Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Woman, Don’t Flatter Yourself Too Much!

Shen Fanyun stood with his hands behind his back, a smile on his face as he sized up Wang Lan, whom he hadn’t seen in over a decade. The years had left their marks on her face, but Wang Lan was a wealthy woman now, with plenty of money to touch it up with cosmetics. She was barely passable.

"Auntie Wang, we haven’t seen each other in years. Isn’t it a bit inappropriate to give me such a hard time the moment we meet? Besides, I don’t recall offending you!" Shen Fanyun’s expression was indifferent, showing neither pleasure nor anger.

Wang Lan snorted and lowered her voice. "Regardless, you stay away from Qiuchan. She’s about to get married, and your relentless pestering is wrong by every measure of reason and decency!"

Pestering? Relentless pestering?

Shen Fanyun thought back. Since returning to Hangcheng City, aside from that one chance encounter with Li Qiuchan at the office building, this was only their second meeting. They hadn’t communicated or met privately in the interim.

Where did this "relentless pestering" even come from?

"You think you can compare to my brother-in-law?" a young man said, leaning sideways against his chair. He frowned, putting on an air of arrogant authority. "If you know what’s good for you, disappear from my sister’s world completely. Do that, and I might at least respect you as a man! I don’t want to hurt your pride, Shen, so if you understand what I’m saying, then scram! Frankly, you can’thing but coast through life. How could he possibly have the right to compare himself to you, sir?t even compare to one of my brother-in-law’s fingers. Where do you get the confidence to hound my sister like this?"

Shen Fanyun recognized him. It was Li Tianyi, Li Qiuchan’s younger brother.

Back in the day, the little guy was always trailing behind me, either begging for snacks or asking me to play with him. In the blink of an eye, he’s grown up this much? I recall Li Tianyi being a very gentle and well-mannered boy. How did he end up with an attitude like this?

"Is there some kind of misunderstanding?" Shen Fanyun tilted his head and asked Li Qiuchan, who was standing beside him.

Li Qiuchan remained silent. Instead, a group of elders started chattering, first berating Shen Fanyun and then following up with various warnings and threats.

Wang Lan was the most belligerent of them all, constantly threatening to show Shen Fanyun what she was capable of. She was now someone he supposedly couldn’t afford to provoke!

"It seems latching onto the Han Family has given you a lot of confidence," Shen Fanyun said, a brilliant white smile on his face. "Anyone who didn’t know better might think you’re some kind of world-shaking, formidable character, Auntie Wang."

He sounded as if he were merely sighing with emotion, but his words made Wang Lan’s face flush an uneven red with embarrassment. How could she not understand? He was mocking her for borrowing someone else’s power to act mighty! Without the Han Family backing her, what was she, Wang Lan, even worth?

"You!" Wang Lan bared her teeth, fuming.

Li Qiuchan felt helpless. Just as she’d feared, the situation was spiraling out of control. Shen Fanyun had appeared out of nowhere and was now stirring up trouble, making the atmosphere tense. And now, even her own mother, Wang Lan, was absolutely furious.

"Can you just stop making trouble?" Li Qiuchan mustered her courage and pleaded with Shen Fanyun to quit while he was ahead. But even as she tried to negotiate, her voice was filled with an arrogant pride.

"Acting like this will only make me despise you more!" Li Qiuchan declared, playing what she thought was her trump card.

Shen Fanyun was taken aback. "Why would I need you to respect me?"

It was utterly absurd. In this vast world, among the endless sea of people, many meet only once in their lifetime. Even if he had known Li Qiuchan for years, they were ultimately from two different worlds. Did he, Shen Fanyun, have nothing better to do than to strive for her admiration and approval?

Li Qiuchan was speechless.

"Are you, perhaps, being a little conceited?" Shen Fanyun asked again.

That remark made Li Qiuchan’s brow furrow deeply. What is that supposed to mean? Is he talking back to me? He clearly likes me; his obsession with me is undeniable. But now he’s confronting me with such an offensive attitude? Has he lost his mind from the rejection? Isn’t he afraid I’ll get angry and never give him the time of day again? That must be it. He’s just lashing out because his advances were rejected. He spoke impulsively and said something he shouldn’t have!

"Shen Fanyun, leave for now. I don’t want to see you." Li Qiuchan beckoned the manager over, instructing him to escort Shen Fanyun away immediately.

However, the manager stood rooted to the spot, motionless, as if he hadn’t heard her. Wang Lan was already annoyed by the manager’s earlier negligence. Now her daughter was giving a direct order, and this guy was still putting on such a cocky act?

"What kind of manager are you?" Wang Lan snapped, exasperated. "Do you have any idea who my daughter is? If you offend her, you won’t be able to bear the consequences."

She could have tried negotiating calmly, but instead, she chose to throw her daughter’s status around.

The manager nonchalantly lifted his gaze. "I know. Just a woman marrying into a rich family, right? What’s so great about that? Without that wealthy family backing you, would you dare to be so arrogant? Riding on someone else’s coattails!"

Wang Lan was speechless.

Li Qiuchan was speechless.

No one could have imagined that a mere hotel manager would speak so rudely, jumping out to pointedly accuse the mother and daughter of riding on someone else’s coattails.

"How dare you!" Wang Lan was so angry her head began to spin. "Get your boss! I want to see your boss! I’m going to file a complaint against you!"

The manager suddenly gave Wang Lan a look one might reserve for an idiot and didn’t move an inch.

"I came down here specifically to handle your complaint personally," Shen Fanyun said. "However, from what you’ve all been saying, it seems there might be some misunderstanding."

He then turned to Li Qiuchan. "Allow me to add something. Though you and I had a past, don’t think for a second that I still harbor any illusions—or should I say, an obsession—about you."

"Don’t flatter yourself. For one, I don’t lack for female companionship. And for another..." Shen Fanyun glanced at Li Qiuchan’s brother, Li Tianyi. "Is Han Feng really that impressive? Why would I need to compare myself to someone like him? Do I look like I have that much free time?" He tilted his head and asked the manager beside him.

The manager folded his hands respectfully below his waist. "He’s just a rich heir who does nothing but coast through life. How could he possibly have the right to compare himself to you, sir?"

Further words were pointless. Shen Fanyun turned to leave, but not before instructing the manager, "Send them a bottle of Romankangdi. Consider it... a token of my goodwill."

"Yes, Boss!"

Boss?

In an instant, Wang Lan’s and Li Qiuchan’s eyes went wide. The rest of the elders were equally stunned. That tone was clearly not the respectful address one used for a guest. Could it be...

The manager looked back at the stunned group and pointed a thumb toward the ceiling. "You guessed right. He’s the owner of our Yunxiao Hotel."

Shen Junhuan founded the Yunxiao Hotel for Shen Fanyun in the first place, so it was only natural to call him Boss. After all, the ’Yun’ in Yunxiao comes from his name.

"Th-that’s impossible!" Wang Lan’s face went ashen. This was a super-luxury hotel. Shen Fanyun was the owner?
