After His Sweetheart Moved In, He Came Home Every Night-Chapter 158: Admitting to Being with Wyatt Sterling for a Long Time
When Alice York didn’t answer, Wyatt Sterling tilted her chin up, demanding to know if she was satisfied.
Alice York grabbed his hand. "Third Uncle, you’re drunk."
"Drunk?" Wyatt Sterling’s eyes were exceptionally bright. He lowered his head and kissed the corner of her mouth. "If I were really drunk, how would I know where to find your lips?"
Alice York’s face and heart both burned. Pushing at him, she said, "You need to rest."
The faint push felt more like an invitation than a rejection. He simply captured her hands, pinning them above her head so she couldn’t move.
Then, a flurry of kisses rained down, starting from her forehead. Their lips and teeth tangled for a long time, the air filled with the intimate sounds of their kiss as his mouth trailed lower...
This fierce, domineering desire was overwhelming, a spark away from a wildfire. For a moment, Alice’s rationality drifted, shattering. She was on the verge of surrendering, of losing herself completely to him.
Fortunately, a sliver of reason remained.
She knew words were useless now. Fueled by alcohol, he was already on edge, poised to strike. She played along for a moment, and just as he thought he was about to get his way, she used all her strength to suddenly flip him onto his back, pinning him beneath her.
Wyatt Sterling’s eyes were bloodshot. He threw his head back, trying to kiss her again.
Alice reacted quickly, planting her hands on his shoulders to push him back down. He wouldn’t give up. He grabbed her slender shoulders and tried to pull her down for another kiss. ’Why is he so persistent today?’ she thought, struggling to hold him off.
"Alright, stop struggling," she said, covering his mouth and coaxing him in a soft voice.
Hearing her voice, Wyatt Sterling finally relented and lay still.
Alice didn’t dare move her hand, afraid he was only pretending to be calm. She leaned down and whispered, "Third Uncle, I have to go downstairs. If I’m up here too long, they’ll get suspicious. It’ll be hard to explain."
Wyatt Sterling pried her small hand from his mouth. He held it, squeezed it, and rubbed the pad of his thumb against her palm. "Suspicious of what?"
He rubbed firmly, and a jolt like electricity shot through Alice, making her go limp. "Third Uncle, stop..." she pleaded softly.
"You won’t let me kiss you, but you keep seducing me. What’s wrong with a little touch?" Wyatt Sterling’s hand pressed against the small of her back, refusing to let go.
Alice denied it. "I’m not seducing you. You’re the one being difficult."
’The alcohol has really gone to his head,’ she thought. ’He’s not thinking straight at all.’
She heard a low, deep laugh rumble in his throat, as pleasant as the strings of a cello.
The hand on the small of her back slid slowly upward to cup the nape of her neck. Before she could react, he captured her lips. This kiss wasn’t as urgent as the last. It was incredibly gentle, and Alice melted, unable to support herself, collapsing completely onto his body.
「A few minutes later.」
Alice York quietly slipped out of the room, closing the door behind her.
She straightened her hair and clothes, only letting out a breath after making sure nothing looked out of place. The faint smell of alcohol lingered around her. He had kissed her for so long that she felt like she’d been marinated in it.
She waved a hand in front of her face to fan away the smell, and when she turned, the sight of her grandmother made her jump. Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest.
"Grandma!"
Alice lowered her voice. "What are you doing here?"
Her grandmother didn’t speak, her eyes fixed on Alice’s mouth. "Little Girl, why are your lips so red and plump?"
Alice immediately clapped a hand over her mouth. After a couple of seconds, she realized that only made her look more guilty. She changed the gesture to scratching the corner of her lip. "My lips were chapped, so I put on some ointment."
Her grandmother smiled knowingly. "I didn’t notice your lips were chapped at dinner. You’ve been kissing someone, haven’t you?"
Alice was speechless.
The lie was so clumsy that her grandmother couldn’t listen to it anymore and called her out directly.
Alice’s face flushed with shame. She avoided her grandmother’s gaze, unable to meet her eyes.
"Little Girl, you lied to your grandma, didn’t you?" Her grandmother had seen it all and didn’t like to beat around the bush. "You told me you were the one pursuing him and that you hadn’t won him over yet. Now you’re already kissing, and so... passionately at that."
At that moment, Alice wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole.
Her grandmother’s expression was priceless. "I know you better than anyone. You’ve never been the casual type. You wouldn’t be kissing someone so soon unless... you two have been together for a while now."
Truly, the older the wiser. She saw right through it.
Before Alice could confess, her grandmother cut straight to the heart of the matter.
"I knew it! Why else would you bring a coworker home for no reason, a male coworker no less? And he even prepared such a lavish gift for us. None of it added up. You’re obviously together and brought him home for your grandpa and me to meet."
Her grandmother finished speaking and then chuckled, amused by her own astuteness and by Alice’s clumsy attempt at deception.
Alice laughed along with her. Her grandmother had gotten the wrong idea, but Alice didn’t bother to correct her. Instead, she looped her arm through her grandmother’s. "So, are you and Grandpa satisfied with him?"
It was the same question Wyatt Sterling had asked her just a few minutes ago.
She had refused to give him a straight answer.
Now, she was posing it to her grandmother, eager to gauge her reaction.
Her grandmother led Alice toward the stairs, gently patting the hand on her arm as they walked. "How could we not be? That young man has shown such sincerity. Your grandfather and I are both very pleased with him."
Alice grinned, smiling like a young girl with her first crush.
Then her grandmother asked, "How far have things gone between you two?"
Alice blushed and didn’t answer.
Her grandmother understood but didn’t press the point. "How long have you been together?"
Alice thought for a moment. "Almost three and a half years."
’Although they didn’t have a defined relationship, that was indeed how long she and Wyatt Sterling had been... involved.’
Her grandmother was stunned. "You’ve been together that long?"
Alice nodded shyly. "Yes."
Though surprised, her grandmother didn’t blame Alice for not breathing a word of it to them for three years.
’It was probably for the best that she kept it a secret.’
After all...
At the thought of that family, the smile vanished from her grandmother’s face, her expression turning serious. "Do the Sterlings know you’re in a relationship?"
Alice fell silent.
Seeing her reaction, her grandmother understood. "The Sterlings don’t know yet."
"No."
Her grandmother and grandfather had always had a terrible impression of the Sterlings, because they knew the family treated Alice poorly.
One year, the old couple had mustered up the courage to leave their town. They’d asked for directions all along the way and taken a long ride on an old-fashioned train to Silvanus to find the Sterlings’ estate.
They wanted to see Alice and Mindy Vaughn.
At the time, Alice had only been with the Sterlings for two years and wasn’t allowed to travel home alone to see them. The elderly couple missed her so much that they decided to make the trip themselves.
And what did they find after that long and difficult journey? They found the Sterlings neglecting Alice, ignoring her completely, leaving her to live a lonely life in that large household. If it had only been the Sterlings, they might have raised hell. But cruelly, Mindy Vaughn was part of that neglect and indifference too.
"Grandma."
Alice’s voice pulled her grandmother from those unpleasant memories.
"That’s all in the past," Alice said.
Her grandmother sighed. "You’ve suffered so much over the years. It finally seems like things are looking up. I just hope everything goes smoothly for you and Wyatt, without any hitches."
Alice pressed her lips together.
Her grandmother wasn’t sure if the Sterlings would try to interfere with Alice’s love life, but since things were heading in a good direction, she decided not to say anything discouraging. Her granddaughter’s happiness was what mattered most.
