Chapter 22: Rage

Dora bit her lip and softened her tone. "Mino, come with me. I’m the most beautiful female in the tribe, and I have high fertility. Look—I’m already pregnant with my second litter. As long as you’re willing to be my beast husband, I’ll give you my next litter, and I can even promise to bear you several more."

She felt quite confident. She didn’t believe that, with bait like this, Mino could remain unmoved.

But Mino showed not the slightest hesitation. "I don’t need that. I will never be your beast husband. Give up on that idea."

"Why?" Dora glared resentfully toward the stone house where Nina was. "Because of that ugly female?"

"It has nothing to do with her. I don’t like you, and I won’t be your beast husband," Mino said bluntly.

"That’s impossible. I’m superior in every way—why wouldn’t you like me?" Dora refused to believe that he felt nothing for her.

Mino glanced toward the stone house, his tone impatient. "Not liking you means not liking you. I’ve said everything that needs to be said. Leave now and stop disturbing us."

He was worried Nina might be hungry. He just wanted to send Dora and her group away so Nina could eat in peace.

Seeing how much Mino cared about Nina, Dora became convinced there was something wrong with her.

Fuming, she rushed toward the stone house, yanked aside the curtain, and stormed in. At a glance, she saw Nina sitting on the bed, her lower body covered with animal hide.

"Hah—so it really is an ugly freak, hiding behind a mask," Dora sneered. Then she covered her nose. "And it reeks in here."

The smell of medicinal salve hadn’t fully dissipated yet.

When Nina noticed unfamiliar beastmen gathering outside, she had already put on her mask and deliberately covered her belly. She wanted to keep a low profile and avoid trouble.

Mino and Dora’s beast husbands rushed in after her. In an instant, the stone house was packed tight with beastmen, the space feeling cramped.

They all looked toward Nina, curiosity filling their eyes. Just what kind of female was she, to captivate someone as powerful and aloof as Mino?

Nina had heard most of the commotion outside, but she hadn’t expected them to barge in so abruptly.

She lifted her gaze and saw a crowd pour in. The first to enter was a delicate-looking female; most of the others were males. Apart from two or three exceptions, the rest bore contract marks on their foreheads.

In the beast world, forming an official bond required a shaman’s engraving. Only after the engraving would a contract be formed.

After bonding, a male would display his female partner’s contract mark on his forehead. Each female had only one unique mark, making it easy to identify whose beast husband a male was—and whether he was already bonded.

Females, on the other hand, would gain a beast pattern unique to each male. If a female no longer wanted a certain male, she could personally cut through his beast pattern, triggering backlash from the contract.

Dora truly had many beast husbands. At a rough glance, there were at least ten of them. How did she even manage them all?

"What do you want?" Nina asked coldly.

Anyone would be unhappy having their space invaded like this.

"You ugly freak—what kind of bewitching drug did you give Mino to make him treat you so well?" Dora’s eyes were full of disdain and resentment.

"Dora, don’t talk nonsense," Mino said, stepping in front of Nina. "Get out right now and stop disturbing Nina."

Mino had already asked Aji about Nina’s previous poisoning and understood why Dora would say such things. Seeing Nina wearing a mask, he oddly felt relieved—proof that she didn’t want to look for a beast husband in the tribe.

It was better this way. He didn’t want other males to see her. If only he knew her beauty, there would be far fewer rivals.

Ignoring Mino, Dora shifted aside and sneered at Nina. "Do you dare take off that mask and let Mino see how ugly you really are? Let’s see if he’ll still treat you well then."

"Why should I listen to you?" Nina replied icily. "If you have nothing else to do, leave. You’re not welcome here."

Dora flew into a rage. "Mino, you’ve definitely been deceived! Look—she doesn’t even dare show her face. She’s obviously ugly. Make her take off the mask and you’ll see she doesn’t deserve your kindness at all!"

"I’ve already seen what Nina looks like," Mino said coldly. "And I choose to treat her well. You have no right to interfere."

His gaze swept over Dora and the males behind her, sharp and frigid. "Get out of here right now—or else..."

He raised his hand. Above his palm, several slender ice blades formed, gleaming coldly.

The temperature in the stone house dropped abruptly. The males instantly tensed, staring at Mino in alarm.

Dora’s heart trembled. She stumbled backward in fear, hiding behind the nearest beast husband. "I—we’re leaving right now. Don’t attack."

As she spoke, she clutched her beast husband’s arm tightly, retreating warily toward the door.

Once outside, she quickened her pace, dragging her beast husbands away as if fleeing.

When they were gone, Mino withdrew the ice blades and turned to Nina, full of guilt. "I’m sorry, Nina. They disturbed you."

"It’s fine," Nina replied.

Seeing that she truly wasn’t angry, Mino finally relaxed. "Are you hungry? Dinner’s ready. Do you want to eat outside, or should I bring it in?"

"I am a little hungry. Please bring it in," Nina said.

Mino carried the dishes inside: fish soup with wild vegetables, braised fish, and sliced boiled meat.

He served her a bowl of rice and handed it over.

"Thank you," Nina said with a smile as she took it. "You must be hungry too. Want to eat together?"

Seeing her smile, Mino knew she wasn’t upset with him. All the frustration from earlier vanished at once, and he replied happily, "Mm, let’s eat together."

He filled his own bowl and sat beside her, but instead of eating, he took an empty bowl and carefully removed the fish bones for her, piling it high with fish meat.

"Nina, just eat the belly meat—it doesn’t have small bones. Leave the bony parts to me."

He had cooked plenty—more than enough for both of them.

Nina took a bite of fish and sighed inwardly with regret. Such a perfect husband candidate, such an adorable big cat... what a pity.

Throughout the meal, Mino barely ate. He focused on taking care of Nina, only finishing the leftovers after she was full.

When Dora returned, she flew into a rage. She summoned her first beast husband, Ilai, and slapped him hard across the face. "Useless trash! It’s all your fault for being so incompetent—I was humiliated today because of you!"

She grabbed a vine whip from the table and lashed it viciously at another beast husband nearby, venting her fury.

A faint handprint appeared on Ilai’s bronzed face. He suppressed his anger and said, "Yes, we can’t defeat Mino. But he clearly doesn’t like you. Why do you insist on provoking him? Don’t you already have enough beast husbands? Is it that we can’t support you?"

This wasn’t the first time Dora had beaten them because of Mino. Every time she hit a wall with him, she would take it out on her own beast husbands.
