After His Sweetheart Moved In, He Came Home Every Night-Chapter 116: The Tenacious and Unyielding Little White Flower
The show’s recording was forced to a halt.
The explosive scandal involving the director and a female guest was shocking enough, but then the police arrived, presenting an arrest warrant and stating that the director, Edward Ellison, was a suspect in multiple rape cases...

Discussions about *One in a Million* quickly shot to the top of the trending charts. Keywords and headlines immediately appeared on Baidu and other major websites, the story spreading at an astonishing rate.
[There goes my mindless entertainment. I never would’ve thought...]
[It’s such a mess behind the scenes. A female guest sleeps with the director at night and then goes on the show to find a date the next day. I feel bad for all the male guests who genuinely tried to get on the show each season.]
[I’d always heard these kinds of shows had a dark side, but seeing it actually exposed is still so shocking!]
For now, the information exposed online was only related to the show. Aside from a few photos of the director and Cecelia, Alice York’s name hadn’t appeared anywhere.
Meanwhile, backstage at the show.
Alice York went to change back into her original clothes.
When she came out, she saw Owen Sterling standing not far away. Head bowed, he was using a handkerchief to wipe away the blood he’d gotten on himself from Edward Ellison. Zoe Jenson and her younger uncle were standing beside him.
Alice started to walk over, but Seraphina Sheridan popped up out of nowhere and called out to her, "Alice York?"
Her tone was a little hesitant.
Alice York turned around. "You haven’t left, Miss Sheridan?"
Seraphina Sheridan strode up to Alice York, clutching her phone. "The police need to question everyone involved. I have evidence of Edward Ellison harassing me, and I’m going to give it to them in a bit."
Alice York nodded and hummed in acknowledgment.
They had only met today, so there wasn’t much for them to talk about.
However, it was clear Seraphina wanted to get to know Alice better. She kept squeezing her phone, looking like she wanted to say something but was holding back. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Alice saw through her hesitation. "Just say what’s on your mind. Or ask what you want to ask."
Her intentions now out in the open, Seraphina stopped hesitating.
She immediately unlocked her phone and held it out to Alice. "Can I get your contact information?"
"...Huh?" Alice was taken aback for a moment.
She had thought the other woman had something important to tell her, not that she was going to ask for her contact info.
Seraphina said with a serious expression, "I want to be friends with you."
Alice smiled, her eyes softening. "Okay."
Alice then took out her phone, and she and Seraphina exchanged contact information.
As Seraphina put her phone away, Alice brought something up. "You stayed here and endured the director’s harassment rather than leaving because the appearance fee was high. Now that he’s been arrested, the show probably won’t just be temporarily suspended—it’ll likely be shut down. What will you do? Do you have any plans?"
Seraphina looked up to meet Alice’s gaze and smiled nonchalantly. "Losing a job is nothing compared to seeing Edward Ellison go to jail. Don’t worry, I have another career. I can support myself."
She said it so casually, as if she truly didn’t care.
But Alice remembered Seraphina saying not long ago that she needed ten more days. It seemed she was trying to raise a large sum of money...
"What is your other work?" Alice asked curiously.
Seraphina wasn’t secretive about her career. She told Alice openly, "I usually take on small roles, play extras, that sort of thing."
Alice: "What about your main job?"
Seraphina chuckled. "To me, any job that makes money is a main job. I’ll take on anything."
Alice didn’t press further, even though she could see Seraphina was carefully hiding her own sense of helplessness.
"Alice!"
Zoe Jenson came up from behind and hooked her arm through Alice’s. Her eyes swept over Seraphina Sheridan before she asked, "Alice, who is she?"
"One of the other female guests from the show. We just met tonight," Alice said.
Seraphina smiled at Zoe. "My name is Seraphina Sheridan."
Zoe just said, "Oh," a hint of arrogance in her eyes. She didn’t give her own name, clearly having no intention of getting to know the other woman.
Seraphina didn’t seem to mind. She looked at Alice and said, "I don’t have many strengths, but I’m a really hard worker. As long as it doesn’t break the law or cross any moral lines, I’ll take any job that pays."
As she spoke, Seraphina pressed her lips together, then gave a sincere smile. "If you ever hear of any tough but honest work, I hope you’ll think of me first. I’ll definitely be there."
Alice agreed. "Okay."
Seraphina’s smile brightened visibly. She took a few steps back. "I’ll get going, then."
Alice nodded.
Watching Seraphina leave, Zoe waved a hand in front of Alice’s face. "Looks like that resilient little white flower has completely stolen your heart."
Alice pulled her gaze back to Zoe, amused by the mock-resentful look in her friend’s eyes. She let out a snort of laughter.
There weren’t many people around, and in the quiet, Alice’s laugh inevitably drew the attention of the two men standing in the distance.
Owen Sterling and Holden Locke were of a similar height and build, but their auras were completely different. Holden, being seven or eight years older, had the air of a man shaped by experience, while Owen still possessed a more youthful quality.
When both men happened to look over at the same time, Alice’s smile vanished. She patted Zoe’s hand. "Let’s go."
Zoe huffed and fell into step beside Alice. "Are you really going to find a job for that woman you just met tonight?"
Alice replied, "We’re not in the same line of work. It’s not like I can just find a suitable job for her on a whim."
Zoe was still feeling irked. "There were so many female guests tonight. Why did you only talk to her? Is there something special about her, or did she just sweet-talk you?"
"..."
’Why do I feel like I’m breaking out in a cold sweat?’
Alice explained to Zoe how she’d met Seraphina. Once everything was clear, Zoe was finally appeased. "Oh, so that’s how it was."
"Alice, Mr. Locke here has offered to treat us to dinner. What do you think?" Owen Sterling said, looking at Alice.
Of course, he wanted to refuse on Alice’s behalf and take her straight home, but he wasn’t one to make decisions for others, so he decided to ask for her opinion.
Alice walked over to Holden Locke and apologized. "I’m afraid tonight isn’t a good time. News that I was on this dating show will reach my grandfather soon, and he could call me in for questioning at any moment. Let’s have dinner another day. It’ll be my treat."
Holden Locke smiled gently. "Not at all. It was my oversight. Another day, it will still be my treat."
Alice didn’t argue and simply nodded.
Just then, Zoe asked, "When Old Master Sterling questions you, Alice, what are you going to say?"
"I’ll tell the truth. It wasn’t my decision to come here in the first place."
Old Master Sterling knew the score. When he started asking questions, both she and Melody Lancaster would be responsible. However, if Old Master Sterling had already accepted Melody as his daughter-in-law and chose not to blame her, then Alice probably wouldn’t get into much trouble either. It all depended on whether someone decided to stir the pot.
