After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 96: A Handsome Man Leads to Trouble
When Moira Sloan whined playfully, her voice turned syrupy.
So sweet it was practically dripping.
Combine that with her sultry yet sophisticated looks, and any man who could resist must have been a saint, completely detached from worldly desires.
As Moira’s words faded, a suggestive tension filled the air.
After a few seconds, under Moira’s silken, seductive gaze, Connor Quinn killed the engine, turned, and strode toward her.
When he reached her, Moira’s red lips curved into a smile as she drew a circle on his chest with a slender fingertip. "Quite the curious one, aren’t you, Boss Quinn?"
Connor Quinn looked down. Unlike Moira’s playful flirting, his expression was serious and his voice was stern. "Wasn’t last night enough to satisfy you?"
Moira’s smile froze.
Connor added with a straight face, "I never knew you were so insatiable."
Moira’s delicate eyebrows bristled.
"Moira," Connor said, "I’m a respectable man. I don’t approve of debauchery in broad daylight."
Moira: "!!"
She’d tried to be clever and it had backfired spectacularly.
She had lifted a rock only to drop it on her own foot.
Defeated, Moira stormed into the bathroom in a huff. Connor stood watching her go, a smile lingering in his deep-set eyes.
’What a vibrant girl.’
’Not like when they first met on that blind date. Back then, her composure was an act, her charm was an act, and even her attempts to seduce him were just an act.’
When Moira came out of the bathroom, breakfast was already on the table.
She picked at her food, taking a couple of bites. Everything was delicious, but she deliberately found fault with it.
Her intention was to annoy Connor, but unfortunately, aside from *that* one area, the damn man was a total pushover in every other respect, letting her walk all over him.
After a few failed attempts to start a fight, she found it pointless, shot him two glares, and lowered her head to eat her breakfast properly.
After their meal, Moira hailed a taxi to the lacquerware shop by herself.
At the moment, she didn’t want to be alone with Connor Quinn for even a second.
A line from a song came to mind. Although the original meaning was completely different, it felt strangely appropriate for the current atmosphere between them.
"The evening stars are like your eyes, murderous and incendiary."
’Right now, my eyes are feeling pretty murderous and incendiary.’
The taxi arrived at the lacquerware shop. She paid by scanning a QR code, got out, and had just stepped into the store when she got a call from Flora Rhodes.
"Rachel Yates’s competition is the day after tomorrow. When are you coming?"
Moira casually set down her handbag and sat on the high stool behind the counter, her brow furrowing. "The day after tomorrow?"
"Yeah, did you forget?" Flora asked.
Moira didn’t deny it. "Uh-huh."
Hearing her tone, Flora let out a mischievous laugh through the phone. "So lost in a man’s arms you can’t think straight? You even forgot about your grand revenge plot?"
Moira scoffed, "Hah."
Flora’s gossipy side emerged. "So tell me, how did you and that rogue Connor Quinn end up hooking up again?"
’That phrase, "hooking up"...’
’It’s pretty intoxicating.’
’And a little naughty, too.’
Moira twirled a strand of hair around her finger. "That bastard seduced me."
Flora tsk-tsked through the phone. "He seduced you and you just took the bait? That doesn’t sound like you. Be honest, are you starting to catch feelings for Connor Quinn?"
Moira rolled her eyes. "Do you really think that’s possible?"
Flora’s voice was all smiles. "Hard to say."
Then, Flora added slyly, "Connor Quinn must be pretty good in *that* department, right? You sound like someone who’s had a taste of something exquisite and is now hooked."
Moira’s eyes narrowed as she stubbornly replied, "He’s awful."
"I don’t believe you," Flora said.
"You asked, I answered. If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do about it."
Moira and Flora chatted idly, their conversation drifting from Connor Quinn to Rachel Yates, and then from Rachel Yates to Shane Jennings.
Flora sighed. "You know, Shane Jennings is surprisingly loyal to Rachel Yates—much more than he ever was to you. The Jennings Family had just finished giving Rachel a hard time when Shane immediately turned around and sponsored her competition. Tsk."
Moira sneered but didn’t respond.
Flora, indignant on Moira’s behalf, continued, "Back when you were framed, if Shane Jennings had just said a single word in your defense, you wouldn’t have been forced to retreat to Everwood County."
A wry smile played on Moira’s lips. "I left back then because I wanted to leave. Did you really think Rachel Yates’s petty little tricks were enough to drive me away?"
This was the first time Flora had heard Moira say this, and she was stunned. "I knew it!!"
"What kind of accomplishment is it to rely on a man to get ahead?" Moira said. "I’m beautiful, and I’m going to live a life that’s even more beautiful."
After hanging up with Flora, Moira immediately booked a flight to Atheria.
She still had things to prepare. If she flew the day after tomorrow, she was afraid she’d be too late.
After booking the flight, Moira leaned against the counter for a moment, then picked up her phone, found Cassie Blanchett’s number, and sent a text: "President Blanchett, care to play a game?"
Cassie Blanchett replied instantly: ?
Moira: "I’ll take on the monsters; you can be my support."
As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
