After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 167: The Boldest Decision
"I...
I’ll go see the leader off."
Walsh said, his head lowered.
Eric Stone was a little disappointed.
Even now, some people were still unwilling to leave with them.
’Is it really that hard for them to take this step?’
"There’s nothing we can do."
"We’re too cowardly."
"It’s safest to just hide here, don’t you think?"
A middle-aged man said.
"Yeah, there are two doors here."
"If we just stay quiet, we might even be able to wait for you all to come back, Leader."
"Let’s go. If we don’t leave now, this place really won’t hold for much longer,"
Yara Garcia said, pointing to the entrance not far away.
The sound of zombies ramming the gate could already be heard from there.
And the thud of Superpowers hitting the door.
’These people have been coddled and cared for by us all this time. How could they possibly dare to follow us out to kill zombies?’
"Let’s go,"
Julian Dempsey said as well.
"Okay."
Eric Stone no longer hesitated and ran toward the other exit.
Zombies were desperately pounding on the iron fences at both ends of the alley.
Finn Hart, however, spotted Chase Gallagher guarding the entrance at the sliding window.
"Chase Gallagher?"
"Is that really you?"
Jane Dixon shouted excitedly.
Chase Gallagher, however, just nodded and continued helping Holden Shaw guide the people behind them inside.
It was just a window, and they had to climb through it to get in.
With the two of them helping, people got inside quickly.
However, the iron fence on one side was spotted by a Superpower-using zombie and was quickly destroyed.
"Hurry! Faster!"
Holden Shaw yelled in a low voice to the people behind.
There were still many barricades and abandoned cars in the alley to hold them back.
But it was hard to say how long they would last.
"Help me get Yara up first."
Only after watching Yara Garcia climb inside the window did Julian Dempsey turn back with some relief to pull Eric Stone and the others up.
Eric Stone was agile.
But just then, no one noticed that a mutated Gold Element zombie had climbed onto the roof of a car.
Just as a Gold Spike shot toward Eric Stone,
a figure unhesitatingly threw himself in front of her.
"Walsh?!"
Eric Stone was shocked.
"Damn it, the zombies are here! You guys get inside first!"
Julian Dempsey was also a Gold Element Superpower User.
He quickly killed the Gold Element zombie.
But more and more zombies had already noticed their location.
Fortunately, before the zombies could swarm in, the rest of the group made it safely through the window.
After the small, inconspicuous sliding window was closed, Kurt Garrison gathered a few Gold and Earth Element Superpower Users to seal it up tight.
"Miss Paige, please, you have to help him."
"He was injured saving me."
Eric Stone pleaded with Pascal Paige.
Although Pascal Paige was already doing her best to heal him, Walsh’s condition looked terrible.
The long Gold Spike had pierced straight through his thin back.
"Leader, don’t... don’t be angry..."
Walsh grabbed Eric Stone’s hand.
"The others... didn’t come along..."
"Actually... they were just afraid of dragging you down..."
"Because you... you always save them."
"Uncle Stone and the others already talked it over."
"They told me to tell you,"
"for everything... thank you."
Walsh’s words made tears stream down Eric Stone’s face instantly.
"But... but I couldn’t protect you all."
"I... I even abandoned them."
Eric Stone should have realized it sooner.
Miss Lawson and Uncle Stone were mostly timid people.
’How could they not want to escape with us?’
Staying behind.
That was their bravest decision.
"Today, I... I was able to help you, Leader."
"I’m so happy."
"This is the first time... I’ve ever been of help to you."
"You all have to... live on..."
The hand gripping Eric Stone’s lost all its strength.
Pascal Paige apologized while crying,
"I’m sorry, I can’t heal him."
"SOB, SOB, I’m so sorry..."
She hated herself for being too weak, unable to even stop the bleeding from Walsh’s wound.
Holden Shaw crouched down and patted her on the back.
Walsh’s injury was just too severe.
