After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 241: Are you really not afraid of death, still talking back?
A barrage of words rendered Xu Fang speechless. She moved her lips, wanting to refute Lu Feiyan, but for a moment, couldn’t find an appropriate reason or excuse.
"Anyway, everyone outside thinks you plagiarized," Xu Fang finally retorted, feeling instantly refreshed. "It’s already set in stone. Yelling at me won’t change anything. You can’t turn black into white; a fact is a fact."
Lu Feiyan said, "Everyone in the company is aware of the resources I have. By slandering me like this, aren’t you afraid I’ll settle the score with you later?"
Her words hit a nerve, and the young woman didn’t dare make another sound. After all, Lu Feiyan’s resources were completely unprecedented. The company’s senior management had once suspected President Wang Tuohai was trying to promote his own daughter, but even that wouldn’t warrant this level of exaggerated support. Over time, a growing resentment festered among the company’s other artists, who were all hungry for their chance to rise.
With Lu Feiyan now embroiled in this incident, quite a few of her colleagues were waiting for a show, hoping the matter would escalate. If it couldn’t be contained, her downfall was bound to be miserable.
Xu Fang was naturally wary of who might be backing Lu Feiyan. After all, having Wang Tuohai’s support to this degree was just short of being placed directly on a pedestal. It was unrealistic to think she had no one behind her. However, the entertainment industry was different from the outside world. Once you made a mistake and ruined your reputation, not even the boss could protect you. Such examples were common.
As the saying goes, fortune favors the bold. With Lu Feiyan mired in controversy, it was the perfect time to pull her down. Therefore, Xu Fang dared to be the first to jump out and "advise" Lu Feiyan to admit her plagiarism. Once Lu Feiyan agreed and apologized, Xu Fang planned to release a video taking credit for her "earnest persuasion." Fame would be practically guaranteed. Moreover, the thought of rising to fame by stepping on Lu Feiyan was thrilling and filled her with a sense of accomplishment. Once you were famous, no one cared about the methods you used. Even if the boss saw through it, he wouldn’t say much. After all, a famous artist was a money tree, and who would want to argue with a money tree?
However, her persuasion didn’t seem to be having much of an effect. Lu Feiyan’s stance was firm, and she adamantly denied everything.
"I don’t want to see you right now. Leave immediately," Lu Feiyan said, ordering her out.
"Hmph," Xu Fang snorted coldly. With a scandal this big, let’s see how long you can hold on. "I was kind enough to give you advice, but you’re ungrateful. Lu Feiyan, you really, really... you just don’t know what’s good for you."
Muttering that Lu Feiyan didn’t know what was good for her, Xu Fang turned and disappeared.
Lu Feiyan resumed practicing her guitar. In truth, she desperately wanted to call Shen Fanyun right then. But if I turn to him for help every time I’m in trouble, wouldn’t that make me seem too irresponsible? Too cowardly?
"How depressing," Lu Feiyan said with a self-deprecating laugh.
Shen Fanyun’s business van arrived in an old residential district in Hangcheng City. Before he even got out, Zhan Feng pointed to a plump woman on the street.
Shen Fanyun frowned. The woman was under thirty, with a heavy build, wearing a gray shirt, and clutching a large armful of potato chips. She looked very ordinary.
"Is that her?" Shen Fanyun asked.
Zhan Feng shrugged. "Yep."
Just then, Sudan Dan happened to turn her head, and Shen Fanyun saw clearly that this was indeed the original uploader of the video.
Seems like she’s in a good mood.
Sudan Dan ambled along, humming a light, cheerful tune. Unable to resist her cravings, she tore open a bag of chips and ate as she walked.
Shen Fanyun and Zhan Feng got out of the car. Zhan Feng gestured, asking if he should make a move.
"Why be so rough in the middle of the street?" Shen Fanyun clicked his lighter, lit a cigarette, and passed another one to Zhan Feng.
The girl, completely absorbed in her snacking, never realized she was being followed.
The moment she opened the door to her ground-floor rented apartment, Zhan Feng grabbed the back of her head and shoved her inside. Shen Fanyun gently closed the door behind them.
"Ah! Wh-who are you?" Sudan Dan cried out in terror, instinctively covering her body.
Zhan Feng burst out laughing. "Lady, we’re not here to assault you."
Sudan Dan’s expression flashed with what looked like deep insult, and she lunged, trying to bite Zhan Feng.
Shen Fanyun barely found a place to sit down in the cluttered room. He then took out his phone, pulled up a video, and showed it to her. "You?"
Sudan Dan’s brow furrowed. After wrenching herself free from Zhan Feng’s grip, she snarled, "What do you want?"
"The video was indeed posted by me."
"As a fan of Lu Feiyan, I’m disgusted by her actions. She doesn’t deserve my support. She’s a thief! A common criminal!"
"What, can’t a person even speak the truth these days? You... you were sent by Lu Feiyan, weren’t you?"
"Great! That self-righteous, utterly hypocritical woman dares to retaliate. She truly doesn’t deserve my support!"
Just look at her, so full of righteous indignation and baseless confidence.
Shen Fanyun rubbed his forehead. "I checked your phone’s history. Since when have you been a fan of Lu Feiyan? Before you posted this video, the name ’Lu Feiyan’ doesn’t appear in a single one of your searches, nor is there any news about her in your browsing history.
"You’re quite the casual fan, aren’t you? And yet, in the video, you’re overflowing with grievances and dissatisfaction. Did she really make you that furious?"
Sudan Dan was speechless. "I... I got a new phone! Is that a problem?"
"Heh," Zhan Feng scoffed. "Now that we’ve found you, don’t you know perfectly well in your own heart whether you have ulterior motives or are a genuine fan?"
"Whatever! I’m not wasting my breath on you. Lu Feiyan is just a bad person, end of story!" Sudan Dan stretched her limbs and then tried to warn them, "This is breaking and entering! I’m going to call the police!"
SLAP!
Shen Fanyun’s hand whipped out, striking Sudan Dan across the face. His tone turned frigid. "Sobered up yet?"
The slap left her dizzy and disoriented, and a trickle of crimson blood oozed from the corner of her mouth. In the dim light, his gaze was indifferent, utterly devoid of emotion. Her heart skipped a beat as fear suddenly washed over her.
"I... I..." Sudan Dan stammered, trailing off.
Shen Fanyun said, "I’m giving you a chance. Confess on your own."
"It’ll save you some unnecessary pain."
"What... what are you going to do?" Sudan Dan asked nervously, her expression growing more unnatural as she looked for a chance to escape.
"Malicious slander, spreading rumors, deliberately steering public opinion... you don’t really think you can get away with it completely unscathed, do you?" Zhan Feng then squatted down in front of Sudan Dan and patted her fleshy cheek. "You could go to jail for this, you know."
A bone-deep chill spread through Sudan Dan. She collapsed onto the floor but still tried to hold her ground. "I... I’m telling the truth! Lu Feiyan... Lu Feiyan really did..."
