After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 54: A Silken Gaze
Moira Sloan was beautiful.
Stunningly beautiful, in fact.
The phrase "beautiful and brazen" seemed tailor-made for her.
Connor Quinn just watched quietly as Moira Sloan stood before him like a captivating Siren.
His eyes were dark and deep, but he didn’t move.
He knew perfectly well that Moira was getting back at him.
Revenge for leaving her high and dry last night.
Sure enough, after staring at him for a moment, Moira gave a provocative flick of her eyes, then turned and went into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her with a SLAM.
Staring at the closed bathroom door, Connor Quinn’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
After a long moment, he picked up his beer and took a hard swig.
The beer was ice-cold, just what he needed to cool his inner fire.
In the bathroom, Moira’s revenge was a success. Her frustration vanished, leaving her feeling refreshed and invigorated.
After dinner, they maintained their usual arrangement: one in the bedroom, the other on the living room sofa.
It was as if they were locked in a silent competition.
A clash of masters, and for the moment, it was impossible to tell who was leading whom on.
That night, Moira was fast asleep when she heard what sounded like Connor Quinn on the phone in the living room.
His voice was low, however, and she couldn’t hear him clearly.
Besides, she wasn’t particularly interested in his conversation anyway, so she just rolled over and drifted back to sleep.
Connor Quinn was indeed on the phone. The call was from the person who had delivered his car before.
"Connor, I got you a new car this time. It’s a step up from the Valoria. I guarantee you’ll love it."
Connor’s voice was cold. "Don’t bother."
The person on the other end was stunned. "Huh?"
Connor was succinct. "I’m broke right now. I can’t afford a car."
The caller was floored. "Connor, are you bankrupt?"
Connor said, "Yeah."
With that, he hung up without waiting for a reply.
After ending the call, Connor tossed his phone aside, laced a hand behind his head, and stared out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the nightscape.
The neon lights blazed, and the stars twinkled in the distance.
Meanwhile, the man who had just hung up with Connor immediately dialed another number.
When the other person picked up, he couldn’t hide his shock. "Murray, did you know Connor is bankrupt?"
The person on the other end of the line seemed to already know what was going on, and replied teasingly, "He’s not bankrupt, he’s just disastrously horny, isn’t he?"
「The next day.」
Moira Sloan woke up at seven on the dot. When she walked into the suite’s living room, she didn’t see Connor Quinn.
She glanced around lazily. A grown man wasn’t likely to get lost, so she didn’t give it much thought. She drank a glass of water and did some yoga in the morning light.
The sun was perfect right then—not glaring, just warm.
After a simple half-hour workout, she’d broken a light sweat and felt sticky. Wrinkling her nose in distaste, she turned and went into the bathroom.
She had no plans for the day. Her main goal was to rest, recharge, and do her skincare routine in preparation for tomorrow’s battlefield.
After her shower, she heard a noise from the living room. She raised an eyebrow. Just as she was about to reach for the towel she’d tossed aside, the bathroom door was suddenly and unexpectedly pushed open from the outside.
The sudden turn of events made the atmosphere freeze instantly.
Moira’s hand, reaching for the towel, froze. Her slender back went ramrod straight.
In her peripheral vision, Moira could see that Connor Quinn was now dressed immaculately in a suit. It was a stark contrast to her, standing there completely naked.
Thinking about how he had been leading her on for the past two days, Moira took a breath, unwilling to be at a disadvantage now. Her ears turned red as she reached for the towel, about to cover herself.
But before her fingertips could even touch it, the man behind her suddenly strode forward and snatched the towel away first.
Moira’s heart clenched, and she instinctively turned her head.
Her almond-shaped eyes flew wide, but before the angry words could leave her lips, her red mouth was captured in a kiss...
...
[Censored]
Just as they were both about to reach their peak, the phone in Connor Quinn’s pocket suddenly rang at the most inopportune moment.
Connor’s movements paused, and he reached to pull out his phone.
Moira, tingling all over, gasped and turned to look at him.
A playful pout, a hint of indignation, a smoldering gaze.
Meeting her mournful, resentful gaze, Connor’s eyes darkened. He swiped his thumb across the screen to answer and said in a hoarse voice, "Shane Jennings, what is it?"
