After Divorcing the Tycoon, I Married into a Wealthy Family Again-Chapter 51: Don’t Drag Me Along
Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Don’t Drag Me Along
Luke Gardiner glanced at her twice, "When are you going back to SJ?"
Florence Fuller looked at him, "You go first."
"I’m not going anywhere." He looked at Florence Fuller, "If you’re leaving, we’ll go together."
"What are you staying here for?" Florence said, "Go back early and spend the New Year with your mom."
Luke Gardiner was about to speak, then paused. In the past, one sentence from him and one from Florence would inevitably lead to a confrontation. He softened his voice, "It’s not good for you to be alone. I’ll stay with you."
Florence Fuller rolled her eyes, "Stay for what? Just causing trouble."
He ran all the way here to find her, and Florence Fuller was indeed a bit surprised, but she didn’t need him here.
"I flew all the way here, and you’re clearly showing you’re not too keen on me." Luke Gardiner frowned, "You even despise me."
"Did I ask you to come?" Florence Fuller raised an eyebrow, "You’re not here because of the divorce, are you?"
Luke Gardiner was pinned down by her gaze. He wanted to retort but couldn’t find the words.
Florence Fuller looked at him seriously, "What’s your reason for not wanting the divorce?"
Luke Gardiner lowered his eyes and said nothing.
"We didn’t know each other before marriage, and after marriage, at most, we were acquaintances. You don’t like being tied down, nor do you like your grandfather’s control over you. I’m asking for a divorce, shouldn’t you be thrilled?"
She thought Luke Gardiner already knew about the divorce, that they could meet and talk it out without affecting each other’s interests. She currently didn’t hold any Gardiner Clan assets, so relatively, it should be easy.
Yet, Luke Gardiner was acting completely out of character.
"I just don’t want a divorce." Luke Gardiner stared at the bread in his bowl.
Florence Fuller thought for a moment, "There’s no way I’m having a child with you. If you want kids, there are plenty of people who would have them with you."
"You really want a divorce that badly."
The restaurant was empty except for them and a few waitstaff.
Luke Gardiner’s voice was somewhat muffled, "After the divorce, do you think things will be easy for you in SJ?"
"Of course." Florence Fuller said without hesitation, "NQ is already established."
Her assets weren’t just limited to NQ. Once NQ goes public, she’ll plan her next steps.
Luke Gardiner gritted his teeth with a hint of stubbornness, "Anyway, I won’t agree to the divorce."
"Luke Gardiner." Florence Fuller’s eyes darkened for a moment, "I can’t spend my life in the Gardiner Family. I must get the divorce."
"If you think I’m too wild outside." Luke Gardiner’s heart trembled slightly, "I can promise to change. I won’t..."
"No need to promise me!" Florence Fuller interrupted him mercilessly, "I don’t care what you do outside. It has nothing to do with me. You can continue living your life as before, but I want a divorce. Don’t hold me back."
Don’t hold me back.
Luke Gardiner wanted to stand up angrily and shout that divorce was impossible before leaving, but he knew Florence Fuller’s temperament.
If he threw a tantrum and walked away, Florence Fuller wouldn’t be fazed, and she’d much less try to placate or please him to achieve a divorce.
He recalled his first glimpse of her at their wedding. She was gentle and lovely, always nodding at whatever the elders around them said, even knowing he only saw her as a tool for a strategic marriage. She wasn’t angry at all.
He left the wedding midway, causing the old man to fly into a rage.
She still showed no emotion.
As if she wasn’t marrying him at all.
Right... Luke Gardiner looked at Florence Fuller in front of him with complex emotions. She never cared about him from the start.
"We’ll discuss this when we get back... Let’s not talk about it while we’re out having fun." he said.
Florence Fuller blinked and stood up, "I’m going to pay the bill."
She spent a day at the ski resort, only returning to the hotel at sunset.
Luke Gardiner brushed off the earlier unpleasantness, constantly inching closer to Florence Fuller in the car, "You really don’t want to see the photos I took of you?"
Florence Fuller looked at her phone, "No."
"I have good photography skills; I took such nice photos of you."
He said, glancing at Florence Fuller’s phone screen, but she was quicker, exiting the screen. Luke Gardiner only caught a glimpse of a silhouette, seeing nothing substantial.
Florence Fuller glared at him, "If you can’t be a bit more orderly, just get out."
Things were getting heated.
Luke Gardiner put away his phone and sat properly, "No one has dared to talk to me like this since I was a kid."
Florence Fuller sneered, "Really, young master."
"Yes, young mistress."
Florence Fuller glared at him.
"The staff at the ski resort recognized you and said you come every year; you really like skiing."
Florence Fuller had gone skiing that afternoon while he waited in the lounge, chatting idly with the staff who said she’d been coming for years.
"You got a problem?" Florence Fuller said.
"No." Luke Gardiner thought for a moment, "If you like it so much, we can come together next year."
Florence Fuller looked at him.
Luke Gardiner inexplicably felt a chill from that gaze.
At the hotel, Florence Fuller walked straight to her room. Luke Gardiner followed closely behind, and in the elevator, Florence Fuller shot him a sidelong glance, "You staying on this floor?"
"Can’t I walk you back to your room?" Luke Gardiner said.
Florence Fuller couldn’t be bothered to engage with him. She exited the elevator and headed to her room, while Luke Gardiner sidled next to her, "Got any plans for tomorrow?"
"Yes."
"What are you going to do?"
Florence Fuller swiped her room card, "Skiing."
"Skiing again, aren’t you tired of it..."
"Bang!"
The door shut, almost hitting Luke Gardiner’s nose.
The opportunity to sneak in for a sit was completely blocked off. He knocked on the door, "Remember to call me to join you tomorrow."
But he mostly figured Florence Fuller wouldn’t call him anyway, so it was better to hang out in the lobby and wait for her.
A week later, Luke Gardiner followed Florence Fuller back to SJ.
Landing in SJ City, Florence Fuller walked towards the exit while arranging for a car over the phone. Luke Gardiner caught up and snatched her phone, "I’ll take you home."
Florence Fuller had been so annoyed with him these past few days. On the flight back, he was seated next to her, whispering endless monologues, talking incessantly. If she hadn’t pretended to sleep to get away from him, she might have hit him a few times right on the plane.
"Give it back." She extended her hand.
Luke Gardiner obediently returned the phone; the call was already disconnected, "I have a car. It’s more convenient to go together."
"We’re not going the same way."
"Not the same way going back to the old house?"
"Did I tell you I’m going back to the old house?" Florence Fuller glanced at him, "Go back yourself."
"Fine, if you won’t, then not the old house. I’ll take you wherever you’re heading." Luke Gardiner thought he was really pathetic, throwing his face away for a woman for the first time, yet he was happy to do it.
The call was interrupted, and she couldn’t be bothered, letting Luke Gardiner handle the luggage and head to the garage to drive there.
The company’s employees hadn’t all returned from holiday yet, but NQ’s executives had already started diving into work early.
With the company nearing its IPO, everyone at the company and board was extremely focused.
