Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Waiting for the Opportunity

"It’s Chase Gallagher!

He’s back!"

Jane Dixon exclaimed in delight.

A moment ago, Finn Hart had sent Chase Gallagher to lure the zombies away. Now, he was back.

But then they remembered their current predicament.

Everyone suddenly realized what was happening.

Sure enough, the moment Chase Gallagher appeared, the zombie infant immediately lunged for him!

"Keep driving, don’t stop!"

But at that moment, Finn Hart gave the order.

"But... Chase..."

Jane Dixon stared at Finn Hart in shock.

Chase and his team were the ones who had scouted out the information on many of the supply points along their route, as well as intelligence on City J.

"It’s too late."

Finn Hart didn’t even look out the window.

In his eyes, Chase Gallagher was already a dead man.

He watched the vehicles flee from right in front of him. Around him, his companions twitched on the ground, on the verge of turning.

Chase Gallagher realized what was happening.

In those cars were people who had once fought alongside him.

And the man he had risked his life for.

’Looks like... I’ve been abandoned again.’

Chase Gallagher smiled bitterly.

He had used nearly all of his Superpower to lure the zombies away.

’I never thought I’d come back to this.’

KEKE...

A zombie infant appeared on the ground not far away.

It was crawling on all fours, yet it lunged at him with incredible speed.

His body reacted faster than his mind.

Chase Gallagher turned and ran in the opposite direction!

"He isn’t, is he...?"

Although Pascal Paige pitied the man who had been abandoned below, he and the others noticed the man was running toward their side of the street.

Right toward their building.

"Now that the Little Zombie has been lured out, this whole area is no longer safe,"

Nina Jacobs said with a sigh.

Their chances of running into the Little Zombie while trying to pass through here were high.

Chase Gallagher must have known this residential complex was empty, which was why he was running this way to save his life.

After all, the more complex the terrain, the higher the chance of a successful escape.

"I’ll go lure them away again."

Holden Shaw said, turning to leave.

It looked like the man had already led the Little Zombie to the base of their building.

"That thing is too dangerous."

Nina Jacobs said. In her opinion, the Little Zombie wasn’t just a simple Speed Element type.

’A fist that small could smash a windshield.

It’s probably a Dual Element type, with both Speed and Strength Superpowers.’

"Dual Element?!"

The color drained from everyone’s faces.

"You all just wait here."

With that, Nina Jacobs disappeared out the door.

Wayne Warner followed right after her.

Using her Five Senses Enhancement, she could already hear the movements of the man and the zombie.

Chase Gallagher immediately regretted entering the vacant residential complex.

After closing the main gate, he discovered the ground was littered with zombie corpses.

They looked like they had just been killed.

Which meant other people were likely here.

He had originally thought this place was deserted.

KE... KE!

The Little Zombie quickly scrambled on top of the main gate.

Its tiny, rotten arm actually tore off a piece from the corner of the iron gate.

"Strength Element?!"

Chase Gallagher was already running on fumes.

He saw the bus parked in the distance.

He also realized there must be people in the building upstairs.

Turning back was impossible; too many zombies were still following him from outside the gate.

So he gritted his teeth and ran in the opposite direction, toward the outdoor exercise equipment.

CLANG!

The Little Zombie landed on a metal weight plate.

The plate immediately buckled inward.

Using the exercise equipment for cover, Chase Gallagher’s high-speed movements were making the Little Zombie increasingly agitated.

If anyone had been watching, they would have noticed Chase Gallagher’s speed was rapidly decreasing.

A sharp pain suddenly shot through his leg.

It caused him to stumble and fall to the ground.

A Gold Element zombie had climbed over the gate and stabbed him with a Gold Spike.

KEKEKE!

The Little Zombie was now right in front of him.

Chase Gallagher subconsciously stretched out his hand.

BANG!

An invisible force slammed into the Little Zombie.

It sent the creature flying hard against a nearby wall.

He looked at his hand in surprise.

’Wind Element?’

Chase Gallagher didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

He had actually awakened a Wind Element Superpower at the critical moment, becoming a Dual Element Superpower User.

’But... what’s the use?’

That single Wind Ball had completely drained his Superpower.

He barely had any physical stamina left, either.

KEKEKE!

The Little Zombie had been completely enraged.

In the blink of an eye, it had disappeared again.

Chase Gallagher looked up at the gray, hazy sky.

He knew he was about to die.

But he didn’t want to run anymore.

’If I get one last look at this world, I don’t want it to be of a zombie’s rotten face...’

Just then.

A dazzling Fire Serpent shot past in front of him.

A piercing shriek came from behind him.

The Fire Serpent crashed into several zombies lunging from the front.

The shriek belonged to the Little Zombie behind him.

A flame-wreathed Wood Element Vine had wrapped itself around one of the Little Zombie’s legs.

"Got you."

Nina Jacobs had been waiting for the perfect moment.

’If she had only used her Wood Element Superpower,

she would never have been able to catch this Speed Element zombie.

But a Wood Element Vine enhanced with her Speed Element Superpower was a different story.’

To Chase Gallagher’s eyes,

it was a Fire Rope. At the other end of the rope was a young woman.

Her face was calm, her gaze fixed intently on the Little Zombie’s every move.

KEKE!

Just as Nina prepared to press the attack with her Fire Element Superpower,

the Little Zombie simply abandoned its leg and broke free!

"I’ll leave the other zombies to you,"

Nina Jacobs said to Wayne Warner.

This Little Zombie was no simple foe; she had to focus all her attention on it.

"Right."

Wayne Warner moved in a flash, sending several zombies flying into the distance with a series of kicks.

They crashed into and knocked down a large swath of other zombies.

As if sensing Nina was its true opponent, the Little Zombie retreated.

The missing leg didn’t seem to affect it at all.

It primarily moved using its arms anyway.

KE...

The Little Zombie vanished in a flash again.

But a curtain of fire erupted in front of Nina.

The Little Zombie didn’t flinch, charging straight through the wall of flames!

Just as it opened its maw and swiped its sharp claws at where Nina had been, she had already dodged away.

’Using its Speed Element Superpower to resist the fire damage?’

’I really can’t underestimate this thing.’

As Nina dodged nimbly, she released a swarm of flames that hovered around her.

With these flames present, the Little Zombie was clearly hesitant to get close.

It even seemed to consider attacking Wayne Warner instead.

In that moment of hesitation, the flames suddenly shot in a single direction!

Two larger clusters of flames broke away from the main swarm.

They latched onto the Little Zombie’s left and right claws.

Those were not flames.

They were two Little Zombie Rats, completely wreathed in fire.

The gnawing of the Little Zombie Rats prevented the Little Zombie from using its arms to move.

Nina seized the opportunity. The remaining flames rapidly converged.

BANG!

Accompanied by a piercing shriek, the Little Zombie was instantly engulfed in flames.

"Be careful!"

Chase Gallagher yelled, watching nervously.

Even though it was completely engulfed in flames, the Little Zombie still charged toward the woman!

But the woman just stood in place.

Just when Chase Gallagher thought she was out of Superpower and unable to move,

the flaming Little Zombie froze right in front of her.

With a sudden POP, the fiery corpse disintegrated into scattered embers. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The zombie infant...

...was defeated?

Chase Gallagher still couldn’t believe it.
