After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 110: I’m giving you face, you better appreciate it!
All of this felt like a dream. Neither Shen Fanyun nor Lin Meiqing could shake the sense of unreality. From their initial meeting to getting to know each other, and now to sharing a bed, only a few short days had passed. Wasn’t everything moving too fast?
Finally satisfied, Lin Meiqing rested her head on Shen Fanyun’s chest, her index finger idly tracing patterns on his skin. "I’m so tired."
After four back-to-back rounds, this was the first time Lin Meiqing had mentioned being tired. Shen Fanyun glanced at her; her eyelids were heavy, a clear sign of weariness. However, her complexion was surprisingly flushed, like a flower that had long thirsted for sweet dew and had finally been nourished.
"Are you still going to work today?" Shen Fanyun asked.
Lin Meiqing pouted. "Work my ass. I’m so weak right now I can hardly stand. How am I supposed to work?" she cooed, lifting her thigh and laying it across Shen Fanyun’s abdomen. "Massage it for me. And I’m so hungry."
It was early in the morning. Not only had she skipped breakfast, but the vigorous activity with Shen Fanyun had also drained the last of her energy.
"Are you very busy today?" Lin Meiqing asked. "If you are, you can go. I’m not planning to open my stall today; I’m going to take the day off and rest properly."
At noon, Shen Fanyun left Lin Meiqing’s apartment. She was visibly reluctant to see him go, and just before he left, she made sure to leave a hickey on his neck.
"There will be plenty of time for us," Shen Fanyun said with a meaningful smile.
Lin Meiqing reached out and pinched his cheek. "Plenty of time my ass, you little rascal!"
In the afternoon, Su Xiyang called. She had already found a new office space and expected to finalize the company’s new address today. However, there was some trouble back at her former company. The group of employees who wanted to follow her were facing serious resistance. It sounded like they would not be allowed to leave unless they signed a non-compete agreement. Signing such an agreement would prevent them from working in the same industry for the next three years. Su Xiyang was in the beauty and cosmetics business, which meant that if these employees signed, they would be barred from working for any cosmetics company for three years.
The purpose of a non-compete agreement is to prevent the risk of a company’s internal technology being leaked. It is a clause meant to protect the company. But what sort of unshareable, proprietary technology could a cosmetics company possibly have?
Furthermore, if they signed, the original company was legally obligated to continue paying their salaries until the three-year term expired. According to Su Xiyang, the company had no intention of paying. They wanted the employees to sign the agreement without offering any compensation. How was that different from a draconian clause? The root of this entire issue was Su Xiyang herself. Her break with the Su Family was a foregone conclusion, and from the Su Family’s perspective, they certainly did not want her to walk away with her entire original team so easily.
"No wonder Lin Jia was so gloomy last night and mentioned that the witch was back," Shen Fanyun muttered to himself. If he wasn’t mistaken, this witch had to be Lu Qi.
Lu Qi was someone Su Ziye had placed by Su Xiyang’s side. The first time Shen Fanyun met her, Lu Qi was already defying Su Xiyang—a mere manager was practically walking all over her boss. Now that Su Xiyang had left, it made sense for Lu Qi to return to the company. The woman was rumored to be ruthless, and Lin Jia, who had worked under her right after joining the company, knew just how terrifying she could be. As the saying goes, a name can be chosen poorly, but a nickname is always earned.
「Company Conference Hall」
Lu Qi had summoned all the employees who were preparing to resign, including Lin Jia. She slammed a contract down on the table.
"Sign this, and then you can all leave," Lu Qi said with her arms crossed, waiting.
Lin Jia was the first to look through the contract. It was, indeed, a non-compete agreement.
"Hmph, the company supported you for so many years, only to raise a pack of ungrateful wolves," Lu Qi sneered. "Since you all want to follow that bitch, then get the hell out of here. I can’t stand people who bite the hand that feeds them."
Lu Qi and Su Xiyang had a history of conflict, so naturally, she showed no kindness when speaking of her. The employees reviewed the document, hesitating to speak. Lu Qi, of course, knew exactly what they were thinking.
Finally, Lin Jia mustered his courage and was the first to refuse. "I won’t sign it."
"I am requesting a standard resignation. I’m not asking for a single cent of severance pay, but by the same token, I refuse to sign this non-compete agreement!"
Voluntarily resigning and waiving compensation would, from the company’s perspective, greatly alleviate any financial pressure. But for the company to suddenly produce a non-compete agreement with no mention of compensation—wasn’t that just an unreasonable, coercive clause? Who would sign that? The contract was obviously improper and illegal.
"I’m not here to negotiate with you. I’m here to give you an order!" Lu Qi declared, showing her usual domineering nature as she shot a meaningful, sidelong glance at Lin Jia. "Lin Jia, you go first. Set an example."
Is she trying to put me on the spot?
Lin Jia clenched his jaw and shook his head. "This is unreasonable. I refuse to sign."
Lu Qi shot to her feet, glaring ferociously at Lin Jia as her tone grew ice-cold. "What did you say? If you have the guts, say it again."
Standing close and accustomed to bullying people with a quick slap, Lu Qi swung her hand at Lin Jia’s face, intending to strike first.
SWISH!
She’d been annoyed with him for a long time. This slap was well-deserved!
"You!" Lin Jia was no longer the naive rookie he had been when he first joined. Seeing Lu Qi make her move, he reacted instantly, grabbing her wrist. "Manager Lu, you’re crossing the line!" he hissed through clenched teeth.
Lu Qi just sneered, her voice thick with warning. "In this company, I’m the manager. You dare lay a hand on me? Are you planning on not leaving today?"
Just then, Shen Fanyun pushed the door open and walked in.
Lin Jia’s face lit up. "Director!" he called out, his voice bright with surprise and relief.
"Quite lively in here," Shen Fanyun said, nodding at Lin Jia before his eyes flickered toward Lu Qi. Lu Qi was visibly afraid of Shen Fanyun; after all, he had slapped her on more than one occasion.
"What are you doing here?" Lu Qi challenged. "This is a private company meeting room. What right does an outsider like you have to barge in?"
Shen Fanyun smiled. "I’m the director of the Security Department. Since when did I become an outsider? I’m here for the same reason they are—to resign."
"Manager Lu," he continued, "if you would be so kind as to sign my papers."
Su Xiyang had drafted an employment contract for him back then, so technically speaking, he was still an employee, even if he worked sporadically, coming and going as he pleased.
"I won’t sign," Lu Qi stated defiantly.
Shen Fanyun’s smile remained, and he subconsciously flexed his wrist. "You should know that when I speak to you politely, it’s a form of protection for you. Of course, if you insist on making trouble, I won’t humor you."
Lu Qi was speechless.
