companies like the National Film Company, Fengmang Film and Television is relatively small. This promising project will attract many big companies' attention; taking a share will undoubtedly offend peers. Also, I worry about the box office revenue distribution; those big companies may play tricks or delay payments. As a small company, we lack the capability to counterbalance them. So, better not to engage with them."
Sun Xiaorui's words seemed pessimistic but represented reality. Fengmang Film and Television really doesn't have strong backing or official connections; if tricked, we have no recourse.
The current notable relationship is Li Shengping's, which about facilitates TV drama reviews in East Sea Province, within regulatory limits.
Regarding films, Fengmang Film and Television, a company under a year old, really lacks foundation.
Engaging in such large projects might ultimately suffer substantial losses.
However, thinking it through, Lu Sijia is an industry veteran; surely she must understand this. Then why insist on this approach?
Chen Feng voiced this question.
Wu Mengting replied, "Sister Lu's husband is a university professor in a high position at the National Film Company, and incidentally responsible for this big project."
Such a close relationship might seem significant, yet for such a major project, Chen Feng still felt avoiding risk was necessary; steady was better. Moreover, Chen Feng didn't want his company to rush into the film industry, raising visibility too soon.
The post that sticks out first gets broken; Chen Feng himself lacks a firm background; discretion is essential. Otherwise, demise could come unexpectedly.
For now, quietly making money is essential.
"I'll call her later to discuss this matter."
As the company boss, even with Lu Sijia having shares, she works for him. Chen Feng couldn't simply let things slide.
Especially concerning such a large investment, he certainly had to communicate with Lu Sijia.
"Yes, talk to her properly. Her work ability is strong, and her investment plan is initially to make money for the company. Speak gently, avoid conflict."
Wu Mengting acknowledged Lu Sijia's importance to the company and reminded Chen Feng specifically.
Chen Feng nodded, remained silent.
After breakfast, Chen Feng took out his phone and called Lu Sijia.
It was Saturday, a little past eight in the morning, and Lu Sijia was enjoying a rare morning sleep when Chen Feng's call woke her.
Seeing it was Chen Feng's number, she answered reluctantly.
"Sijia, are you free tonight? Come to my place for dinner."
Chen Feng, the boss, extended a rare invitation to her.
Lu Sijia paused, then responded with a smile, "Sure. It's been a while since I visited your place or had home-cooked meals. I'll come over in the afternoon then. Mengting and Little Rui should welcome me, right?"
"Of course. I've been wanting to see you too."
"Don't!" Lu Sijia quickly said, "Don't say things that can easily be misunderstood, like wanting to see me. If I misunderstand, you'll be accountable."
Chen Feng laughed, "Alright. Responsible it is, if you're willing."
This slightly suggestive exchange cleared Lu Sijia's sleepiness, prompting her to switch to Lu City dialect, "Boss, that's enough. I work for you, not to be teased by you."
Chen Feng also switched to Lu City dialect, protesting, "Heaven and earth bear witness; I genuinely wasn't teasing. Just speaking the truth."
"Alright, alright. Let's drop it. I know you too well. You wouldn't invite me to dinner casually or call so early; tell me the real reason?"
Indeed, Lu Sijia knew her hometown boss Chen Feng well.
Chen Feng chuckled, not hiding anything, "This morning Mengting and the others talked about the major film project you want to invest in. My concern is our company is too small to force cooperation with major film firms. We lack expertise and fear being tricked by those big firms. You understand where I'm coming from."
