Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Does the Dog Expect to Bite Its Owner?

Instead of staying here groveling like a dog!

That one sentence struck Lu Qi’s Achilles’ heel. She covered her face and glanced around. The familiar faces of the employees who once had to bow and scrape before her now made her feel as if she were sitting on pins and needles. Are their gazes mocking and ridiculing me? Are they starting to look down on me, their actual, powerful department manager? Su Xiyang! She’s the root cause of all this. If Su Xiyang hadn’t disrespected me, would I have been humiliated like this, time and again, in public?

"Su Xiyang, you’re really something. Just you wait!" Lu Qi gritted her teeth, spat out those furious words, and turned to leave.

"These days, even dogs hope to bite their master," Su Xiyang sneered. The venom in her words made the retreating Lu Qi feel a fresh wave of humiliation. The Su Xiyang of the past was always so polite whenever they met. But now, she was outright calling her, Lu Qi, a dog? What an utter disgrace!

Lu Qi spun around again, ready to warn Su Xiyang to watch her mouth.

"Mr. Chen, I’ll personally accompany you from here," Su Xiyang said, her face wreathed in smiles as she was already chatting and laughing with Chen Haiqing. She paid Lu Qi no mind at all. Such a blatant dismissal forced Lu Qi to swallow the torrent of words she had prepared.

"Go wait for me in the office," Su Xiyang reminded Shen Fanyun.

Shen Fanyun was already quite familiar with the way to Su Xiyang’s office.

Pushing open the door, he casually plopped down in Su Xiyang’s office chair. He had to admit, a woman’s space was truly different. Even the air carried a captivating scent. Body fragrance! Shen Fanyun knew this wasn’t from perfume, incense, or some air diffuser. This was Su Xiyang’s own natural scent.

"Minis—Minister." Just then, Lin Jia knocked on the door. After getting Shen Fanyun’s permission, she came in carrying a cup of coffee.

She first glanced shyly at Shen Fanyun before stepping forward and respectfully offering him the coffee.

"Thank you," Shen Fanyun nodded politely.

Lin Jia kept her head down, fiddling with the hair by her ear, not rushing to leave. Is she too warm, or just overdressed? Her cheeks are so red, like ripe, juicy peaches—plump and tender.

"Is there anything else?" Shen Fanyun asked, mimicking Su Xiyang’s managerial tone.

"Tha—thank you, Minister, for standing up for me earlier."

Standing up for you? When did I ever do that? Shen Fanyun wondered, but he quickly recalled slapping Lu Qi. Lin Jia must have misunderstood, thinking I was defending a junior employee like her.

"Here’s a treat for you," Lin Jia said with a small laugh. "I don’t have money for anything expensive, but I hope you like this. Please don’t mind!"

She hastily pulled a handful of candy from her pocket. Shen Fanyun took a closer look and saw it was White Rabbit Creamy Candy. Before he could react, Lin Jia bolted for the door as if escaping a disaster.

As luck would have it, Su Xiyang, returning after seeing off Chen Haiqing, bumped right into Lin Jia on her way out. Shen Fanyun watched with his own eyes as Lin Jia’s cute little head collided with Su Xiyang’s full and perky Twin Peaks.

A glorious sight! He even saw them jiggle slightly. Those were Su Xiyang’s peaks, swaying! If only my head had been the one to run into them... That little brat Lin Jia really lucked out!

"Ouch," Lin Jia cried out, instinctively touching her forehead. A second ago, she’d been wondering what she had run into; it was soft and surprisingly comfortable. The next second, she froze on the spot and began apologizing profusely. "I’m so sorry, President! Really sorry! I didn’t see you! I’m sorry, are you all right?"

She reached out to check the spot where she had bumped Su Xiyang but caught herself at the last second. So big... so soft... she chanted internally. She then glanced down at her own chest. Comparisons are just infuriating. I’m already in my early twenties, so why are mine still just tiny, budding lotuses? When will they ever grow into something magnificent like Su Xiyang’s?

"Lin Jia," Su Xiyang called out.

Only then did Lin Jia realize she had been daydreaming.

"Go back to your work. I’m fine," Su Xiyang said with a nod. As if granted a pardon, Lin Jia blushed and scurried away, vanishing in an instant.

Su Xiyang clasped her hands behind her back and sauntered over. Though Shen Fanyun had helped her several times, the sight of his devil-may-care face was enough to annoy her. No matter how she looked at him, she just found him irritating. And on top of that, he’s sitting in my office chair! Men are all smelly. I should probably just throw the chair out and buy a new one!

"Why was her face so abnormally red?" Su Xiyang sensed that the atmosphere was strange.

Shen Fanyun curled his lip. "How should I know?"

"Did you bully her? Or harass her?" Su Xiyang questioned.

The curve of Shen Fanyun’s lips became more pronounced. "What are you talking about? Am I that kind of person?"

"You are!" Su Xiyang said decisively.

Shen Fanyun was left speechless.

Su Xiyang stared at the White Rabbit Creamy Candy on the desk, quietly waiting for his explanation.

"She gave them to me," Shen Fanyun chuckled.

If I remember correctly, this is the first time Shen Fanyun and Lin Jia have even met. Could Lin Jia have been so captivated by his good looks that she took the initiative to cozy up to him, trying to get familiar and slowly develop something? That Shen Fanyun is a total scumbag! Lin Jia is just a recent college graduate with little social experience and poor judgment when it comes to people. She absolutely cannot fall into his clutches!

"I’m warning you, Lin Jia is a good girl. You can’t corrupt her."

"If you dare try anything funny, I’ll cut you!"

Su Xiyang was clearly not joking. Otherwise, Shen Fanyun wouldn’t have felt a sudden chill in a certain place, his heart skipping a beat in fear.

"I’m not interested in girls who aren’t... fully developed," Shen Fanyun muttered. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Su Xiyang immediately glared at him with murder in her eyes.

Fearing he’d taken the joke too far, Shen Fanyun dropped the subject.

Getting back to business, Su Xiyang brought some unexpected news. "Unfortunately, my grandfather suddenly sent my father on a business trip last night. He won’t be back for a while. I asked him about it, but he said it’s too complicated to explain over the phone, so you’ll have to wait."

A business trip?

Shen Fanyun felt resigned. The connection to Su Ming was crucial. He had wanted to ask Su Xiyang’s father for details, but by a strange twist of fate, they wouldn’t have a chance to meet for some time. Luckily, Shen Fanyun planned to be in Hangcheng City for a long while, so it wasn’t a major setback.

"All right, we’ll talk about it later." Shen Fanyun yielded the office chair to Su Xiyang and, making himself completely at home, sprawled out on the sofa.

Su Xiyang was exasperated. "Since there’s nothing else, shouldn’t you be leaving?"
