After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 40, Just a Bunch of Clowns!
Although Su Ziye and Su Xiyang were both members of the Su family, their relationship had never been good. From Su Ziye’s perspective, he would gladly sacrifice the Su Family’s dignity if it meant embarrassing Su Xiyang. He was the type to stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
"Look at you, spouting nonsense and angering this crowd of elders and peers." Su Ziye stepped out from the crowd, demanding that Su Xiyang apologize for her earlier remarks.
Su Xiyang was astonished. Apologize? I haven’t said anything, so what is there to apologize for? Besides, when this crowd jumped out one by one to mock the Su Family, I didn’t see anyone show the slightest bit of guilt.
"Mind your own business," Su Xiyang said, not bothering to engage with him.
Shen Fanyun had always disliked noisy occasions. The incessant clamor of everyone chiming in was giving him a headache. "I’ll get you an invitation. Just a moment." He pulled out his phone and sent a quick text message.
At his words, the noisy scene quieted down somewhat.
"Can he really get an invitation to the inner area? Is he for real?"
"Nonsense, of course it’s fake. If he had one, he would’ve been inside long ago. Why would he still be out here babbling with us?"
Most of the crowd didn’t believe him. Thinking it over, it did indeed seem impossible.
"Young man, if you can get inside, I’ll eat a pound of shit right here in front of everyone!" a pudgy, middle-aged man with yellowed teeth standing behind Su Ziye crowed.
Shen Fanyun was inwardly amazed. What an offer. Strange people truly come in all forms these days. What’s so delicious about shit?
The crowd roared with laughter. Some shook their heads, thinking Shen Fanyun was too frivolous for his age, telling bigger and bigger lies just to save face. They were all curious to see how he would get himself out of this mess.
"Can you really do it?" Su Xiyang asked cautiously.
Shen Fanyun shrugged. "Why would I lie to you?"
"Their boss personally invited me this morning, but I turned him down because it seemed like a hassle. If I’d known you were coming, I could have saved us the trouble," Shen Fanyun stated with utter confidence.
The crowd was speechless. This young brat’s claims are getting more and more ridiculous. The owner of Brilliant Building personally invited him? Does he have any idea what kind of earth-shattering figure the big boss behind Brilliant Building is?
"Haha, you’re killing me! The owner of Brilliant Building personally invited you? Buddy, are you an idiot? There should be a limit to bragging." Zhang Tao, the pudgy, middle-aged man behind Su Ziye, spoke up again with sheer arrogance, staring at Shen Fanyun as if he were a complete fool.
Even Su Xiyang was starting to have her doubts. It was just too far-fetched. An inner-area invitation to Brilliant Building was something she wouldn’t even dare to dream of. As impressive as Shen Fanyun was, it was unlikely he had enough clout to make powerful people from the Capital City show him deference.
As the crowd of spectators hoping for a spectacle grew, Su Xiyang became increasingly uncomfortable. She wanted nothing more than to pull Shen Fanyun away. "Maybe we should just go?" she pleaded.
She knew he was trying to stand up for her, but this was clearly unrealistic. She wouldn’t blame him if he failed; the thought was what counted.
"Where do you think you’re going?" Gu Duo chimed in, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "So many of us are waiting for your precious invitation to arrive. If you leave, how will we get to see the rest of the show?"
"Haha, look! They can’t keep up the act, so they’re trying to run!" someone jeered.
"The Su Family is such a disgrace!" another added.
Gu Duo had been about to needle Su Xiyang further when she glanced up and saw a young man in a sharp suit hurrying toward them.
Xu Yang. He was the manager in charge of order inside Brilliant Building and a Hangcheng City local. It was thanks to Xu Yang that Gu Duo had managed to secure a front-row seat in the outer area. They had even agreed that Xu Yang would find time to come over and arrange things for her once she arrived.
"Manager Xu, hello." Gu Duo thought, How polite of him. I haven’t even contacted him, and he came out to find me himself.
"When did you arrive?" Xu Yang asked in surprise as he greeted her.
Gu Duo nodded. "Just a little while ago. I was held up, so I couldn’t contact you right away. I’m sorry to trouble you to come find me personally!"
The crowd watched with envy. None of them were qualified to enter the inner area for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, so they had all resorted to their own clever tricks to secure the best possible spots in the outer area. Because of this, they all recognized Xu Yang, the manager in charge of the inner area. Seeing him chat so pleasantly and familiarly with Gu Duo—and even personally arranging her seat—shocked them all. This was a display of the Gu Family’s true power! While it was nothing compared to the titans who had access to the inner area, among this crowd, they were still a force to be reckoned with.
"Since you’re here, I’ll go with you to confirm my seat," Gu Duo said with a smile. She then shot a mocking glance at Su Xiyang. "I won’t play with you anymore. We can talk after the ceremony is over."
"Ah?" Xu Yang looked awkward and shrugged. "Miss Gu, I’m terribly sorry, but I’m busy right now and can’t accompany you. Besides, it’s just a seat in the outer area. There’s nothing to fuss over. You can just go sit in the front row."
Gu Duo froze. He didn’t come here to meet me?
"Excuse me," Xu Yang said, looking around politely. "Which one of you is Mr. Shen?"
Su Xiyang’s eyes lit up as she quickly pointed at Shen Fanyun. "That’s him."
All eyes in the crowd snapped toward Shen Fanyun. What does this mean? Did the kid actually manage to get an inner-area invitation?
"Mr. Shen, I rushed over as soon as I got the message. I hope I haven’t kept you waiting." Xu Yang extended a hand, gesturing for Shen Fanyun to follow him. "Shall I lead you inside?"
Gu Duo, Su Ziye, and the entire crowd were all speechless.
Su Xiyang was stunned. "You... you really did it?"
"Is it that surprising?" Shen Fanyun remained calm.
Gu Duo watched helplessly as Xu Yang brushed her aside to give Shen Fanyun a warm reception, his attitude nothing short of reverential. What on earth is going on?
"Was there some kind of mistake?" Gu Duo demanded, unwilling to let it go.
Xu Yang’s brows knitted together. "Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t. Go to your seat and stay put. If you don’t want to be here, you can leave at any time. Your presence or absence will have no impact on this ribbon-cutting ceremony!"
Gu Duo was speechless once more. That was a direct, merciless slap to my own face!
"Mr. Shen, and this lady, shall we go?" Xu Yang said, his smile returning as he addressed Shen Fanyun and Su Xiyang.
Su Xiyang felt as if she were in a dream. "Oh, oh, yes. Thank you for your trouble!"
For a moment, the entire venue fell silent.
Just minutes ago, they had been relentlessly mocking Su Xiyang. Now, looking back, they realized they had all become the clowns.
