After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 92: I Hit You, This Cheap Girl, So What?!
Su Xiyang immediately stood up and straightened her clothes. Reluctantly, Shen Fanyun moved his hand away, his expression one of lingering desire.
Su Xiyang glared at him. "Be serious."
"Alright, alright," Shen Fanyun complied, deciding to go downstairs with her.
Public opinion was already fermenting and escalating. If Su Xiyang didn’t respond, who knew how far the situation would spiral? Furthermore, these journalists had abysmally low standards. They were so malicious, sensationalizing unverified claims. How was that any different from openly spreading rumors? They even had the gall to insist they had personally witnessed Su Xiyang entering various major hotels with several married men.
"Hu Meng?" Shen Fanyun muttered. This so-called chief editor from the news world has seriously damaged my impression of all media personnel. When I get a moment, I’ll definitely have to ask this Miss Hu in person which of her eyes saw Su Xiyang entering hotels with different men.
As they exited the elevator, Su Xiyang and Shen Fanyun spotted Su Ke almost simultaneously. The old man had also shown up, and of course, Su Ziye’s mother, Chen Wen, was standing with him. Leaning on his cane, Su Ke deliberately straightened his back as he stood at the company’s entrance, giving an interview.
"I am deeply sorry that my Su Family has produced such an unworthy granddaughter.
"At the same time, I am also shocked and find it difficult to accept Su Xiyang’s indecent private life. If her behavior has destroyed anyone’s family, I am willing to apologize on her behalf right here and now!"
Su Ke sighed, gripping his cane with a heartbroken expression.
"Weren’t you supposed to be so angry you were coughing up blood in the hospital?" Shen Fanyun murmured. This old scoundrel really knows how to play the media. First, he bribed people in the media to launch a vicious smear campaign against Su Xiyang. Then, he rushed over to her company to play the part of a responsible and deeply concerned elder giving a public interview.
"Ah, I’m truly sorry to have made a spectacle of my family," Su Ke said, shaking his head until he nearly burst into tears. "But this is ultimately a family matter. I truly didn’t want such a scandal to trouble all of you."
His performance moved the sympathetic crowd. They began comforting Su Ke, telling him to take care of his health. They reasoned that when the younger generation is unfilial or acts improperly, it is their fault, and an elder like him shouldn’t have to bear the pain. For Su Ke to bravely step forward, explain the situation, and apologize on Su Xiyang’s behalf was surely worthy of everyone’s understanding.
"Ah, but that isn’t what pains me most. What truly breaks my heart is seeing our family tear itself apart," he lamented. "Ziye is such a good child, and now she’s in prison. I don’t even know if she’s scared in there... It’s all my fault for failing to raise her properly, for making Ziye suffer like this."
Su Ke looked up again, his tone shifting as if he had made a great resolution. He declared, "I will now formally state my position. As long as Xi Yan admits her mistakes and withdraws the baseless accusations against Ziye...
"...from this day forward, she is still a part of the Su Family! I will still acknowledge her as my granddaughter!"
So that’s the real point. He was using the court of public opinion, seizing the moral high ground to indirectly pressure Su Xiyang into dropping the accusations against Su Ziye. If Su Xiyang refused, her reputation would be destroyed today, and she might even lose her footing in Hangcheng City. But if she agreed, not only would Su Ziye be freed, but Su Ke himself would earn a reputation for being magnanimous and righteous. It was a perfect plan to kill two birds with one stone. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
As for Su Xiyang? Su Ke didn’t care that his actions might have a lasting negative impact on her, or even cause her harm.
A young woman in a gray blazer stood with her hands on her hips, deliberately raising her voice as she demanded righteously, "Su Xiyang! The old man has thrown away his pride just to say a few good words for you over this mess! And you? Are you just going to hide in your shell like a turtle? Get out here and respond! Don’t make me, Hu Meng, look down on you! Since you’ve committed such disgraceful acts, you should face the consequences. What, you think you can just hide and pretend the ironclad facts don’t exist?"
"Hu Meng?" Shen Fanyun’s eyes lit up, then flashed with a cold light. He cocked his head, asking Su Xiyang, "That chief editor?"
"It’s her," Su Xiyang confirmed, her gaze fixed on the woman.
Shen Fanyun smirked coldly. I was just planning to find some time to meet this so-called Chief Editor Hu. I can’t believe she delivered herself to my doorstep. Perfect. This saves me a lot of trouble.
"I have no intention of hiding, nor do I have any reason to," Su Xiyang declared as she stepped into the crowd. "Besides, I, Su Xiyang, have always had a clear conscience. What would I have to hide?"
She stared at Hu Meng, this supposed chief editor she had never met before. Why would this woman, a complete stranger, harbor such intense malice toward me? Why would she use such vile words against me? I really want to know how I could have possibly offended her.
"Hah! You talk a big game!" Hu Meng sneered.
Shen Fanyun stepped closer, disapproving of Su Xiyang’s calm engagement. "Why are you wasting your time on this sort of person?"
He strode right up to Hu Meng and looked down at her. "Hu Meng?"
"That’s right, it’s me," Hu Meng replied, lifting her chin, her short hair flying.
"You wrote the article?" Shen Fanyun asked again.
With resolute eyes, Hu Meng declared, "I did!"
"And in that article," Shen Fanyun said slowly, "you emphatically claimed multiple times to have personally seen Su Xiyang entering hotels with different men?"
Hu Meng just scoffed, preparing to ignore him.
Without another word, Shen Fanyun raised his huge palm and, in front of everyone, slapped her hard across the face.
Caught completely off guard, Hu Meng staggered back several large steps and nearly collapsed. Five clear, red finger marks immediately appeared on her pretty, made-up face.
"You..." Hu Meng stammered, utterly shocked. Why would he suddenly hit her?
Shen Fanyun sneered. "I’ll give you one hour. Bring me your evidence. If I find out you were just spouting lies and maliciously slandering Xi Yan, I will gouge out your eyes. Since you tell lies with them wide open, what use are they to you anyway!"
Hu Meng was left speechless.
The crowd was stunned into silence.
"How dare you hit me?" Hu Meng raged, unable to accept that she had been slapped in such a public setting.
Shen Fanyun nodded. "I not only dare to hit you, I dare to kill you."
"Want to try me?"
Hu Meng was left utterly speechless.
A palpable chill spread through the air. The pack of journalists, who loved nothing more than stirring up trouble, now clamped their mouths shut to a man, not daring to make a peep.
