After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 53: The Role of Weapons
"If they have a supply warehouse in the Western Suburbs, it’s most likely here."
Nina Jacobs drove directly into the park.
Simon Abbott’s group didn’t have a Space Superpower User, so they’d stockpiled a massive amount of supplies before the apocalypse.
Nina Jacobs knew they had multiple warehouse locations, but she couldn’t guess where they were.
But having been reborn, she knew they would definitely hide their supply warehouses in sparsely populated, inconspicuous places.
Like that abandoned garage last time.
And here.
After driving a lap around the park, Nina Jacobs still couldn’t find any location suitable for storing supplies.
That included the unopened cafes and tea houses inside the park.
There were no supplies inside any of them.
Just when she thought she had misjudged, she noticed a pile of construction materials.
Behind the piles of sand and bricks were several transport trucks.
They looked like cargo trucks for hauling construction materials.
There were nine such trucks, and each had a sealed cargo container.
After confirming no one was around, Nina Jacobs violently pried open the door of one of the trucks.
Inside were two neat rows of wooden crates, stacked high and low.
Just as she expected, the wooden crates were filled with food supplies.
"They’re really good at hiding things."
’Hiding supplies in construction vehicles... even if people came to this abandoned park, they wouldn’t notice.’
Nina Jacobs simply stored all the remaining wooden crates directly into her system’s storage.
Including the contents of the other eight trucks.
By the time she finished and returned home, it was already afternoon.
She drove her car straight into the courtyard and handed Leo Hale several large bags of supplies she’d brought down from the vehicle.
The supplies were her excuse for going out.
"You went out looking for supplies all by yourself?
You’ve got some serious nerve."
On the second-floor balcony of the neighboring courtyard, Chester Pearson was standing there, watching her.
"I took a detour, so I got back a little late," Nina Jacobs replied, not batting an eye.
Her car’s front windshield was splattered with zombie blood, and its sides were covered in conspicuous scratch marks.
"As long as you’re back. You’re not hurt, are you?"
Seeing that Nina Jacobs didn’t have a single stain on her, Daniel Hale relaxed.
"I told you not to, but you wouldn’t listen. You just had to go out.
Don’t we still have supplies?"
Vera Coleman nagged, but still used her Water Element Superpower to wash the filth off Nina Jacobs’s car.
Ever since she’d awakened her Superpower, she no longer felt nauseous seeing such disgusting things.
Her physical fitness had also improved considerably.
’This might be the only good thing to come out of the apocalypse.’
"We’re leaving tomorrow. It’s always good to have more supplies," Nina Jacobs said, her mood excellent.
When she went inside, she found that Vera Coleman and the others had already cleaned the old house from top to bottom.
"I wonder if we’ll ever come back here.
I’ve actually grown to like this place," Chelsea Walsh said with a sigh.
Even though it was an old house, life here was very convenient.
Besides, they had fought for their lives together here.
"We will if we get the chance."
Nina Jacobs was also a bit reluctant to leave. Before the base was built, she might come back here again.
「The next morning, the weather was surprisingly cooler than the past few days.」
"I was originally planning to invite you all to take the helicopter, but Man Lawson wouldn’t agree to his own grandson riding in one."
Chester Pearson said, his expression regretful as he looked at the heavy armored vehicles.
Nina Jacobs guessed that the "Man Lawson" he mentioned was likely Myra Lawson’s father and Ian Chandler’s maternal grandfather.
However, she planned to drive her own car for the trip.
’Even if I come back, it’s more convenient to have my own car.’
’Besides, I still have system missions to complete.’
"You’re really not afraid of dying?"
Chester Pearson walked over and tossed her a walkie-talkie.
"The road’s not safe.
But if you get into trouble, you can use this to beg me to save you," Chester Pearson said with a smile.
Each of the heavy armored vehicles was equipped with advanced weaponry and combat personnel, yet Nina Jacobs insisted on driving her own car.
"Okay."
To his surprise, Nina Jacobs actually accepted the walkie-talkie.
"I thought you’d be stubborn to the end."
Chester Pearson suddenly found it boring.
’Once I’ve paid back this favor, I’m never taking another escort job like this again.’
Nina Jacobs watched Chester Pearson’s retreating back without a word.
The route to the shelter was being decided by Chester Pearson, not her.
Her system map showed real-time traffic congestion on the roads. With a walkie-talkie, she might be able to warn the vehicles ahead in time.
After all, Ian Chandler and Vera Coleman were in the armored vehicles up front.
Because Chelsea Walsh didn’t get along with Chester Pearson, she and Leo Hale chose to ride in Nina Jacobs’s car.
"Huh? Why haven’t I seen Shannon Renner?" Leo Hale asked, confused.
For the past few days, Shannon Renner had been practically attached to them. Whenever they opened the door to clear out zombies, she would stick right behind them.
She especially liked following Nina Jacobs, even though Nina paid her no mind.
"She’s gone," Nina Jacobs said as she got in the car.
No one had noticed Shannon Renner’s disappearance.
And no one knew that a cold corpse was lying in a certain room.
"Gone just like that?
Good riddance. At least she won’t be causing trouble every day."
Leo Hale assumed that when Nina Jacobs said "gone," she meant that Shannon Renner had left with Dawn Donovan’s group.
Nina Jacobs didn’t explain. This was just how it was in the apocalypse.
Show your hand too early, and you die.
Be mediocre and too weak, and you die.
Have no background or status, and you die.
Many people disappeared without a sound, and no one cared where they went.
Surviving in the apocalypse wasn’t easy, even for a reincarnator like Shannon Renner.
The convoy slowly started moving. Nina Jacobs opened her system map and followed the vehicles ahead.
Before leaving the old house, Leo Hale had specifically used his Superpower to reinforce the main gate.
Zombie corpses were piled up on both sides of the alley and at its entrance.
The vast majority of these zombies were the result of Chester Pearson’s team gunning them down yesterday, while a few were zombies that had appeared early this morning.
"I guess wherever there are living people, there will be zombies.
I just wonder, with so many living people in the shelter, will it really be safe?" Leo Hale said.
"Safe in a sense, but you’ll still have to stay vigilant at all times," Nina Jacobs replied after a moment of thought.
’At least there will be patrols at night, and if zombies come, the military will be on the front lines.’
"Does that mean we won’t have to kill zombies anymore?"
Leo Hale sounded a bit hopeful, but on second thought, killing zombies with Nina Jacobs these past few days hadn’t been so bad.
Even though it had only been a little over ten days.
His 2XL frame had already slimmed down to an XL.
The vehicles up ahead stopped after driving for only a short while.
It turned out that several utility poles had fallen, completely blocking the intersection.
To continue, they would have to clear away the concrete poles.
But the moment they stopped, zombies from the surrounding area began to converge on them.
Nina Jacobs didn’t get out of the car. She watched as Chester Pearson and a few of his team members used heavy machine guns to make short work of the zombies.
The whole process took less than five minutes.
"Weapons are king."
"Yeah, and you don’t have to worry about getting scratched or bitten by zombies." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Both Leo Hale and Chelsea Walsh found the scene incredibly satisfying.
They even started to think their own primitive methods of killing zombies were a bit pointless.
"How about that? A total sense of security, right?" Chester Pearson’s voice came through the walkie-talkie.
"Just protect them," Nina Jacobs replied, referring to Vera Coleman and the other two in the middle vehicle.