"Where are you going?"
Kurt Garrison saw Eric Stone stand up and blocked her path.
"I’m going to get them out."
There was a stubborn edge to Eric Stone’s voice.
And a resolve to fight to the death.
"Eric Stone, have you lost your mind?"
Yara Garcia and Julian Dempsey also blocked her way.
"I’m the one who got them killed."
"If we had left for City D a day earlier, this wouldn’t have happened,"
Eric Stone said through her tears.
She knew she was indecisive and wanted to have it all.
But in the end, this was the result.
"You’re already amazing."
"If it weren’t for you, the rest of us would have died long ago."
Kurt Garrison reached out and hugged her.
Letting her cry her heart out.
"Let’s take him upstairs first. He’s not dead yet,"
Chase Gallagher said after checking for Walsh’s breath.
Walsh had probably just passed out.
But he was still breathing.
"Right, Walsh isn’t dead!"
"He... he’s still breathing!"
Molly Ulrich quickly checked after hearing that and found it was just as Chase Gallagher had said.
"The zombies probably won’t get downstairs for a while."
"Let’s take Walsh upstairs first,"
"and we’ll see what happens,"
Kurt Garrison comforted Eric Stone.
They all knew it was impossible to go back out now.
Going out meant certain death.
Looking at Walsh’s fading breath, Eric Stone finally gave a reluctant nod.
「On the top floor.」
As soon as Finn Hart and his group arrived, they saw Wayne Warner.
And Nina Jacobs, sleeping in his arms.
"Why is she here too?"
Jane Dixon and the others never imagined Nina Jacobs would be here.
"She must be injured."
"Otherwise, she couldn’t possibly be sleeping at a time like this, right?"
Phoebe Vance said with a sneer.
It seemed as though every time they ran into Nina Jacobs, disaster followed.
For once, Nina Jacobs wasn’t prancing around in front of them.
"Who the hell are you?"
"If you don’t know how to talk, then shut your mouth."
Yvonne Willow didn’t recognize them, but Phoebe Vance’s tone made her extremely uncomfortable.
"What happened to her?"
Finn Hart asked.
’So after they parted ways with the Tiger-Lion Squad last time, Nina Jacobs didn’t die after all.’
"She’s fine, just needs some quiet rest."
Wendy Marshall grew more guarded toward the group.
She could tell that Wayne Warner wouldn’t even spare them a glance.
Although Wayne Warner wasn’t very expressive on a normal day,
this reaction could only be described as utter disgust.
Finn Hart was about to say something else, but someone reminded him that Chase Gallagher had arrived.
"Chase, you..."
Finn Hart was surprised to see Chase Gallagher walk right over to Nina Jacobs’s side.
"Chase Gallagher, you know her too?"
Jane Dixon looked between them and couldn’t help but ask.
"Yeah."
Chase Gallagher nodded slightly.
"When did you meet her?"
Phoebe Vance felt that this version of Chase Gallagher was a bit of a stranger.
He had his back to them, as if he didn’t know them well.
They were finally reunited, yet he was being exceptionally cold.
"The day you all abandoned him, of course."
"To do something like that and then pretend nothing happened..."
"I’m truly impressed."
Holden Shaw came over with his hands in his pockets.
It wasn’t that he enjoyed fighting for justice.
It was just that he was in a very bad mood right now.
The building was now surrounded by zombies. Remembering that this group was the main reason for the disaster—that they were the ones who had put Nina Jacobs and the rest of them in this life-or-death crisis—all he wanted to do was give each and every one of them a big slap across the face.
"And who are you?"
"Do you have any right to speak here?"
Jordan Vaughn only found this bratty-looking kid somewhat familiar.
But he paid him no mind, posturing as if ready for a fight.
"He’s my companion."
A figure flashed between Jordan Vaughn and Holden Shaw.
Chase Gallagher’s words made both men look surprised.
