After Divorce, Hidden Marriage Husband Became Addicted to Me-Chapter 431 - 301: Paid Leave_2
Chapter 431: Chapter 301: Paid Leave_2
Su Xuewen handed over the anti-dizziness medication, "Are you still feeling dizzy now?"
Tang Xi nodded and rubbed her temples. "Yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this dizzy."
She took the medication and swallowed it with water.
Su Xuewen took Tang Xi’s temperature again, 38.2 degrees Celsius.
"You are set to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. The inspection this morning showed that there were no other complications with your health. Just rest well at home. It’s because you’re too tired and have lower resistance which caused the fever. Rest well and eat some nutritious food, but don’t overdo it these next few days."
Tang Xi nodded.
"It’s nothing, it’ll be all right in two days."
Su Xuewen shook her head, "You won’t be better in these two days. You might develop another fever tomorrow. Come here, or go to the community clinic to get an IV, don’t just tough it out alone."
Before Su Xuewen left, she glanced at Fu Tingzhou, who was sitting on the companion chair to one side, bent down to whisper in Tang Xi’s ear, "Your husband gets more handsome every time I see him; you really have an eye for them. We women should find someone good-looking to please ourselves. When married and having a quarrel, just seeing his handsome face, I can’t bear to fight anymore. Not like your brother-in-law, I wish out of sight, out of mind."
Tang Xi felt an itch in her throat and coughed twice without daring to look at Fu Tingzhou.
The ward was so quiet that even Su Xuewen’s soft voice could be heard by the third person.
Fu Tingzhou’s finger tapping on the keyboard halted momentarily.
His facial expression didn’t change at all.
After Su Xuewen left, a momentary silence fell upon the ward again.
Tang Xi regretted slightly; she had only taken a few steps before feeling dizzy again. She should have asked Su Xuewen for some sleeping pills just now, the kind that would make her sleep till the next day.
She had just closed her eyes, blanking out her mind.
Suddenly, a ringtone from a cellphone rang out, followed by Fu Tingzhou answering the call.
He seemed to lower his voice, containing something within.
"We’ll talk about these things when I get back."
"I’ll be back in a week; you can’t wait that long?"
"Send all the information to my cellphone."
"Such a big group, feeding a bunch of parasites. Get lost, as far away as possible."
Suddenly, something was thrown onto her body, Tang Xi was awakened by the impact.
Right, something had landed on her chest through the blanket.
Then the man put on his suit and said before leaving, "I’ll come over later."
Tang Xi opened her eyes hastily and said, "You don’t have to come."
Fu Tingzhou paused at the door, then turned and walked out.
Only then did Tang Xi see what had hit her chest. It was her cellphone, fully charged.
She felt that Fu Tingzhou was acting strangely today.
They had quarreled fiercely earlier in the morning over something regarding Ji Qingtan.
She even thought that with his personality, he might have slapped her on the spot.
But instead...
He actually rode a motorcycle to send her to the hospital for an IV drip and took care of her for hours.
Even thoughtfully took care of the cellphone charging.
Tang Xi touched her forehead.
Was she feverish, or was the fever making her delirious and dreaming?
Tang Xi pinched her arm forcefully.
Ouch, that hurt.
This somewhat foolish act was witnessed by Fu Tingzhou, who returned because he had left a document behind. He saw the woman on the bed pinching herself.
"Do you enjoy self-harm that much? Does Tangtang know she has a mother who likes to hurt herself?" Fu Tingzhou scoffed, picking up a folder from the bedside table.
Tang Xi’s movements stiffened.
She spoke slowly: "When Tangtang was very young she had a fever which led to encephalitis. The fever was so serious that she became unconscious, and I held her in the hospital where she was issued a critical condition notice. She was so little back then, just a tiny thing with all sorts of tubes inserted during resuscitation. I was thinking then, if anything happened to my daughter, I’d die immediately, to be with her. Tell me, is this self-harm?"
Tang Xi said this with lowered eyes.
She lacked energy, so her voice was weak and breathless.
But each word struck Fu Tingzhou’s heart.
Suddenly, he didn’t dare turn around to face Tang Xi’s expression.
He had never been part of Tangtang’s past.
Nor had he ever considered that this adorable girl once hovered on the brink of life and death.
That was his daughter.
In an instant, his heart clenched.
He knew how much Tang Xi earned, a few thousand a month, and she had to pay rent.
Fu Tingzhou couldn’t even fathom why his ex-wife was so poor, with not even a savings of tens of thousands. She lived in an ordinary residential building, ate the cheapest breakfast worth a few dollars, and wore clothes bought from night market stalls.
He had checked her bank account, the transactions were exceptionally clean.
Sometimes Fu Tingzhou wondered, she had had so many wealthy boyfriends before, a casual gift or transfer, all added up could be millions, but she seemed to have nothing.
Fu Tingzhou’s steps were stiff.
A layer of cotton seemed to be stuffed in his throat, causing discomfort and heavy suffocation.
He walked out, but did not leave the hospital. Instead, he went to a corridor to the side and lit a cigarette.
He lowered his head to watch the pedestrians downstairs outside the window, saw the elderly couple walking out of the hospital helping each other, the young men and women holding hands, the mother holding her child, the middle-aged man with a look of sadness.
There were too many different kinds of people in the hospital.
At this moment, Fu Tingzhou, as he smoked, with a cold and indifferent face, might appear to outsiders as just another role of a relative beset with hardship due to a severe illness.
"Why are you here? You can’t smoke here, the smoking area is ten meters ahead and to the left."
Su Xuewen came out of the ward pushing a medicine cart and passed by.
"Aren’t you going to accompany Tang? She has severe dizziness and fever, and it’s best to have family with her. Her condition could flare up again tonight. It’s easier if someone is by her side when she needs to go to the bathroom or drink water. Being alone when sick is the most uncomfortable; having family close by can make one feel much better."
