After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 154: Her Boyfriend, Boss Quinn
Moira’s voice was soft and delicate, tinged with a hint of seduction.
When she finished, Connor turned to look at her.
Their eyes met. For some reason, Moira’s heart clenched, but she feigned composure and blinked at him.
Connor asked, "Are you sure?"
Moira said, "Yes, I’m sure."
Connor said in a husky voice, "Alright."
What followed happened naturally.
Going from friends with benefits to boyfriend and girlfriend changed the feel of everything, even this.
In the past, she’d always been a little reserved. But today, whether it was because they’d made their relationship official or because some switch had been flipped, she was incredibly clingy, wrapping herself tightly around him.
As he carried her out of the bathroom, Moira was curled up in Connor’s arms.
Now that their relationship was official, she grew even more brazen.
Her hair had been dried in the bathroom. Wrapped in a large bath towel, she had an utterly alluring air about her.
A moment later, he placed her on the bed, kissed her forehead, and went back into the bathroom.
Hearing the sound of running water from the bathroom, followed by the flick of a lighter, Moira guessed Connor was probably washing her wet dress and underwear.
The corners of Moira’s lips curled up, and she closed her eyes in contentment.
A few minutes later, just as Moira was about to fall asleep, her phone, which she’d tossed in the living room, suddenly blared.
She opened her eyes and furrowed her brow. Connor walked in with her phone and handed it to her.
Moira pouted. "Who is it?"
Connor said in a low voice, "Flora Rhodes."
At the name, Moira’s expression instantly softened. She took the phone from Connor and answered it.
"Hello."
Moira had just said "hello" when Flora’s dramatic voice came from the other end. "A clap of thunder from the heavens, and your humble servant makes her dazzling debut! Miss Sloan, I’ve brought you more piping-hot tea."
Moira couldn’t help but laugh. "Pray tell."
Flora said, "First off, your ex-boyfriend with the spotty record? He’s probably getting a divorce."
Moira raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
’A divorce so soon after the wedding?’
’By any normal person’s logic, considering what Shane Jennings has been up to lately, divorcing him a hundred times over wouldn’t be excessive.’
’But Shane and Cassie’s marriage was a business alliance.’
’A marriage like that might seem like it’s just about the two of them, but it’s really a matter between the Jennings and Blanchett families.’
’There were complex interests at stake; one wrong move could affect everything.’
’Could they be so rash?’
Flora continued, "Cassie’s the one who brought it up. Tsk, tsk. What a badass. Apparently, Rachel Yates was getting hassled by her boss, and that scumbag Shane stepped in to defend her. When Cassie found out, she immediately filed for divorce."
A smile spread across Moira’s face. "Good for her."
’I have to admit, I kind of admire this side of Cassie.’
’She’s decisive. Even if she’d developed feelings for him, she wouldn’t drag things out.’
Flora chuckled. "And for the second scoop: no sooner had Cassie asked Shane for a divorce than Rachel Yates agreed to start dating Finn Fuller."
Moira gave a small laugh. "What’s her angle?"
Flora said, "See, you don’t get it. This is what I mean when I say you’re inexperienced with relationships. It’s all about playing a man’s psychology. Think about it: right now, Shane is feeling suffocated by Cassie’s dominance. He’s bound to start missing how sweet and gentle Rachel was. But the moment he turns back to her, he finds out she has a boyfriend. What do you think will happen then?"
Moira said with a scornful, confident tone, "Relax. Shane will do absolutely nothing."
’Even if he wanted to, he wouldn’t have the guts.’
’Who is Shane, after all?’
’He’s the CEO of the prestigious Jennings Group.’
’He has too much riding on him. When he was with me, he was always terrified of making a wrong move. No matter how much he liked me, he still chose the strategic marriage in the end.’
’A woman like Rachel Yates isn’t worth the risk for him.’
’Besides, he already has my case as a cautionary tale. How could he be stupid enough to make the same mistake twice?’
When Moira finished, Flora laughed. "Well, whether he makes a move or not, the drama between those three is the talk of our social circle right now."
Moira commented, "How lively."
Flora teased, "What if Shane actually gets divorced and comes crawling back to you, begging you to take him back?"
Moira scoffed. "Just because he begs me to take him back doesn’t mean I have to accept. Who does he think he is?"
’Is he trying to pull that "prodigal son returns" act on me?’
’Sorry, but I’m only interested in the gold, not the prodigal.’
Flora giggled. "True that."
Then Moira changed the subject. She glanced up at Connor, who was standing by the bed, and said, "Besides, I have a boyfriend now."
Flora’s laughter came to an abrupt halt.
Moira introduced him matter-of-factly, "It’s someone you know. Connor Quinn. Boss Quinn."
