After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 70: An Unmentionable Ailment
In her entire life, Moira Sloan had admired very few people.
Aside from her master, Kain Alden, Connor Quinn was the second.
That damn bastard had human weakness figured out completely.
Listening to Connor Quinn spouting utter nonsense with a straight face on the other end of the line, Moira’s head was buzzing.
Given her personality, she really should have said something, but she didn’t dare...
She was afraid of blowing her cover.
Most importantly, she was afraid Shauna Duane would overhear.
Sure enough, the second after Connor Quinn finished speaking, she heard Shauna Duane start to cry.
She couldn’t make out what Shauna Duane was crying about. It was all a jumbled mess, but one thing was clear: the girl was crying her heart out.
It was a full half-hour before the other end of the line finally went quiet. Moira just kept holding the phone, her breathing shallow, her resentment deep.
Hearing that Shauna Duane had left, Moira spoke with a wry smile, "Connor Quinn."
Connor Quinn’s voice was deep. "I’m here."
Moira enunciated every word, "You. Are. Something. Else!!"
With that, Moira hung up, gritting her teeth.
After the call disconnected, Moira leaned against the wall to collect herself for a moment. Her desire to take a shower was gone. She walked to the fridge, pulled out a can of cold beer, and took a couple of sips.
The anger in her heart subsided a bit. She picked up her phone and sent Shauna Duane a WeChat message: *Taking you off the schedule for a week. Go have some fun.*
After sending the message, she transferred two thousand yuan to Shauna Duane.
Shauna Duane accepted the money instantly.
It just goes to show, you can’t let pride get in the way of money.
After accepting the money, Shauna Duane sent her three voice messages, hitching three sobs for every word. You could tell she was genuinely heartbroken.
"M-Moira Sloan, I... I finally see men for what they are."
"C-Connor Quinn is a total scumbag."p>
"Th-that woman... she can’t be a decent woman. Wh-what kind of decent woman would leave so many hickeys on a man’s neck?"
When Moira heard the first two sentences, she was actually happy for Shauna Duane, thinking she’d finally come to her senses and escaped a toxic situation.
But upon hearing the third, Moira’s lips twitched. ’Tsk. I paid her too soon.’
After that little episode, Shauna Duane didn’t show up for the next week.
She would occasionally contact Moira on WeChat, sending pictures of herself eating and drinking.
Sometimes Moira replied, sometimes she was too busy. She was completely occupied with Cassie Blanchett’s two items and had no extra time for idle chat.
As for her and Connor Quinn, they had entered a state of being familiar, yet not.
They would exchange polite nods and greetings when they saw each other, but that *thing* between them didn’t happen again, and they rarely contacted each other privately.
On the day she learned something had happened to Rachel Yates, Connor Quinn was being cornered in the alley next to the tattoo shop by a confidante with a stunningly hot figure.
Moira had originally been heading to the convenience store across the street to buy some mineral water when she inadvertently spotted the two of them.
She scanned the code to pay, texting Flora Rhodes with her head down while squinting to watch the entangled pair in the alley.
The beautiful woman seemed very forward, but Connor Quinn still wore that same expressionless poker face, cold as death.
As Moira watched the drama unfold, the proprietress of the convenience store joined in. "Boss Quinn is a real lady-killer. This is the third one this month, isn’t it?"
Moira sipped her mineral water and responded nonchalantly, "Is that so?"
The proprietress teased, "You’re new here, so you wouldn’t know. A lot of young girls get tattoos every day just to chase after Boss Quinn."
Moira raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips. "Do they have that much space on their bodies to tattoo?" 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
The proprietress chuckled. "Who knows? Young girls, you know... they’ll risk anything for love."
As she spoke, the proprietress leaned closer to Moira and asked gossipily, "By the way, your shop is the closest to Boss Quinn’s. Haven’t you noticed him getting particularly close to any woman?"
Moira looked back at the proprietress, smiling sweetly. "Nope."
The proprietress’s curiosity was piqued. "Boss Quinn is so handsome. Why hasn’t he ever gotten a girlfriend?"
Moira chuckled softly. "Maybe he has some kind of hidden affliction?"
They were both adults. The phrase "hidden affliction" could only bring one thing to mind.
The proprietress was first stunned, then it dawned on her. Finally, she slapped the countertop, and just as she was about to say something, the convenience store door was pushed open, and Connor Quinn’s tall figure strode in.
The words the proprietress was about to say got stuck in her throat. Her gaze traveled down from Connor Quinn’s chiseled face...
Noticing the proprietress’s look, Connor Quinn frowned. "Mrs. Warren, cigarettes."
Hearing the edge in Connor Quinn’s tone, the proprietress realized her gaffe and tried to smooth things over with a nervous laugh. "Oh, Quinn, don’t get the wrong idea, haha! I was just chatting with Boss Sloan, saying how you’re so charming and have so many girls after you, but you never seem to fall for any of them. Boss Sloan was just joking that maybe you have some kind of hidden affliction..."
As the proprietress finished, Connor Quinn turned to look at Moira, raising a thick eyebrow. "A hidden affliction? Me?"
’Damn it!’ Moira cursed internally.
