After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 255: Why are you being so dramatic when playing yourself?
Wen Ruyue would never accept such a humiliating role. If she actually performed in it, there would be only one outcome: the destruction of her image and public appeal. In that case, no amount of money could salvage her reputation.
Wen Ruyue was keenly aware of the importance of her reputation and image. A career downturn was a terrifying thing.
Therefore, she would never give in today, even if it meant going on strike and causing endless trouble for the production team. Not unless the script was adjusted to her satisfaction.
Her words were aimed at the director, but they were actually an implicit warning to Shen Fanyun, reminding him of her influence and pivotal status.
If he irritated Wen Ruyue, Shen Fanyun would undoubtedly suffer the greatest loss. It was a mutually destructive path, and if Shen Fanyun had any sense, he would know how to choose.
"That’s right. My Sister Wen absolutely cannot do anything that would ruin her image."
"Boss Shen, I hope you understand who is more important to this drama. Any other sponsor would be falling over themselves to pamper our Sister Wen, not like you."
Li Juan stepped forward to defend Wen Ruyue, even accusing Shen Fanyun of not understanding who really called the shots.
How dare he show such disrespect to Wen Ruyue? Is he not afraid of royally screwing this up, to the point where no one would dare act in his productions again?
"You’re ruining your own reputation by doing this. Believe it or not, if Sister Wen says the word, no one will be willing to work with you.
"A collective boycott would leave you unable to make it in this industry."
Li Juan spoke with absolute certainty, growing more and more outrageous until she was actually threatening Shen Fanyun.
Shen Fanyun sneered, "What did you say?"
With her hands on her hips, Li Juan glared at Shen Fanyun. With Wen Ruyue backing me, what do I have to fear?
Everyone knew she was Wen Ruyue’s loyal subordinate, her most trusted confidante. Offending her was no different from offending Wen Ruyue herself.
"I said—" Before Li Juan could finish, she saw Shen Fanyun striding toward her.
SLAP!
A resounding slap landed on Li Juan’s cheek, leaving the entire set utterly silent.
Even Wen Ruyue’s eyes widened in disbelief, thinking she must have seen wrong.
"When did a nobody like you get the right to butt in? You’re nothing but a dog raised by Wen Ruyue."
"Your master hasn’t even started acting up, yet your tail is already sticking up."
Shen Fanyun scoffed with disdain. "You? You want to order me around? Or do you think you have the right to give me your opinion? The kind where you point your finger in my face?"
Li Juan was speechless.
"Say one more word of nonsense. I dare you."
Li Juan remained silent.
The slap had completely dumbfounded her. She covered her face, taking a long while to recover. Shen Fanyun’s remarks, in particular, were tantamount to grinding her dignity under his heel.
"Offending your master means offending the entire industry? You’ll have me blacklisted with a single word?"
Shen Fanyun swung his hand and slapped her across the face again. "Who gave you the nerve to be so arrogant, so self-important?"
"Even your master wouldn’t dare say such things. Where do you get the audacity to spout such utter nonsense?"
SLAP!
The third slap sent Li Juan sprawling to the ground. Her face was burning hot, stinging under the meaningful gazes of everyone present.
She felt a deep sense of humiliation.
For years, she had lived a pampered life at Wen Ruyue’s side as her most trusted confidante. Everyone she met treated her with the utmost respect, nodding and bowing. Most didn’t even have the courage to speak loudly in her presence.
When had she ever been hit? And beaten right in front of Wen Ruyue, no less?
As the saying goes, you look at the master before you hit the dog. Was Shen Fanyun being too audacious? It was as if he had no regard for anyone, completely dismissing Wen Ruyue.
Clutching her face, Li Juan broke into loud sobs. "Sister Wen, Sister Wen! This guy is inhuman! Look, he hit me! He actually dared to hit me!"
Exasperated by her whining, Shen Fanyun kicked her over. "Are you some precious master? So I’m not allowed to hit you? Why shouldn’t I dare? Who told you to run your damn mouth?"
Li Juan was silenced.
Wen Ruyue was stunned.
The entire crew was speechless.
Damn, this big-shot financier really had guts. They had been in the industry for years and had never seen anyone dare to discipline one of Wen Ruyue’s people.
Although as Wen Ruyue’s trusted confidante, Li Juan was mostly difficult, liked to deliberately stir up trouble, and was indeed quite annoying.
"You... what exactly are you trying to do?"
Wen Ruyue couldn’t sit still any longer. Shen Fanyun’s behavior was beyond anything she could have imagined.
All morning, Shen Fanyun had done nothing but give her a harsh dressing-down, and now he was targeting her agent. This... Next, is he going to publicly slap me, an A-lister in the entertainment industry?
"Apologize! I want you to apologize to my agent!" Wen Ruyue commanded through gritted teeth, pointing at Li Juan, who was sitting on the ground, weeping into her hands.
"If you don’t apologize, this collaboration is over. I’m leaving right now!" Wen Ruyue played her trump card.
If she walked, the entire project would be dead in the water, and Shen Fanyun would face a massive loss of at least a hundred million.
That figure was a significant sum even for Wen Ruyue. She didn’t believe Shen Fanyun would be willing to lose a hundred million just for a moment of pride.
Shen Fanyun touched his nose and smiled. "Miss Wen. Have you forgotten we have a contract?"
"You signed it. You think you can just ignore the contract and walk away? What do you think this place is, a public market?"
Wen Ruyue was at a loss for words.
"You hit my agent!"
"Your agent was running her mouth. So what if I hit her? What does that have to do with the contract?" Shen Fanyun continued, "She’s just a nobody. She got hit, and that’s that."
"Surely you’re not going to breach the contract over a mere dog?"
Wen Ruyue was stumped.
Right, if I leave in a huff over Li Juan, I’ll lose a huge amount of income for nothing... It seems... I’d be the one losing out!
Instantly, Wen Ruyue began to hesitate.
Then she thought about the script problem, which was also causing her grief. She paused, then continued, "I can let the matter with my agent go."
"But... but the script must be changed. I will not accept such a role!" Wen Ruyue stated firmly.
"What’s not to accept?" Shen Fanyun asked, feigning ignorance. "Isn’t this how you are in real life?"
"It’s tailor-made for you. All you have to do is be yourself. What’s there to adjust?"
Wen Ruyue was speechless.
What did he mean by that? She stared at Shen Fanyun with a wary gaze, sensing the subtle mockery hidden in his words.
